What a difference a phone call makes - Vent

If you are going to cancel your timeshare purchase on the basis of one phone call then do yourself and all of us a favor and cancel your membership now before it is too late.

Don't you think that's a little harsh? If I bought 6 days prior and called on the day of my 11 month window and couldn't get what I was looking for I would decidedly have some buyers remorse.

Makes me worry about trying to book a THV for Feb vaca.

...Makes me worry about trying to book a THV for Feb vaca.

This February? Good luck. But don't count on it.

But if you are talking about Feb 2012 and booking in March 2011, you should have a shot at it. February is not Christmas Eve.

Although less then thrilled with my guide, when we bought DVC, he did say when I made my 1st ressie to call him if I needed help. I tried for a 2 bedroom at BLT for beginning of Dec (10 months out) and was told by MS there was nothing at BLT, I called my guide and about 1/2 hour later I had a ressie. I would not call him again for a ressie but that was part of his sales pitch that he could book my 1st stay as an owner and I took him up on it.

I have found that in the last year and half we have called MS and each CM was different. Some were very friendly and helpful and almost bent over backwards to get us anything and everything we could want, others gave us the polite minimum service, and one was obvious new and worried we wouldn't understand her Japanese accent. One time we did get an answer that nothing was available but when we queried the CM it turned out that the CM could not make the exact reservation we asked for as one night was not available. Like you were able to shorten the reservation and wait list for the extra night. Luckily the wait list came through a few days later. But if we had not asked we wouldn't have gotten the reservation at all. The CM was nice just didn't go the extra step until we asked.

I glad it worked out for you.

yeah i meant next Feb. Good to know it is hopeful. Also good to know it is unlikely I'll ever be down here for Christmas Eve.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Looking back on the first call I should have maybe been more prepared and I will know better for next time.

I edited the original post to remove personal information that could identify when we were not home, I was not thinking about this being a open public site when I originally posted. Not sure what caused the ** though!

I thought maybe you opted not to buy a vowel (ala Wheel of Fortune).

The ** seems to be a bug in the boards. It is rampant on the photography board and a couple of others.

i'm glad you was able to get in. however, did you wait list
for the other?

also the suggestion to seek the member satisfaction might be
able to help you. they are excellent @ problem solving.

fyi, when were new members, we had a similar problem. [ the
young lady suggested we try the next year. ] it was @
this junction i took over & we were successful.

as for "do us all a favor", was intrusive & does not speak
for all owners @ blt. it made me wonder where it is coming from.
is the person a blt owner, or an owner @ another resort?
[ trying to figure out how they would be effected by your
request]. i know i got more negative responses then answers
when i sought input here. [ my final conclusion was there are
many non-dvc timeshares people & dvc sales people here,
using manipulation for their best interests.]. i hope you are
not discouraged.

as for your request, i think your guide dropped the ball especially
since this was your first time & they know how busy this time
is. nor do i think your original request was something outside
reasonable expectation.

we were there from dec. 18th, to the new years! blt is a wonderful
resort, & there no better view on property. our baby girl [ though
she just turn 14 ], adored the castle as her nightlight. another
evening , scrooge mcduck + daisy , dressed in christmas outfits-
were posing for pictures in front of the tree. so we came down
in our pj's. it is little things that made our vacation special.

Since people usually try to just get others to understand the bare bones, and not view DVC through rose-colored glasses, I doubt that they are DVC salespeople on here...

The OP didn't call their guide; they called MS. The guide didn't drop anything!

I would find it interesting if there were actual DVC guides lurking here on the board and trying to post as if they weren't.

Well... many of the Guides also own DVC, and if they ever had extra points they wanted to rent, I would think this is where they would come. Our original Guide even mentioned that she had once been active on the Disboards (I had mentioned to her that we obtained a lot of our info about DVC here). I know if I was a Guide, I certainly wouldn't bring up my job on the boards. If a Guide did disclose that info, I think they would soon be inundated with PMs and requests!

That said, I don't think Disney would be encouraging Guides to come on and post in an effort to lead folks one direction or another. To the contrary, I would think Disney would prefer to let conversations go where they will, as a way to judge public reaction to their marketing efforts and policy decisions. It's like a great little FREE focus group. They get to read all of our opinions and not pay a cent for them. Why risk messing that up by planting posts?!

dear op, hope it worked out. :flower3:

as for the others, fair enough. i was here long before we purchased
blt. in this section, the info. has been valuable. it has help me figured out
some of the dynamics that we need to work with. however,

i have noticed some of the same intrusive comments here, repeated
over & over. other comments are simply manipulation. based on my
face to face exchanges, & the lack of dvc response, i do think
some workers @ the dvc are double dipping while others are taking
advantages by using "perks" for their own family & friends. and
it seems some are using the boards to make connections especially
when they make intrusive remarks- as if "they" were being effected.

our first trip was wonderful but there were some shocking things
i never seen before @ any disney resort. even the shuffle board pucks
had damages. blt has major security issues. normally the first floor
would be desirable, but not here. the "traffic" makes it uncomfortable
after dark.

as for us, first timers, we could not rely on the dvc guides/supervisors,
managers for any help. [ i had to find another support person to
get what we paid for.] recently someone posted how wonderful their
guide was. it was interesting, since we had the same guide. everything
the poster claimed, was the exact opposite for us. what is the opposite
of "wonderful"? also i have made many , many calls to the dvc office.
every person admitted they own dvc. comparing what they are allow
to get with- is exactly why i think they are taking unfair advantages.

* the "rci" exchanges,
should be junked by my observations. we [owners] are getting nothing
from them. [ those posting, talked about hassles.] i have yet to
read any report of something worth doing. the only thing i seen here,
is how everyone are tying to trade in, for dvc rooms. if they closed
it down, then there be more rooms for owners to switch @ 7mos.? +
more rooms for last minute trips? [ & i think "they are" the faster group
because of resales.].

* the disney files are promoting rci in every issue. something good "sells"
itself. i haven't read any happy stories from them.

#1 rationalization i seen. is trying to make owners feel entitled. really?
we know what we paid for. we know what the perks of being blt owners
are. getting what one paid for isn't an entitlement. and it worked! yes,
it is understood, those "trading in" are after. well, if you wanted the
same , then you should pay the costs. just like us.

I have had similar experience. I heard a few month back that they were bringing over people from Japan because DVC is now promoting in Tokyo Disney,so I am really careful if I get someone with an "accent" when I call as I to hate to call five times. It amazes me the way they work with you to come up with answers to "getting what you want". We needed an extra night back at Christmas time, and I went on a waiting list for a room, and was willing to get any room anywhere, and I had a room withing about three hours, and later they even got me in my original resort. Be patient and they will always help you!

Just a note here that the DVC Guides themselves are not allowed to post here on the DIS.

However, we do have a Cast Member Board where other Disney CM's are allowed to post - it is a closed board and private so only those CM's are there posting. :)

I like your response to the OP. I was new once too, and by posting and asking questions here I learned a lot. There is a huge learning curve to DVC and I was frustrated in the beginning as well. Most CMs will give their all to try and help. If you get one who seems indifferent just call back. They are not miracle-workers but a good one will give you options you had not necessarily thought of.

Didn't realize either of those; is the first a Disboard rule? I've always assumed DVD had strict rules about guides posting, but wasn't aware that this site also had them...

It comes down to you getting used to dealing with MS and the person you are dealing with.

Once you become more familiar with what you want or are looking for when you call to book a rezzie, you automatically start thinking of your options and alternatives.

It is very helpful when the CM does this for you and offers helpful suggestions of course. That is the difference between a "good" and "bad" or better words to use, "experienced and caring" versus "unenthusiatic" CM.

I can always tell when my wife will have a good experience talking to MS about bookings because she ends up going into a rant about every subject other than what she is calling about! LOL! The baby....how crazy we are....etc. The good ones always seem to be able to multitask and do what they are doing while BSing a little at the same time - but in the same respect not procrastinating or delaying to the point where you miss out on what you want.

Don't give up just yet. I am sure in your DVC life, you will have a little of each kind. Be strong and just learn the ways of the force, my young apprentice. :darth:
