Still in “the bubble” so the closest I’m to cooking is combining granola/yogurt or eating a croissant for breakfast and our early evening cocktail + apps. Thankful for our room fridge!
Glad I opted to stay at Boardwalk again. The accessibility of most parks and peacefulness of staying garden side just does it for me.
Well, the Disney slowdown is my pocketbook’s good luck; been running the
AP seasonal discounts for all they are worth.
Ate at Ale and Compass for lunch one day for the second time in all the years I’ve been here. Has clam casino and a romaine salad while my companion had a sky high cheese burger. Seems I ordered the right meal for me as did she. The clams were a bit overcooked but the bacon and veggies helped mask it. Denisa really loved her burger and wished there was more pickled avocado. She had a Coke while I opted for a club soda and lime.
Another day, after cocktails and appetizers at
Geo 82, we ohhed and ahhed over the fireworks and then walked over to Cake Bake for dinner. We shared an arugula salad (it was huge and we left with some as takeout) and then each went our own way: a chicken salad sandwich on Pullman bread for her and chicken gumbo for me. The gumbo impressed me; very nicely seasoned. Couldn’t help but split a dessert which again gave us leftovers. Had a seasonal special: lemon and blueberry cake. Lovely combo of flavors with the lemon represented by a curd filling and the berries baked in the batter. Think I’d of preferred the berries as part of the cake filling but as usual the vanilla buttercream icing “paved” the way.
The last day of the AP discount was spent at Tiffins. Denisa opted for an off menu salad to start while I had the ube cauliflower soup with fried garlic and mushrooms; could have eaten bowls of the stuff! Then came the hard choice- what entree to choose. Had made up my mind to order either of the curry offerings (fish or plant based) when we began chatting with the table next to us; the woman proclaimed Tiffins scallops superior to Flying Fish so I couldn’t resist ordering the surf and turf. The beef tenderloin was perfectly tender with a lovely cola demi glaze and the vegetable medley on point. The scallops were delicious but sorry, FF, puts a better sear on them to my way of thinking.
Wished I’d ordered the crème brûlée for the end: Denisa’s choice was wonderfully balanced. I had the sorbet medley whic should have been an easy win but was not. Someone was trying too hard in the kitchen and produced a mad scientist experiment. Still, a memorable meal.
Here’s a pic of my much loved appetizer: great taste and texture, odd colour
