I have only been to 1 Con and it was a anime-con in KC, MO.

We're not dressing up but I am looking forward to seeing those that do!

I remember there another thread on here in which one poster said that the WBC planned to picket her child's school because they were doing a production of The Laramie Project.

I remember they planned to do that when it was to be performed in the UK and someone in the government made it so they weren't allowed to enter the country and they began to refer to the UK as a place of......actually I won't post it here but it's their usual banter.

I really enjoy the counter protests I've seen, once saw a video of a whole univesity protest against their protest and the tutors who obviously agreed were quietly trying to stop the students until the police came .

But to honest they are just publicity hounds, something Fred himself once admitted in the late 90's when he said he would only picket where it would get him media attention (like the president's wife's funeral....I think this was not long after they picketed the funeral of the gay teenager who was killed).

I also remember see Shirley on TV saying they promote love and peace....right after saying people deserved to die for supporting a "***-enabling" country

One of my college instructors who was originally from Lynchburg, VA said that the WBC picketed Jerry Falwell's Thomas Road Baptist Church several times and that the family also admitted to the locals that they wanted to get as much attention that Falwell had been getting throughout the years.

I do wonder if there will be picketing at Fred's funera whent it happens and I would like to see how the WBC reacts to that. Like another poster mentioned they will find some legal ground to hide behind. The college instructor that I mentioned in my previous post said that the first time the WBC picketed Falwell's church many of Lynchburg locals who disliked Falwell were very happy that the WBC was picketing his church. They felt Falwell was getting a taste of his own medicine. Fred Phelps is far worse than people like Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson. Both Falwell and Robertson hurt many people with their words but at least they didn't show up to funerals, hearings and taunt people.

maybe not so much a 'picketing/protest' at his funeral, than a party/celebration type gathering..... how 'bout a few hundred midgets, dressed up like their in 'the wizard of oz', marching around at his funeral singing "ding dong the witch is dead!"

Note that the organizers of Comic-Con are considering moving it to Anaheim, Los Angeles, or Las Vegas for 2011. IMO moving Comic-Con from San Diego would be an enormous sell out, the convention would lose its soul. If it's more money they're after, just raise the ticket prices. The event sells out in days, obviously there's more demand than supply!

See if there's a list of their "congregation" and then picket ALL THEIR FUNERALS. EVERY LAST STINKING ONE OF 'EM.

That would be great. It would be interesting to see what legal course of action they would use to stop that, especially since they play the legal card with their own protests. I'm reasonably sure there would be a double standard in play.

I read about them protesting at Justin Bieber concerts a few weeks ago. They also protested a few Lady Gaga concerts. Lady Gaga told her fans not to pay attention to them and pray for them. I'm not a huge Lady Gaga fan but she clearly has more sense than them. I think the WBC is simply protesting anything that is popular and using the excuse about how certain things are evil. In one of my previous posts I mentioned the college instructor that I had who was from Lynchburg, VA. He said that during one of the protests that the WBC did at Jerry Falwell's church the WBC admitted to locals in the town and around the church that they were picketing because they wanted just as much attention that Jerry, Pat Robertston and other popular ministers were getting. The WBC recently pickted Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyer events. They just want to get as much attention as they can because them picketing funerals isn't covered by the media that much anymore so if they picket an event that is popular or involves someone that is popular they know the media will report on it.
