We are going to WDW next week - August Heat!!! :sunny: :cool1:

Please give me a list of the rides where we will want to get WET and a list of the rides that we will want to WEAR OUR PONCHOS.

How about a list of ALL of the wet rides for the parks? (We are not planning on visiting any water parks.) I will have things with us that I don't want to get wet - backpack, camera, cell phone, watches, glasses, sunglasses, autograph books, etc.

Maybe I will bring one of those HUGE ziploc bags to put everything in for the Kali ride at AK - Would this be a good idea?? Also, we need suggestions on how to stay dry on the Kali ride wearing the Dollar Tree "cheap" ponchos.... I've heard that you can wear a clip, clothes pin, etc. under the "neck" of the poncho to stay mostly dry on this ride. WE ARE LOOKING FOR THE SUGGESTIONS THAT DEFINITELY KEEP YOU DRY!!!!

I ride Splash, and get wet. I do not ride Kali, as I don't want to be like I fell in the water, LOL. I am trying to think of other rides where you get wet, none come to mind at the moment. Maybe a few drops on Pirates and Maelstrom, that's about it.

Yeah! I want to know too. IF, and I mean IF, I am convinced by my crew to even try to brave any of these rides, I wanna know up front . . . HOW WET IS IT?

Maybe there should be a star rating system:

4 stars: Ya better wear your bathing suit and pack a change of clothes.
3 stars: Cover up with a poncho, pinned under the neck & ziplock valuables.
2 stars: Maybe a poncho, but no worries.
1 star: Just damp. You'll be dry before you get to the next ride.

Pirates and Maelstrom, I give one star. That is not wet.

I ride those! :thumbsup2

Ok I'd give:

Kali River Rapids: 3 1/2 stars
Splash Mountain: 2 stars (just my face and bottom always get wet)
Maelstrom: 1 star
Pirates: 1 star
MGM Backlot tour: 1 star (hey I got damp on this, ok!)

kali River Rapids, especially if you are going up the ramp backwards expect to get soaked, if you are facing forward going up expect to get wet

I assume you'll have a fanny pack  to stow all your goodies in...unless you're going to fall into the water cannot imagine your "stuff" getting soaked. Even my DS was able to keep autograph book, pins, hat, glasses, etc. dry. Don't forget, most folks just leave their glasses/sunglasses in place - nothings really too wild @ WDW (well, maybe RNRC).

Personally, think Kali is a snooze, we usually skip it. Cannot remember if it has the "stow space" in the middle where you hang on or that's @ Universal (best themed rapid ride IMO).

$ store ponchos are good, to use once or twice & pitch each day) but, I detest wet feet - more likely & the "wet bottom syndrome" on Splash Mt. - that ponchos never seem to avoid.

Don't stress, you'll dry off quickly during the day, even in the winter, enjoy the magic

I have ridden Splash Mountain lots of times and have never gotten more than a little wet on the seat or a few drops on my shirt, but this past trip something happened. Somehow I got drenched. I mean, my hair was soaked and plastered to my head, it was that wet. I couldn't figure out why. Maybe I had just been lucky all the previous times. :confused3

I actually enjoy getting wet on the rides...it's great way to feel refreshed from all the heat and humidity. And because it's high heat, it doesn't take long before you're completely dry again.

I am in agreement why go on a water ride with a poncho, getting wet is part of the fun, if you dont want to get wet dont get on them

I love Kali River but you will get wet. Very wet. There is a storage area in the middle of the raft to put your stuff in, but often they are overstuffed and don't close properly, so that gets wet too. A large ziplock would not be a bad idea.

I think you could use a poncho to partially protect yourself but I wouldn't rely on it to keep you completely dry.

In cool weather we usually plan to hit Kali River last, before we go back to the hotel, so we aren't walking around in wet clothes for long. In hot weather we're glad to be wet!

For me, wet shoes are the worst thing. Crocs are a good choice for this ride!

I think that it's hard to say for sure how wet you get because it depends on where you sit....for example on the MGM Backlot Tour it depends on which side of the train you sit on...last year I sat all the way to the left and got SOAKED...i got more wet on that ride than on Kali River Rapids. This year, I sat on the other side and let my brother take the hit. :rotfl2:
But of course on Kali, we all got drenched. I've ridden on Splash Mountain and gotten soaked from the drop, and I've ridden it and gotten more wet from sitting on the seat then from the wave after the drop. :goodvibes On pirates and Maelstrom, i've only ever gotten small drops here and there

Khali river is about the wettest you want to ever get and not drown! :rotfl2: they do have a little section in the middle where you can put your non water proof items like cameras etc....my advise, USE THEM! :teeth: YOU WILL GET WET! I did not ride it last time we were there because I had bronchitis (sp) and it was a cool December. Splash Mountain is a nice cool dip where you can get fairly wet but not soaked...usually!
HAVE FUN whatever you decide to do and maybe bring a poncho or two? :rotfl2:

We had a similar experience in January during EMH at night. We got soaked! As our log went around the area where the big drop is, the log coming down absolutely soaked us! We were very surprised-we had never been soaked before on SM. :sad2: It was cold enough that we actually left the park earlier then we had intended since we were so wet. I took my DD6 into the restroom and wrung out her top and jeans and stuffed paper towels in her jeans. My DD still talks about how wet we got on SM and how she didn't like it.

On the other hand, she loves :lovestruc Kali River Rapids. However, we do wear ponchos (and she wears her bathing suit) because I don't want to get completely soaked. Mostly I don't want my hair and face soaked. My clothes will dry. :sunny: I usually wear my crocs so I don't care if my feet get wet. I change my DD into her water shoes (I carry them with us for water play).

These are the only 2 rides we have gotten wet on-other than a few drops here and there.

I do like your idea of bringing a large ziploc. :thumbsup2 The center area isn't very big and isn't completey waterproof either. I always carry my things under my poncho but next time I'll bring a big ziploc for cameras, phone, etc.

HI,
WE just rode Water Rapids today-there is a storage compartment in the center--nothing of ours got wet--we also have autograph books and cameras in ziplock bags--nothing has goten wet--several people had on poncho's on Kali today-I personally liked the water--IT IS HOT_you will already be wet from sweating!! I say go for it--Splash mtn., was not bad at all, hardley wet-

Here is my advice for Kali if you wear tennis shoes. Take your socks off and there is a bin to store your items put all your stuff in there and then close and put your feet on that bin. You can't take your shoes off anymore but all of us who did that walked off with dry shoes if nothing else on us was dry.
