What’s your grocery bill nowadays?

I would suggest stocking up on food it’s only going to get worse.

that's a great practice if someone is in the financial place to do it. if a grocery budget is already tight it's harder to add more items to your list in an effort to save down the line. we can do this but i look at someone like my oldest kiddo whose household budget already took a major hit when rent was increased by 22% this year, gas prices have skyrocketed and just the basics for groceries are costing so much more. stocking up isn't an option so i've taken to watching the ads, eyeballing unadvertised lost leaders sales and such and stocking up on the non perishable items she regularly uses. i stock up big time and before she hits the traditional grocery store she shops at our house (currently working her way through about 20 bottles of juice i caught on sale a few months ago for less than half the best sale price she could get it for now).

I honestly don’t know how much I spend anymore. I haven’t really gone “real” grocery shopping in awhile. I will pick up a few things here and there instead.

I was shocked the other day that a box of graham crackers at Walmart was well over $4. I was expecting under $3.

The middle class especially on the lower end is going to get crushed. Many people won’t be able to heat their homes or buy food. It’s a very scary situation.

I stock up mostly on canned goods and emergency supplies. I want to be prepared for anything.

Agreed - things would have to go waaay further south than even 2009 Great Recession before I ever cut the wine. :drinking1 Although we did downgrade to cheaper table wine vs better bottles.
I’d cut out a lot of things before wine. 2009 we had deflation this is much worse.

I'd say our bill is up about 15-20%. We keep a higher budget for just two of us....$1,000 a month, which includes all toiletries, dog food....and wine. Not giving up my weekend wine. Whatever is left goes to our dog spending fund...for vet bills, meds, etc.

Prices are getting a bit nuts though, especially for things like airfare. I know credit card balances are up big time, but still, I'm not sure how so many people are able to afford travel right now. Maybe it's the last hurrah before a recession.

Like everyone else, we are spending more each week for a household of 2 adults. As far as Walmart and Aldi? My daughter did a comparison between the 2 with buying the same things. Walmart only came up a little bit more than Aldi's, in our area. I think the area you live in dictates the prices. She also compared those 2 stores to our local family owned grocery and the family owned one was significantly more expensive (can't remember exact numbers, but at least by $20 or more).

As far as price gouging? I just read an email written by a trucker. He said that to fill up his semi it costs over 1,100 !!!! They have to fill up at least once a day, sometimes twice. He said that trucking companies are getting out of the business due to the high gas/diesel prices. The trucks transport everything we need so this is not good news for comsumers. We Need, no must, get the gas/diesel prices lowered ASAP. I hope this happens soon.

Just saw many items double in price….

Interesting how that happens with inflation below 10%…..

We shall just see all those record profits reports over the next year, while we pay the bills…

Well, record profits for the Oil drillers, and certainly the refineries.

As for a lot of other industries, I'd expect their profit margins to continue to be squeezed. And that's why the markets are "repricing" said companies stock values. I expect that to continue as well.

I read today that Kraft Heinz is going to be raising prices twice this summer...from Maxwell house coffee, the miracle whip, deli meat and Classico pasta sauce. If not for bad news.....there would be no news these days it seems.

We can absorb some of the higher prices and there are still some things I just refuse to buy. I feel so bad for my kids. I have a few out on their own and this is a major hit for them.

another factor will be increased property taxes for many homeowners-our area just received our newest assessed valuation notices. 35% increase in assessed value on our place which will result in a noticeable increase in taxes come 2023 (not even considering any increased taxes or new levies that get implemented by then). i'll still count myself as lucky on this though-my home's assessed value is 275% higher than the one we sold in california in '06 but we still pay less than 50% of the property taxes we were paying there as far back as 1999.

None of it’s surprising after 50 years of debt fueled spending. It’s probably to late to put the genie back in the bottle. Hopefully we don’t become Argentina.

I've been patting myself on the back about not eating beef/pork and how we've avoided those high prices... until today. Five lbs of ground turkey at Sams Club jumped from $14.48 to $19.48. I've been noticing prices increasing, but a $5 jump on one item really stopped me in my tracks. Thank heavens I've been buying extra and freezing it.

I expect a lot of families will start living together like they do in third world countries.

I do find myself worrying if the people on WIC etc are being given extra money,

That is not how WIC works. They are given a list of what they can get. For example, 4 cans of formula, 2 gallons of whole milk, etc. There are no dollar amounts, just the actual product that they can get. Food stamps are another issue. But they won't cut the amount of formula or milk that they are allowed. WIC recipients are not affected by inflation in that way.

Ours has definitely increased. At Walmart, a bakery loaf of Italian bread was a 1.00, then $1.10 on Monday, today 1.24! Their brand creamer doubled. $3 more for a deli pizza. Eggs went up 2.50 for a 36 pack.

We are probably about 800-1000 for 2 adults, 1 child.

We have stopped eating out/delivery except on occasion and I buy what I need for the week, not necessarily wants.

And good grief - I always run low on TP, paper towels, Tide, and Cascade at the same time. That is a depressing amount 😕

We are up 40-50%... its crazy... Gas is double. Oil for home heating is double.
This winter is going to be very concerning for those of you that live in cold climates. I’ve also read to expect brown outs this Summer across the Midwest and west. If that the case I’d be hesitant to stock up on food in the freezer unless you have a generator.
I expect gas to be 6.00 a gallon within the next month we’re already at 5.60.

More than it used to be -- I can't really be specific.
I feel for people who were already living close to the bone before all this inflation hit.
