Westbound Panama Canal March 4-18 2022

Don't think it'll happen but we shall see.
I'm rooting for a Costa Maya stop instead of GC.
Anything really but not another sea day. We have so many as it is. I like to stretch my legs.
I agree another port would be nice along the way.

Dunno about Costa Maya since it's just a few hours down from Cozumel. The ship would want to cover a decent amount of distance overnight to make it to Cartagena and the canal on time.

Weeks we have - two and a half to be precise - but it looks like even the port is playing it by ear:

Actually, we have 10 days! :cool1::banana:9 days on the DCL app but that counts down to midnight of our sail date.
I prefer to only count workdays because being home is so easy. For me, only 5 more days of work! :woohoo::dance3::cheer2:

We did PCR testing on Feb 6, just in case we had an old asymptomatic infection from several weeks prior. Then tested again on Feb 20, a week after a small gathering for my dad's 80th birthday. I didn't want to miss out on any opportunity to get a doctor's note of recovery if necessary.
So we're both still negative and trying to avoid people as much as possible. This weekend I'll be packing! :hourglass :shamrock:
I can't believe it's really happening.

We did PCR tests yesterday, and waiting for results.. if all negative, we are ready to take the flight to NOLA on Tuesday.
If we clear the last hurdle, the coveted "clear to sail", I'm thinking of doing a LIVE trip report on that section, with updates from the ship as much as the portable wifi hub I'm taking allows.

If we get to board, I'll do a thing similar to that movie "I am legend" where Will Smith has this spiel about "if you're out there, I have food, I have shelter, etc, meet me at Noon at...." :rotfl2:

Everyday, I'll be at Signals bar outdoor on deck 9 at noon for a few minutes having my first drink of the day, either at one of those tables nearby or the bar top. :drinking1
I'll be wearing a BlueJays baseball cap in case you want to come and say hi... I'll be happy to meet other DiS'ers.

We also tested yesterday and got negative results this morning. Now to go pack. See you on the ship!

Big test today. Hope we all pass!

We'll all be arriving today at our own times, unpacking, and finding the schedules and whereabouts. How about we meet up on Day 2 or Day 4 (the day after Cozumel)? Signals at 12.00 Noon works.

Let's do day 4 noon @ signals ? - Monday after Cozumel, after we get settling in?
I'll be @ signals around noon every day anyway bc it's where I like to have my 1st drink of the day (not a boozehound - but I do drink more when cruising... only time I don't have to worry about anything)
Will be wearing a Bluejays baseball cap for those DIS'ers that are still reading this thread, made it to the ship and want to come say hi.. Happy cruising everybody!

We were on the Magic in November and it was an amazing cruise. 800 passengers, 830 crew. 3 main shows, magician onboard. It was as close to normal as I could have hoped for but better since the ship was so empty. We had a blast, met lots of people, FE went well, no covid cases
Hi, can you please give me details on how you guys did the "FE". Seeing we are officially not allowed to hang things I assume you did small exchanges safely out on deck.. Planning details would be great! thanks

So, it looks like we have the Panama Canal presentations on both sea days after Cozumel that will go past 12.00 noon. And I have seen Signals and the entire adult area crowed on sea days so far - though we could adjust the meeting time to counter that.

Here is another idea. How about we arrange a DIS lunch for the first sea day after the canal transit? I know some folks are limiting contact until after the crossing, so this may help increase the turnout. I can get input from guest services to see if there is a better way to organize such lunch at an MDR.

Folks, how's Sunday, March 13 - Day 10 - for a meetup? Golden Mickeys is the main event on that sea day, but there isn't much happening earlier. So we can meet up for drinks or a light lunch?

The adult areas are crowded at those times. How about Tiana's Place at 12.15 PM onwards?

The head server says that they can accommodate up to 8 people without any special notice. Whoever shows up first, get a table for up to 8 - we can always add more. Use 'DIS' as the name of the table or group. Does that work?

sorry for the delayed response. We did them as meet-ups in person on the upper deck. My guess is with a lot of the restrictions being lifted that DCL will now allow FE's to be hung on the fish outside the doors again. I ran the meet-ups in November on a cruise I was on and the meet-ups turned out to be a lot of fun. Very social. This time I assisted the person running them and because the participation was so heavy it got a bit chaotic. A lot of people also didn't show up to pick up their gifts so we ended up just hanging them on the fish anyway and no one seemed to care.

Sorry I did not see this until today. Would have loved to meet for lunch. Hope everyone who showed up had a great time. What an amazing cruise and what a great group of people onboard!!
