What’s going on in front of MK

Just finished a stay at the Contemporary, and couldn’t help but notice a lot of dirt being moved in front of the MK, to the left of Space Mountain, outside the railroad tracks (between Space Mountain and the front entrance to MK).

Does anyone know what’s going on?

That’s connected to Tron construction. It is the expansion of the retention pond.

The placement seems odd to be for Tron (which as I understand it is going to be on the opposite side of Space Mountain), and cutting that much into the side of the berm supporting the railroad. But whatever.

It's because the Tron site displaces a water retention canal. So they need to replace that capacity elsewhere as near as they can. So the option the went for is that front corner of the park. Other options nearby are more like to interfere with future expansions.
