We've got Deluxe APs but we're out of DVC points! A year of Disneyland trips- updated 6/27!

Plans sound great. I would also pick one hotel to stay at for the entire duration. The Embassy Suites would also be my pick. Not that I've stayed at the one in Anaheim but the others that I've stayed at were all great. And the breakfast buffet is better than most.

You are going to be so busy in July. As of now, my friend is thinking late July since I told him to not go during the middle of July which can be busy with DL 60th Anniversary week. When I went last year in late July, the crowd levels were not that bad. So by avoiding 4th of July week and DL 60th Anniversary week (which will be the busiest during the summertime), it would make sense to go in late July. I know that you have stayed at the GCH a lot with your DVC points and it would be a great treat to stay there even it it is only for one night.

As for another potential trip this year that I am thinking about is early December during the Candlelight Processional weekend. I have never been to the DLR during the CP in early December since I try to avoid it with the heavy crowds. But I am now thinking of going that weekend this year. I still have my November trip that I mostly do every year. Now might be the time to see the CP at DL.

We love early December too. Its probably my favorite time to go. We have never done CP.

Late July makes way more sense than our early July time. We will miss the 60th party by a week but I am hoping the refurbs are all finished and the park is ready.

I have not stayed at any of those places. Our first trip with DS7 was a few years ago when he was 5 and we stayed at the Marriott Suites. We liked it, but it's pretty far down Harbor. We drove in each day and that was OK, but inconvenient for afternoon breaks. We stayed at DLH this past November and LOVED it, but that was a special treat for the holidays. I've been curious about HoJo and Hilton Anaheim. I do like a nice room, but I like the short walk even more, so the Tropicana works for that purpose. DS7 is still at that age where he complains about walking too far, so we'll probably hold off on the HoJo for awhile. Have you seen the new Courtyard Marriott they're building right next to Hojo? Looks pretty nice, opening in July: http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/snadt-courtyard-anaheim-downtown/
And, yes, I am LOVING the AP. It's so fun when purchasing something and the CM asks if you are an AP and saying, "why yes, as a matter of fact, I am!" This will be a fun year!

Isn't that the best: why ::yes:: yes, I do have an AP! :woohoo:

I have seen the Marriott and it looks fantastic! I love the Marriott brand.

Between me and you ;) I think the Hojo has outpriced itself. Its one of the nicer Harbor Blvd hotels but its not worth what they are charging now.

Thanks for the heads up! And YAYAYAYAY for the annual pass. That certainly makes trip planning SO much easier! Sounds like you have all kinds of fun things in the works! :jumping1:

:welcome: girlfriend! Having an AP rocks! I am so happy we decided to get them.

Checking in. This looks like a busy year Disney-wise for you. What a shame that you ended up having to cancel the cruise. I am learning the hard way that just because you have DVC points available does not mean you get to stay onsite either. I have a couple of different waitlist for the Grand Californian for September and I am keeping my fingers crossed that something will get confirmed.

Corinna

Hi Corinna. :welcome:

I know, I am sad about the cruise but it'll happen when the time is right. :goodvibes: Hoping to still see Pam and Alsion that week.

Crossing my fingers and toes for your waitlist to come through! pixiedust:

This having no points has been a semi-tough pill to swallow but I think doing a report about the year of trips has helped already. I find it cathartic to journal.

Checking in!

Wish I was going to the birthday celebrations! But at least I can live vicariously through all the TRs.

Hi ya friend! :welcome: Wish you were coming too.

I'm here!

YAY for AP's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Super jealous, mine expires in 31 days.

Not that I am counting.

Or sad.

Or supper bummed.

Nope. Not at all!

I am sorry about the borrowing mess, it's such a fine line figuring it out and then things come up and BAM you are out of points! BOO for that. Never enough points. I am all borrowed out too if it makes you feel any better.

Well almost. I have 8 left for 2015 and "could" buy 24. LOL!

YAY for the birthday trip and you have a trip before that, in mere days! So excited to see you, Jill, Alison, Fran, and meet many more cool people like Darcy and naked Jim!

I can't wait.

Yay! :welcome:

Yay again for APs! I am elated.

Will you renew?

I have 5 points left to borrow and could buy 24 too. :lmao: Glad I am in good company!

So excited too see everyone too and Naked Jim! party:

OK I read the first post but I'm too tired to make cute posts. Love your family great plans. Stay at the Embassy Suites the whole time. The Anaheim Hilton is not that great and the Starbucks always has a line from hell. At least at the D23 conventions. I may have more to comment or not. Days are very tedious now. Bathroom breaks take at least an hour, it's very rough finding time to comment. I doubt I can get out to see you folks this spring break with everything going on. I'm sad because I was looking forward to a park day with some friends.

I am so sorry my friend that life is so stressful right now. Is there any way you could get home health care to come out daily or even every other day to help with ADLs etc and to give you a break? I bet you ladies have some sort of benefit or options through your insurance/Medicare/Medicaid. I am worried about you.

Don't count out not seeing us. Maybe we'll have to stop by depending on if Fran is up for visitors.

I agree that ES are generally very nice but sadly I have found that even the best chain hotels around Disneyland don't stand up to their sister facilities around the country. Not sure if it's just simple wear and tear or what? Hilton Garden Inns around here are really nice but the one in Anaheim, not so much. I am leaning towards the ES the whole time though. I spent some time on Trip Advisor last night. Neither hotel choice faired very well. :lmao: I think people like to complain. ;) The breakfast looks great and I am not picky about my vodka. LOL!

Sadly, no. I really and truly do not have another trip planned that would make it make any kind of sense to renew. I did look at it last week thinking maybe I would downgrade to just the DL one. However there are a few issues. One is I am pretty sure to do that, I'd have to be at the park. Two is the cost. Even if I used the AP on the Birthday trip AND did a race, I wouldn't even break even as it's just not enough days. I'd have to have 3 trips planned for the year to have it make sense. I cannot complain. In 2014 I had 3 WDW trips and 2 DL trips. I will live with only one each in 2015 (even if it doesn't feel like it at times lol). I think the hard part is that it well could be an 14-18 month gap after the bday trip.

What are ADLs? Jim is coming over later to see how he can help out.

I would be up for visitors!

You may not have to be at the park; maybe try to call but if you won't break even it doesn't make much sense. And I agree, you can't complain. :lmao: You have had a heck of a few great Disney years. :woohoo: Plus Aulani and the Birthday trip coming right up.

What are ADLs? Jim is coming over later to see how he can help out.

I would be up for visitors!

ADLs are Activities of Daily Living such as bathing, toileting, med management etc...A home health nurse could come in and help her while you do other things.

Well if you are up for visitors, I'll make it happen! :goodvibes:

We love early December too. Its probably my favorite time to go. We have never done CP.

Late July makes way more sense than our early July time. We will miss the 60th party by a week but I am hoping the refurbs are all finished and the park is ready.

Before I went in November, I always go in mid December on the second weekend but with my basketball season so busy in December, it made sense to go in November. But after experiencing the Avenger's Marathon in November, it made me rethink of when to go during the holiday season.

It does. I want to go back during 4th of July week to see the 4th of July fireworks at DL. Most of the reburbs will be done when it gets to May. The only ride that will be closed during that time will be Lugi's Flying Tires.

As for the hotels that you are considering, I would go with Embassy Suites South over the Hilton Anaheim. I have never stayed at any of those two hotels in Anaheim but I know that ES is great to have especially with the free breakfast and happy hour. I would not even walk from the Hilton to the DLR since it can take over 20 minutes of walking time. With ES South distance from the hotel to the bus loading/unloading area, it can take as much as 30 minutes to get from your hotel to the DLR (depends on how long it takes the buses to get). I don't like to depend on ART which can take some of your time from the trip. I know that when I walk from Best Western Stovall's which is about a 12 minute walk from the DLR. And walking from Stovall's to the Anaheim Convention Center which is about another 5 minute walk which can be very long (from my experience when going to the D23 Expo). It is a shame that HOJO is a very nice place to stay when going to the DLR but the prices have gone up crazy these last few years.

Since you love drinking Starbucks and Gabby works at Starbucks, you should all consider getting the DL/DCA Starbucks mugs during your trip. I was able to purchase them during my trip last week and they are very nice.

I finally made it over here and the plans sound great. I can totally relate to being out of DVC points as I'm in the same boat and staying at BWPPI for one night on our May trip.

I'm pretty sure I will be stir crazy by then. Just having Jim come by tonight was nice.

How did things go with naked Jim? Will he be able to help out some?

That's good to know. I am a little bummed that we'll be lissing Soarin'. Peter Pan, and Spalsh this trip.

ES has it's own shuttle which costs $5 per person per day so it's actually less expensive to drive but I find the parking structure a headache. I wonder how how touring will be effected as we won't be able to hop back to our hotel as easily? I am concered about the time it'll take to take to shuttle back and forth, just like you described. I like HoJo too but they have totally outpriced themselves.

I want those mugs soooooo badly! I have the Utah one. I need the DLR ones! I hope they're not sold out.

Hi ya and :welcome:

You are out of points too? I am in stellar company. We haven't added on since our initial purchase. If we added on anywhere I'd like the GCV but the prices are so $$$ even resale. Trouble is I'd need a 100 point contract minimim.

How did things go with naked Jim? Will he be able to help out some?

He can come over and do the litter boxes. That means I don't have to spend an hour each way driving to pick up Darcy. I really isn't an hour, more like 40 minutes. But that helps.

Was it crazy during the marathon?

The marathon week was busy. Originally I was thinking of canceling that week and go during another. It has to due with the marathon along with the first official weekend of the holiday season at the DLR which contributed the crowds. Mostly I go during the first official weekend of the holiday season at the DLR and the crowds are about above average. This was not like Christmas break crowds but it did felt like summer crowds. It was manageable as long as you are patience.

I was also bummed that Soarin and PP were down during my trips but at least those rides will be great when they will be ready for the 60th Anniversary. At least you will be able to experience them during your July trip.

You are right that ES has its own shuttle. No question that parking the car in the structure will be a headache especially with a transportation to the DLR. $5 is about right for a one day pass for the shuttle to EB just like ART one day. But ART has a 3 day where it will be $12 and a 5 day for $20. I wonder what ES multiple rates are? I don't know how long it will take you to get from the ES to the DLR but I would say at least 5-10 minutes (depends on the traffic on Harbor Blvd). When I stayed at Best Western Raffles Inn during the February trip and took the ART. The one way going from the hotel to the DLR was less than 5 minutes. But going back took about 20 minutes (that includes the other stops on the route). That's why I don't like to stay at hotels that aren't walk able like ES. If ES had a good walking distance, I would stay there most of the time. No kidding. Even with the AP discount is too much for one night.

Hope you are able to get those mugs during your trip.

This year we are staying at the Hampton Inn Summerlin, Nevada: http://hamptoninn3.hilton.com/en/hotels/nevada/hampton-inn-las-vegas-summerlin-LASSMHX/index.html It’s no frills with an indoor pool and free breakfast. It works well and we get to avoid The Strip. Don’t get me wrong; I LOVE Vegas just not with a gaggle of kids. We’ll stay there two nights. Gabby will miss the portion of the trip. She works at Starbucks as a barista and recently got promoted. That weekend is her first training shift. She loves working for Starbucks. She is also staying back because it’s her boyfriend’s birthday that Sunday. Ah, young love. Anyway, she’ll fly out Monday to meet us.

As far as dining options, we end up eating lots of Subway with maybe one nicer meal out. We usually end up at Buca di Beppo http://www.bucadibeppo.com/ or The Cheesecake Factory http://www.thecheesecakefactory.com/ . This year I would like to try something different. I have read good things about BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse http://www.bjsrestaurants.com Has anyone here been? I called today and they take reservations for 8 or more. Looks like a nice change of pace and not too far from our hotel. I like trying places we can’t eat at in Utah but with a team dinner, that’s difficult sometimes.

I lived in Summerlin for a year (and Las Vegas area for 5yrs) and pretty much ate the whole time. SOOOooo many great restaurants because there isn't anything else to do there.

DON'T eat the standard stuff! It's like being in a wonderful food oasis there!! BJ's is just BLECH! Like a Chilis or Applebees...

We love Flemings Steakhouse, Via Brasilia (all you can eat meat!), and Marche Bacchus. Agave for Mexican food is pretty great.

Love the JW Marriott - we used to go there on our "staycations" try their Breakfast Buffet if you have time - it's only $20! And we enjoy their Waterside Grille fresh burgers and wraps.

Grimaldi's Pizza is the best West Coast pizza - I used to work in poker and everyone that came out for the World Series ofPoker from East Coast always fell in love with it. Amazing desserts too, can't go wrong with ANYTHING here.

My friend got married at Vinter Grill and there food is amazing and they have patio and outdoor but covered seating.

Have you been to Tivoli Village? It's modeled after a town in Italy and just adorable - you can walk around and find some great restaurants there and Brio is always a great idea - plus they have patio seating. You can wander there and find something for everyone.

Eat Eat Eat in Summerlin should be their Official Town Motto :lovestruc

Patience is key during high volume times for sure. I don't mind a 30 minute line so much. I am a little worried about crowds during Spring Break.

True. Good attitude. I am excited to try the new Smokejumper's to eat. It took the place of Taste Pilot's.

I think ART stops in from the Hilton Garden Inn which is right next door to the ES I believe. That might be the way to go. We're stuck being out of walking distance. I like that ART gives a small discount for multi-day passes. We'll be doing the park 4 days.

Thank you, thank you for all of the Summerlin suggestions! One of the soccer moms suggested Grimaldi's Pizza too. :thumbs That sounds like a better option than BJ's. I don't love Applebee's or Chili's. A different soccer mom raves about BJ's and goes overtime we travel to Nevada.

I love Fleming's too. :cloud9: Their potatoes are to die for but sadly it's not in the budget for this trip. I think we've seen Agave before. Might have to give that a go too. Great suggestions!!!

We haven't been to Tivoli Village; it's in Summerlin? I like that option.

I'm tagging along for this one :)

Yay and :welcome:

Definitely. I am patient when I stake out spots for the parade and shows. For rides like RSR, Space, etc. I am not that in a rush to ride it since I have rode it plenty of times. Spring Break should not that be bad. Just as you said as long you are patience, you will have a great time at the DLR in a few weeks.

I wanted to see the new Smokejumpers Grill. Just as you said that it is the old Taste Pilot's restaurant. When I looked at the menu, it is similar what Taste Pilot's offer which is burgers and chicken sandwiches. I was hoping that they would do something different but that is not the case.

That is correct. When I took the ART which is line 1 or 2 that goes towards the Hilton Garden which is right next to ES.

Where are you guys finding this information? I want to know about the new place. Too bad its the same old menu. But I guess that's the only place in that park to get a burger.

Here is the link to the Smokejumpers Grill on the Disney Park Blog

Menu at Smokejumpers Grill

When Smokejumpers Grill was under construction during my trip this month and last month, Paradise Grill menu was changed to burgers and chicken. I was disappointed that Paradise Grill menu was changed.

Great! Thanks for confirming that. I am going to check on the ART site for pick up times. I am thinking that'll be our best option.

I read it on the Disney Parks blog a few weeks ago. It open up right before we arrive. :woohoo: And you're right, it's the only place to get a burger in DCA. Crazy! ETA: Guess that they changed the Paradise Grill menu according to Bret. Thank you Bret for posting the links.
