Holy cow. I was just pricing cruises for the Thanksgiving Holiday in 2006. The price for RCCL's new Freedom of the Seas, for a balcony room is $4,978 for 4 and the Magic for the same week is $7997.

That is a 3K difference. :faint:

I have an upcoming RCCI cruise for the first time this month and then Disney again in November. I can't wait to see the difference. :flower:

The price for a holiday cruise definitely jumps up there. Price one the week after & before and you will see a big difference. If you have young kids, I think that DCL will top anyone else. We are booked for our third DCL cruise and am debating our fourth this weekend. :)

I priced both the week after and got $5200 for the Magic and $3200 for the Freedom of the Seas.

There is a huge difference most of the time. I love DCL that is why we pay more to cruise with them.

But Disney's staterooms are bigger. You can get a cat 6 statroom on DCL that are 268 sq ft but the lowest balcony on RCCL is only 173 sq ft which would be 25% less room. I went and compared a RCCl junior suite (277 sq ft) with a DCL cat 6 (268 sq ft) for the Thanksgiving 2006 for 2 adults. RCCL=4289 DCL=4698. It's still a savings, but not as much when you comapre like cabins.

We had a "lower end" D2 balcony on Explorer and it was just about the same size as our Cat 6 on Disney...not sure if the Disney dimensions include the balcony and the RCCL ones do not (I did see this comparison on an early thread and remember it only being a 5' or so difference, not much when you consider the price). They did not have the split bathrooms but I don't have a preference for those anyway (would rather save money LOL). We had a balcony room and inside room across the hall for $100 more than just a Cat 10 on DCL, Thanksgiving of last year (actually had DCL booked but switched when more family members wanted to cruise and couldn't justify the extra $$). Everyone's experience will differ but our service and food were just as good on RCCL (we never received towel animals on DCL, didn't even know about them because we went before finding these boards so didn't know what we were missing but did have them on RCCL so I believe they are pretty much a standard now throughout the industry). The best service and food I've every had with a cruise line is Princess but DS 14 prefers RCCL over them all. HTH
