Jill wants to go to Alaska, but she was just about as cold as you were the entire cruise! She might come back from an Alaskan cruise as one of the frozen ice sculptures!

V....what a difficult situation you are in. My best words of advice: Samantha and Haley are your girls and you need to allow them to do what you are comfortable with...not what you are guilted into doing! I know that may upset some, but that is the way life happens.
I was very strict (and to some controlling) when it came to what I allowed the girls to do when they were younger and it upset my IL's to no end, but they learned to deal and moved on.
Stay strong and know that you are doing what is best for the girls!

Wise words! I do the same... and never, never, never does DD go with the IL's. Barely even to another room as they are untrustworthy. SAD because my GM practically raised me.

Any my low points on the Cruise was some dis people avoided us as we thought that not our fault for being disability but as their problems not our as we were happy on the Cruise and glad to had two interpreters made us laugh too. No need for some people walked past us without saying hello etc.

anyway, some lovely usa and calofornia people are lovely too. Shame that I have not met more disboards, think I missed some.

People avoided me too! But I think its because they afraid I'll talk their ear off!!! Other people were just overwhelmed with the whole cruise and were big talkers here and then barely said a word in real life. The same thing happened last year. People have online personas and they don't match their real life personas. It's a part of the online community and for some online addiction.

I always think "if they're not wearing their lanyards, they don't want to talk or be known." There were a lot of people who said they weren't getting to know people, but either never wore their lanyards and then wondered why. Or never ordered lanyards and knew everyone else, but nobody knew them. And their were a lot of people who never picked up their lanyards and then didn't have fish extenders out to have them delivered. Connie said it over and over.... she needed the lanyards to remember everyone's name and sort out the screen names.

I also met a ton of people who were lurkers on this thread and knew me, but never posted or ordered or got involved. That was pretty scary.

I would struggle with an alaskan cruise. Cruises should be hot!!! However, we would seriously look at it if it happens. I think I have got to the age where my bones need warmth.
I think I yelled at Deborah all the time!!! It is a bit like talking to someone on the phone who is a long way away - I always shout in case they can hear me better.
One night I was talking to Deborah and Alison by the Midship elevators on deck 6 and we were having a really good laugh as usual when I realised it was very late and we were acting like the teens hanging in a group and making a lot of noise!!!! Sorry Kelly if we kept you awake!

Never heard you... we travel with a sound machine in our room at night.


Funny, though I often approached Deborah in silent hand conversation with other deaf & HOH folks, so can't say she made a ruckus!!!!

I was cold in all of the restaurants and venues on the ship...even in our stateroom. I sure was glad that I brought along a pair of lightweight winter pj's.

I have to admit to being cold at Parrot Cay and just couldn't remember to take a cardigan.

We couldn't get our room cold enough at all and had the engineers out, but to no avail. I do have all the extra insulation from a good layer of fat though!

The internet community is a strange thing and online you can be who you want to be. I agree with your comments about the differences in people. Some were just as I expected and some completely different.

There is no way I can personally thank everyone for all their efforts on this trip and if I start to mention people by name, I will forget someone and feel bad. So let me just say thank you to everyone, those I met and those I just ran out of time and didn't get to meet. Each of you helped in your own little way to make this journey certainly a magical one for me and my family. And for that I am eternally grateful.

When I first looked at this cruise I was concerned over the number of days at sea as I am not generally one to sit around and do nothing. I like to be moving and doing something. 15 nights with only 5 ports scared the living daylights out of me, thinking I was going to go stir crazy. But I really wanted to try the Canal, and it wasn't everyday you get to do this type of thing so we booked it. And I found this group. This group saved my sanity. Yes, I know it's hard to believe this group actually SAVING the sanity of a person, but it's true. I truly believe that without the ability to meet and interact with the members of this board in the manner that we did, I would have gone stir crazy with the days at sea and the trip would not have been nearly as much fun as it was - not one iota! In fact, this group actually had me looking forward to sea days and dreading the ports when we all went our separate ways. So again, thanks to everyone for really making this one special voyage that can never duplicated again.

Good morning all, Well, I got a lot of the gardening done yesterday. All of my business work is caught up from the trip and the summer challenges are now ready to begin. We have so much on our plate to get done in 15 weeks that my brain is going to be swimming.

Cheri: thanks for the great bag - we used it for the trip home and again for our Coronado trip. Since we travel for work all year long it will be well used.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to make the CD's we had so much fun listening to them yesterday while plowing through the house work.

The kleenex's (who made those?) were hilarious!

I've got magnets all over my office - love all of them.

OZDisnyfan: thanks so much for the coasters and koalas -- loved them and can't believe how heavy they must have been.

Teem Geek: we've put the mousepad to use already!

Glow in the dark maracas have become quite fun here. (Seaulater's team)

And the noteboards are on my fridge.

The binoculars were a great surprise.

Carol & Deborah: the pens and paper were big hits with us.

And to Woody and Mrs. Woody: A big thanks for all the girly goodies that she is still wearing and playing with here at home. She wore the crown to bed last night!

There were many gifts that didn't have names on them and we just loved all of them. There were so many well thought out gifts that were lots of fun.

A very big thanks to Linda (Seaulater) for the Mini-Navigator. That was not only a huge amount of work, but I used it every single day. And for the scrapbook party, which gave me a chance to sit with a fun group of gals. (And to Karen who also did a lot of work on the party!!!!) And thanks for organizing the group photos.

To Tony and Adrienne for a very fun experience at sea with the mouseadventure on the high seas. Jonathan was a convert and had a blast. We can't wait to do it on land.


OMG, I know I'm forgetting so many people that gave wonderful gifts and fun things that happened. So, thank you to all of you.

The Wynn buffet is a favorite of ours. We were comped, as we dropped a few dollars in the casino.

I heard that they aren't comping drinks anymore They just sent us something to stay there but that wouldn't be good for the pocket book! We only stayed once and we LOVED the drink service. You would sit down and someone would immediately come over. It was nice for coffee in the morning.

Nothing. Which is why we like to travel to other places!

Truthfully there isn't much for indoor activities. This is a place to go to the lake (although it will be cold by your standards), go hunting, fishing, canoeing (we have the world famous Bowron Lakes here), camping, or other outdoorsy things.

I'm not much of an outdoorsman except I like to go out in my flat water kayak and my idea of "roughing it" is "no room service".

We have Barkerville nearby. Barkerville is an old ghost town that in the 1860's was the biggest city west of Chicago and north of San Francisco. Then the gold rush ended up here and it died. Now it is Provincial historical park.

Every July we have our big family fair called "Billy Barker Days". It's just a small town country type fair.

Realistically though, Quesnel city proper has a population of about 8,000 which zooms right up to 20,000 when you include the outlying area. So it's not like this is a major metropolis.

Whether or not to come up here really depends on what you like to do. Generally people come up here to go camping or on their way to the Alaskan Highway.

We're not really outdoorsy but we do like to tent camp with the kids. The air mattress isn't the most comfortable but the kids love it. There is a bond that you get from camping that you can't get anywhere else. Unfortunately, it is too hot a lot of the year. Jon's parents keep their motor home on our yard. I think we need to start using it!

It was the people who made this, our very first cruise a trip of a lifetime. I've made friends who I know will be with me for a very long time and I am also grateful for everything that everyone did not only for the cruise, but for us, from the events to the FE to just being there and spending time with us. I too looked forwards to the at sea days and only wished I could have met many of the people I have gotten to know here on the boards. I was very lucky to have met those I did, but I fear another 15 nighter is in order so I can meet the rest.

Oh.. and I forgive you for trying to steal my plate on Pirate night...

Who is the smart lady that booked both repos? I need another one.

Gaylean, what grade is Ethan in? Is he in 2nd? He sounds very much like my nephew at that age. Getting him to do his homework was a real battle, but somewhere toward the end of 3rd grade he really changed. He just finished 4th and he's almost always very good about getting his homework done. I think it was a maturity thing.

I hope you are right. Thank you so much for saying this. It is strange but another teacher I know told me the same thing. I told her I was worried about 3rd grade because I hear it is a lot harder and she said that they are ready for it. I guess they mature a lot in 3rd grade.

As for Brooke, I'm a little worried because she isn't reading and writing as well as he was. I know I shouldn't compare but I thought 1st grade was rough for him so I worry if she'll get discouraged. She keeps telling me "I can't really read, I just look at the pictures". The teacher says it is normal but I remember when Ethan started reading and he could read signs and a lot of things without pictures. The teacher just asked me today which teacher I want for Brooke next year and I don't know what to say. Ethan's 1st grade teacher was mean BUT he learned a lot. He needed that. Brooke is REALLY good and quite and I'm afraid for her to have a mean teacher. I almost wish she wouldn't have asked me.

Well, I'm dog-sitting for my sister for the next several days. I picked the dog up today and brought her to my house. She's a Bichon-Maltese mix, very cute and very willful not totally house-broken so I have to keep my eye on her all the time. Nevertheless, I enjoy taking care of her and she's pretty good most of the time. But this time there was a new wrinkle...she's in heat and has to wear a diaper.

Even though I don't have kids of my own, I have diapered a fair share in my day, but this is the first time I've ever diapered a dog. She wears little preemie-size diapers and I have to cut a hole for her tail. Of course she doesn't LIKE to wear the diaper, so she periodically tries to chew it off. I'm really earning my money on this job!

I didn't realize that you never had any children. Happy dog sitting!
