What a CM told me about room only rates...

I'm waiting like many of the rest of you for a room only code--the packages just don't help us. I have a reservation for WL with the AAA rate, but, I'm sorry, I just cannot justify over $200 (inc. tax) a night for a smallish hotel room. SO, I've got reservations at Marriott's Grande Vista (1BR Deluxe villa for $123/nt.) and I was going to cancel my WL ressie today. I explained why to the CM and, initally, she said,"Oh, no! I would hold the reservation. I'm sure room only codes will come." Then, she went over all the packages with me and agreed that they wouldn't do well for us. (BUT, FYI, if you already bought your tickets, they'll let you "cancel" them and get refunded so you can then book the package. Also, if you're arriving late, they can arrange it so the passes won't kick in until the next day.) Anyway, then she started saying,"Well, we were told that there're going to be very FEW room only codes in the future. We will have them out soon for FL residents and AP holders", but other than that, there's nothing she sees coming up. DOn't know why she got my hopes up! Anyway, I decided to wait another month to cancel (we're going in late Jan. - early Feb.). Just thought I'd pass on the info...

Once they started FTP I got the feeling that room only codes would be few and far between..

I had noticed special codes where starting to be fewer and harder to get last year. Thats why I bought DVC I then can go for a long week-end if rates become avl..but still know with my points I can make my ressies for longer trips any time we deside to go.::yes::

This is definately NOT what I was wanting to hear!! I too, am waiting for those darn codes to come out. We are also booked (with a AAA) discount for the 2nd week of Feb, still way over $100 per night. Last Feb we got a rate of $119/night plus tax. I was hoping for something along that line again for this next trip. DH and I were just talking this AM about the possiblility of no codes for our time frame. Don't know what we would do. We will definately try to stay on site somewhere, but I hate to wait too long to make new ressies cause all the rooms may be booked for my time frame!! Thanks for the info!!

So, am I to understand that even if we have purchased our passes, we can "cancel" them to book the package? If this is true, then I need to call and see about getting booked for the Dream Maker package. Hmmm.......

I still really wish that we would get a room code though.

I asked a CM about this a week or so ago and she said, "Oh! Our people are working on all sorts of discounts right now and they should be out soon." This could be interpreted a lot of ways.

I decided to cancel my reservation at POR in case having a reservation in the system might prevent me from getting the e-mail offers or postcards. Since I have gotten 2-3 of each in the past year, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'd much rather stay in a deluxe, obviously, but if there are no codes, then I'll be perfectly happy at POR or CSR.

:D

Hi, Miche61,
YES! She had a phone number to call to get your PHPs cancelled and then you could book a package to your full advantage. Actually, the CM was reading from some directive she had, saying,"If a guest has already bought their tickets, suggest they cancel..."
Good luck!

Hi, PigletFan!
Wow, now I'm optimistic again! I mean, we know about the Winter Dream Package, we know about the Kids Play 'n' Stay Free package, so what would the "other" discounts be? Let's all send some pixie dust their way!!!

Thank you for your post. I haven't been able to get any info from the CM's about AP codes-at least it's a little promising for my situation. I bet they will start phasing out the room only codes, but you can't tell me that the Visa package is bringing in the droves of people! They'll have to do something to get the tourists in early 2004. Even Universal is advertising heavily on our Michigan stations.

I made a ressie 6 months in advance for BC in 2002, and a month before our trip I got my first ever postcard! It was for value and moderates, but I called anyway and they let me apply it to my deluxe. I saved another $100 on top of the huge code discount.

So I don't see that having a standing ressie affects postcards! I hope you get one, and I hope I get another one, too!
