Well, started watching the thunder storms roll in around 10 pm last night after the weatherman said that Southeast CT. was not going to get any storms. Again they were so wrong!
The first run came in at 1 am for our ladder to respond mutual aid to our neighboring town, right after we started out our engine company was dispatched to respond to the next town over too.
At one point the rain was falling so hard I couldn't see the road while driving, luckily it was early in the moring and there wasn't much traffic but it's still a little tricky not being able to see the road going to a call.
After we arrived at the location which turned out to be a malfunction alarm system from the storm we became available and Fire Alarm assigned us to another run in town.
Anyway, to make a long story short one run for our ladder company turned into five runs and the rest of our department was out all night as well.
Finally returned to quarters a little before six am so, no reason to go back to bed.
Made plenty of coffee for the brothers and sat down to relax. I'll try to get some sleep when I get home but, having my three children greet me when I get home there'll be no time to sleep.

Glad you are all safe- those were some nasty storms in the North East last night!

Yikes! I'm just so glad you guys are out there. The lightening was so bad here that I moved my DD and myself off of the top floor (we have a lot of trees) for about an hour and watched the display from the living room windows. The local fire department is very close to our house, but I heard very few sirens - hopefully that means everyone had a good and safe night.

What a night, huh? We are in SE MA and we had two storm systems move through - one around 10:30 and then the other around 2:30 a.m. It was that loooooong rumbling thunder that never seemed to end - and very bright lightning! Someone must have gotten it real bad around here as we could hear it LOUD, but off in the distance. Both kids ended up in bed with me and that's ok as they made ME feel better! :)

I need to have a talk with Mother Nature. I can't handle these storms coming through when I'm getting ready for bed. The first one seemed to last forever, so I was up much later than I should have been. The second one must have been far enough south that it missed us because I didn't hear that one.

Did anyone see the fire in Providence harbor? That looked awful. I saw the story as soon as it hit the news at 10:30 and it looked like it was going to be a huge disaster. Thankfully there were no injuries!! And it didn't spread to any of the other tankers in the area. They had been concerned about the LNG tanker that was docked nearby.

I work around the block from the harbor and we can still smell the smoke.

I can imagine. It must smell awful.
