Wow, I need to vent. Hoping you guys can make me laugh as I'm usually in stitches when I read a lot of the threads on here.

So, on Tuesday, I found out that I'm being laid off next week. It wasn't totally unexpected, but it still sucks. Thank God, Bert's job is secure and we can live off his salary. I'm sad as I really love my job, but things happen for a reason so I'll move on to something new eventually,

Today, I get a phone call from my mom telling me that she has breast cancer. It appears to be early stage, and shouldn't be a huge issue, (Well as not huge of an issues as cancer can be.) But, I'm just blown out of the water by tthis one. My mom is only 47. We're 8 hours apart so I can't be there and it's just killing me.

So.. the laughter that I hope is coming will be very much welcomed. :)

Nothing funny to add...but just a thought.

Since your gonna have a little time off soon, have you thought of driving or flying to spend some time with your Mom?

Sorry to hear about all of your really bad news.....

I don't have anything funny, but just a great big :hug:

I'm so very sorry. That totally sucks!

Which reminds me of a limerick I know.....There once was a man from Nantucket....

I'm trying :flower3:
Seriously...we're here for you.

I'm sorry!
My mom is a breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with stage III ILC in March of 2008. She had surgery, chemo, and radiation, and finished her treatments in Feb. of 2009. She is fine now. Please let me know if you have any questions (I researched it from every possible direction), or feel free to join the amazing ladies on the Community Board "Breast Cancer Survivors" thread. I post over there on occasion, though not as often as I did when my mom was in treatment. They are a lovely group and have so much knowledge!

Hang in there!!!

Just think of your lay off as a blessing in disguise. Now you'll be free to travel to be with her. It's tough wanting to be at home to take care of things, and being at your mom's and taking care of things. But balance your time, and you'll be able to be there for every one.

So sorry... when it rains it pours huh? My mom was diagnosed with very severe stage 3 Breast Cancer in 1999(lost her breast and lymph nodes). She is a survivor and doing very well. Your Mom will be ok too. Stay strong for her and try to stay positive.:thumbsup2

Mike, that's really the only positive thing I've come up with about the timing of my layoff. It's only about an 8 hour drive down to Kansas City where my Mom is at so I'll be down there as much as possible to help her.

I don't have anything funny, but just a great big :hug:

Thank you! Hugs are always appreciated.

Rosie, it worked, you got me to laugh! Thank you! :)

Thank you so much! I'll definitely let you know if I have questions, etc. I'm trying to avoid doing too much research right now as is my mom as we just don't have enough information and the crap I've read just freaks me out more.

Sandra, I totally agree! :) Thanks!

It's so true, and it's pouring here right now. I am thankful that my mom appears to have found this early, she's young and quite the fighter. She'll pull through this.

To all of you: I'm a newbie here and I just wanted to thank all of you for your support, etc. You're an awesome group, thank you soooooooo much!

I'll be sending good vibes and prayers for you both and if you dont want them send them back i can use them:hug:

Wow, I'm so sorry. I don't have any jokes but lots of these . Spend as much time with your Mom as you can to help her through it. It will help her and it will actually be good for you too to be involved in her treatment and care.

Hey, you may be jobless, but at least you're still hot! :thumbsup2

I'm a natural blonde.
Laughing yet?

Hope stuff gets better soon.

I am so sorry to hear all of this, and you must be feeling swamped.

You sound close to your Mom, so she will certainly gain strength from your support:lovestruc

Jaysus, that's not exactly good news on any front.

We did not have a serious illness, however my wife was out of work at the time "our little boy" (under two at the time) desperately needed us. We were flat broke and poor, but that little guy was safe, warm, and loved.

We wouldn't trade that tough economic time for anything in the world.

I'm thinking you are out of work for a very good reason.

Stay strong.

Thanks again everyone for your support and a few laughs too!

My mom got some really good news from the surgeon yesterday. Her exact words were, wow, if you have to have cancer your scenario is ideal. She's only going to need a lumpectomy (sp?) and then radiation. She's been told she's a good candidate for a type of radiation that is done over 5 days rather than the traditional multi week treatment and it only targets the cancerous areas. I'm so thankful for this! Now just a visit with the oncologist and hopefully her/his story matches! :cool1:

:thumbsup2 That sounds like some pretty good news...

My minister (who is also my boss) was just diagnosed with very early stage prostate cancer... It was a tiny spot and he had surgery at the beginning of the month. He is recovering from surgery now but his surgeon actually used the words "totally cured" when the pathology report came back! When they catch it early enough - they can do amazing stuff!

 for you and :flower3: for mom!

Glad you are suriving the week and things are looking better. hang in there.

And if you still need a laugh, one of the other threads has a great picture of Mike wearing his prom (dates?) finest outfit. It is sure to cure any rainy day blues. I believe it is the "New Park in Orlando" thread. Check it out and save it as your computer backdrop for a daily smile!

It is really amazing what they can do. It sounds like my mom's total time from surgery to radiation will only be 2 weeks. The radiation treatment they want to use is only a 5 day treatment twice a day. I'm very hopeful that she can do that instead of the drawn out treatments that I've heard about.

You know this all in all was a great week. Yes, it had it's down points, (my job ending) but I got great news about my mom and booked the second part of your Disney trip for christmas/new year's and got exactly what I wanted :woohoo:.. well there is still a wait list for a tree house villa.. but still I can't complain!

Now, that picture... all I can say is WOW! :rotfl:

I knew all those good vibes would work. I love the Secret.

Those good vibes worked very well, thank you so much!
