West. Cruise: US$ or Foreign Currency ?

I have read on these boards that US$ is pretty much accepted in all of the ports, but my question is.....

Is there any benefit to carrying around some of the local currency? Would you get a better deal? or were there cases when some of the smaller, side street shops would only take local currency?

No need to carry any foreign currency.

We did use credit card for meals...charged in pesos..worked great..then we tipped in cash..the servers loved it.

No benefits...use $US. The locals would rather have US money anyhow.

Locals would rather have US$$$$$$ - but sometimes, they will give you the change in pesos -
