Whassadismeet?

I was skimming around the Disboards and found "Dis Meets". I thought Dis Meets were get togethers thrown by Dis'ers for other Dis'er who live nearby.

But now I see there are Dis Meets at WDW. Do people go down specifically for these meets or is it more of a "Hey! We'll be down there on that date, let's do lunch" kinda thing?

Please, inquiring minds want to know!

Both answers are correct. I've been to DISmeets at WDW that were a result of a bunch of DISers who discovered that they would be there at the same time and who decided to get together for a meal, a day at the parks, or just simply a chance to say "hi".

Then there are those people (myself included) who will actually arrange their vacations in order to meet one or more DISers.

There really aren't any rules.

You can meet up with other DIS-ers when you are in the parks. I went to one in April and Met Dan Murphy for the first time! Yes, he is very tall in real life! That reminds me, I better post my Meet coming up in 28 days!

Bummer. We don't have any trips to the World planned at this time. Our last trip was in February It would probably be immoral if I got one of my girlfriends to fly down with me and left the DH and kids at home, huh? Hmmmm. Then again, I could tell them that were going to Miami for the weekend or something like that. I mean, think how much cheaper it would be for me to go without them. AND I could split the room cost too! But, I'd have to find someone who could take off some time from work.

I better stop it, or I'll talk myself into something.

Not immoral to me at all... I've done it and actually am about to do my third trip to WDW and share a room with a fellow DISer... that makes for a VERY cool DIS meet!!! I say you keep talking yourself into this... you could have a blast

I went to WDW last August specifically to meet a friend from UK chat. Hi Goofyish!

I've gone to Toronto, Niagara Falls, Denver and Houston just for a meet.

I'm going to be in Phoenix on Saturday and we're having a meet.

I agree, John said it very well. (Way to go, John!!!!! ) I have, as others have on this thread, been at DIS meets both here at home around the Chicago area (we have a great track record here for DIS meets ) as well as WDW, DL and other cities. Anytime I am traveling to a city somewhere, I always try to get a DIS meet organized. Sometimes we have had only 3, 4, maybe 5 people, other times 50 or so. And always a lot of fun, meeting other folks we inter-relate with here on the DIS with. I really enjoy DIS meets, wherever they happen to be. Get one set.

I've been to 2 DIS Meets and neither were at WDW. However, I have met one special DISer at Disney three years ago and plan on seeing her again next summer when my family goes down there again.

The last non-WDW DIS meet I went to involved a 1622 mile road trip. It was great!!
