I am cruising on January 29th with husband and two boys, 5 and 6. I have booked a "Royal Swim" with the dolphins at Chankanaab on my own. Has anyone else ever done this? Will the handlers allow the kids to pet the dolphins, or just the participant? I am trying to decide if I need to book "Dolphin Encounters" for the kids, or if they will at least get a chance to touch one if my husband is doing the 1 hour swim. Also, we are going to this park on our own via taxi. Anyone else ever done this? I am wondering how much walking there will be for the kids. My older one has a skeletal disorder, and walking long distances can be tough. Any advice on what we should pack in our bag for a day at Chankanaab? Thanks!

It is probably a 10 minute walk through the park to the Dolphin area.

I don't think they will let anyone in the water that is not doing the swim.

We did the Royal Swim on our Dec 4 cruise. You can catch a taxi in the shopping area right across the st from the boat. They drop you off in front of park. You pay your admission fee for the park. The dolphins are in the front part of park. You are not allowed in the water unless you are participatin.g. Other members of your party can watch on the docks. I would sign my boys up for the Royal Swim, when you get there or call. My kids loved it   They wanted to do it again. They will sell you the video at the end for $75. (I think that was the price) We taped it ourselves. You walk out of park and can take a taxi back. You could never walk to the park from the boat. It is miles away

I too am scheduled for the Dolphin Adventure and plan to take a taxi to the park. I am not going through the Disney excursions either. I am eager to hear more about this from anyone else who has done this. My 17 year old son and his 17 yr old gf will be hanging out at the lagoon/beach area because they didnt want to play with the dolphins. I am going on the Jan 29th Magic as well....

My b/f and I were there last year on a carnival cruise. We left the boat and got our own taxi for about 5 dollars and it was 12 dollars a person to get in to the park. We got there at about 8:30 or 9am. None of the snorkel rental stores were open but we had brought our own due to my latex allergy. We were the only ones there for about a half an hour, it was great. While he was snorkeling I walked around and saw people doing the dolphin encounter thing. I watched from the path and then casually started up a conversation with the man who was guarding the walkway to the pen. He let me go through, I never asked, and I got to stand there and take pictures. It appeared as if the dolphins just got to be petted by the people. I may be wrong. Chankannab is a great park, there is a cool park to walk through, shaded and quite nice. Also, grab a bottle of Sol, mexicos beer, at the bar, It's great, much better than Corona, in my opinion.

Enjoy!
