We've narrowed it down!

We certainly could use great doctors in Chicago!! Seriously we have some wonderful medical facilities here. Is he thinking of University of Chicago??

What? No Yale-New Haven? :sunny:
Well OK then, I vote for DC or Chicago!

Well, Denver is too far for DH's mother.... she freaked out when her boy moved from Lima to Cincinnati. :)

And I wouldn't mind being a LITTLE closer to home....

Chicago is WAY up there on our list. There are four programs there (Cook County, Rush U, U of Chicago and U of I-Chicago). Also, we adore the city and it's close to home!

But I wanted opinions on some of the others! I've been to most of them, but NEVER with the thought of moving there!

As far as Cleveland, the programs are with Case (both Case MetroHealth and University Hospital Cleveland).

I always enjoy this speculation.... I can't wait to visit these places! I just wish that match day wasn't so late! We find out in March where we are going and have to move by June! :)

It is nice to hear about the cities, though, as - for the most part - we've only been discussing the specifics of the residency programs! :headache:

Go for Pittsburgh!!! We have a low cost of living and hospitals for as far as the eye can see! ;) We certainly have a thriving medical community. Our winters are kinda crappy, but all in all it's a great place!! :)

Belieeeeve me, Georgia was number 1 on my list, and I REALLY wanted this place that WAS in Houston to stay on the list (just so I could visit... never been!), but there were no programs at all in the ENTIRE state of GA, and the Houston one didn't offer the balance of itnernal medicine and pediatrics that DH was looking for :(

It will be an exciting year though, thank you!

The hospital here in Albany GA at Phoebe Putney Mem. Hospital has a great program....not sure why it would not show up for a list from GA. This is a great hospital and lots of state of the art facilities.and we are only 5 hours away from WDW!!!

Well, the program he's doing is a combined medicine-pediatrics program. I'm sure they have peds programs, but med-peds is a fairly new thing.... there are significantly lower numbers across the country, at least for now!

Well if you do end up at Stony Brook I would be happy to give you a little tour of the area etc.

Unfortunately, the mayo clinic does not have the program we are going for. I have had family experience with them, and wouldn't that be an awesome experience!!

I think the place on the list (or 2?) is technically in Minneapolis. It is a medicine-pediatrics program. so it would incorporate the children's hospital and another hospital nearby. So Rochester is a suburb? And how long of a 'hop'? :) Is it commutable, or just close enough to drive in for the weekend, etc?

Rochester is a LONG commute, but a lot of people do it. It is probably 50 miles from Rochester to Minneapolis Childrens/Hennepin County Medical Center-which I am guessing is the "other" hospital. There are better choices for a place to live if you are working in downtown Minneapolis. It just depends on what kind of area you want, rural, suburban, urban, etc.

Well, the application is made official in just a few hours! :teeth:

The following programs "made the cut" :)

University of Cincinnati Hospital Group (Cincinnati, OH)
Baystate Medical Center/Tufts UCOM (Springfield, MA)
University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI)
University of North Carolina Hospital (Chapel Hill, NC)
University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, MN)
Rush University Medical Center (Chicago, IL)
Christiana Care HS (Newark, DE)
Ohio State University Hospital (Columbus, OH)
St. Louis University School of Medicine (St. Louis, MO)
University of Kansas Medical Center (Kansas City, KS)
University of Massachusetts (Worcester, MA)
University of Maryland (Baltimore, MD)
University of Illinois COM – Chicago (Chicago, IL)
Loyola University (Chicago, IL)
SUNY Stony Brook (Stony Brook, NY)
University of South Florida (St. Petersburg, FL)
UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School (Newark, NJ)
University of Missouri –Kansas City (Kansas City, MO)
William Beaumont Hospital (Royal Oak, MI)

They are KIND OF in order of reccommendation from faculty, but also taking into consideration populations served, cities we'd live in, available nursing programs, distance from home :), etc..... so the actual rank won't happen until probably February.

Getting closer though ... :Pinkbounc
