DAY ONE - WE ARE OFF!!
So my early night caught up with me and at 6am I was wide awake and desperate to poke my 2 kids and wake them up so the excitement level in the room could be blamed on the children !! However common sense kicked in and I took a shower in peace and made myself a nice cup of coffee before phoning Wayne next door and telling him I was about to wake the treasures up !
We left the Travelodge at 7am and phoned the meteor Meet n greet service as soon as we set off for the airport.
The driver was brilliant helped us unload some stuff and with the minimum of fuss id signed my car to him!!
As we walked away I said “He was nice!!” Kids started laughing as apparently this was turning into my catchphrase every time I spoke to anyone!
After meeting with our airport guide and zooming through check in and security we left to amble about. By now I was starving and in desperate need of more coffee so Frankie and Bennys shouted us for breakfast. Again amazing service when working out what was safe for Keira and the waitress really took her time to double check everything. Breakfast was gorgeous and we were now free to explore the airport some more.
The boys were calling for magazines and of course the girls desperately need a toilet break so we split up to do our own things. Now here is my major bug bear with the duty free bit at Manchester airport – If I wanted to buy perfume I would be looking wouldn’t I? So why is it that when ever I walked through there with just me and Keira I got sprayed from every angle?? By the time I met up with the boys again we both smelt like we fell in the eau de toilette!! YUK YUK YUK !!
We had a major delay of around 4 hours in the end and to say the kids were getting tetchy is an understatement they were also starting to ask for more food by the time we were called to pre board and all 4 of them were decidedly cranky as we showed ourselves for preboarding ! Then I find out I’m selected for extra security and Wayne and kids had to board without me. I have no problem with this but Cam went crazy at the idea they were not letting me on the plane and a major meltdown followed!! Then when I finally get to them I realise we are sat apart in 2 sets of 3!! I was not happy at all and Cam was already distressed now had to be told we were separate and the usual routine of the 3 boys sitting behind me Wayne and Keira couldn’t happen and he would have to sit with one of us!! He took it quite well really and decided to sit by the window and turn his back on us in protest!!
The flight was the shortest flight to Florida Ive ever been on and after just 8 and ¼ hours we were landing!!
However the flight was also the worst flight I ever experienced – The staff were bordering on rude and food was inedible! The kids meals I requested never made it onto plane and the special needs cabin was heaving with people because Virgin now charge an extra supplement for these seats as they have slightly extra legroom and of course are first off the plane – for us it was a massive problem as crowds of people and sitting apart so Virgin could make a few extra quid left a real sour taste in our mouths. We pay virgins prices so that we get the special assistance that in the past we have always raved about – major fail this time on virgin’s part!!
Anyway off my soap box and we were landing!! I was disappointed to see it was raining and raining hard!!
Now immigration was really strange – its one long queue now which works fab if first off the plane like we were but the people behind us were in for a lengthy wait!!
The Immigration officer we got was strange – very strange!! He asked where we were staying and I replied in a Villa!! He then asked “What’s a Villa??”
“Err a house?” I replied then he said “What sort of house?”
How the hell do I answer that??
So I just said a house with a pool is about all I know till I get there!! Lmao
We breezed through security and collecting luggage and arrived in the car hire bit looking for our chauffeur Peter. It was at this point that Cam shouted out and I really thought he had been hurt or bitten by something when I asked what was up he declared “ I just pinched myself to make sure its real !”
This service was amazing Peter was there within minutes and helping us with luggage and tired children into nice cool minivan. Within 40 minutes of landing we were out of the airport and being driven to the villa.
My description of Peter – you guessed it – “He was Nice!!”
Before anyone could put backsides on chairs and not move for the foreseeable future I had they all bundled up in car and we were off to Wal-Mart for essential supplies!
Hunger got the better of us and MacDonald’s filled the hole – seriously was the best MacDonald’s I have ever tasted I was so hungry I don’t think it touched the sides.
As we pulled back into the villa complex we noticed some of the neighbours were putting up Xmas lights and the kids were very excited to go have a look. They were lovely people and after setting up the fairy lights around the palm tree got Keira to flip the switch to turn them on – amazing!! Her little face lit up with joy as the lights chased round the palm tree!!
As I walk away I look at Ben and say “Wow they were Nice “He fell about laughing again!
So we finally get to sit down when Ben asks “Where’s Daniel?”
Well after a look round villa we discover he is fast asleep locked in the car! Bless him he had been in car for a good 40 mins but was totally unaware that he had been abandoned!!
At 9 pm we call it a day and crawl into bed x
Day Two here
