Were your parents highly successful?

No. My mom was a housewife and my dad was just a mechanic. He eventually opened his own garage but I wouldn’t say they were highly successful. They got by and my dad liked having his own business.

Not rich. My mom did invest well though and is “set for life”. I’m thankful for that.

No, not at all if we're talking material possessions and money. But my mother especially gave us wonderful love and attention, and taught us how to love and be good people in the world. I'd call that a success.

Dad started working at Thorofare grocery store at 16. He received a turkey for Thanksgiving and it made his youngest brother cry because that was the first time they had ever had a turkey for Thanksgiving since they were poor.

He didn't go to college. He was called by someone for an office job in an electrical contracting business. His boss farmed him out a few times to another outfit. One day boss said, "Chuck is going to offer you a job. You need to take it because I'm finished this time next year." So Dad started working for Chuck and worked his way through the office.

Many years goes by and he gets a call from Paul, whom he had worked with years earlier on a project. Paul said, "I just started my own outfit and want you to run it." So Dad became the vice president of a small electrical contractor in Pittsburgh. I'd call that successful up until he passed suddenly at 43.

Yes. Not necessarily by their incomes, but by the way they saved and invested.

Yes, my father who just passed away a few months ago owned his own business and never bought anything with credit or through a loan his entire life. At the funeral home, I couldn't believe home many people came when he lived in a very small town in rural Iowa. He was very well thought of by many.

Never wanted for necessities. Not afraid to work hard. Their first house cost $2,500......a one bedroom 1 bath home on 5 acres. They added onto it over 10 years with their own hands and it was a 3 bedroom 2 bath house when they sold it for $50,000.
I inherited the ability to do a lot with not a lot of money.

Absolutely. Made 4 outstanding adults (myself and my siblings) out of a blended family situation. Put us kids first always.

Dad achieved the rank of Colonel in the Army and after he retired became the dean of local community college, so I would rate him as successful. My mother worked before she married including traveling around during World War II showing other women how to make do with the limited supplies of goods available. After she married and had the four of us, she had little time for work outside of the house, though she did do a lot with the church and the woman's club, so I would rate her as successful as well. They are both gone now.

My mom was the first woman engineer who worked on the life support systems for astronauts. I was fortunate enough to see most of the shuttle launches as a kid.

My dad is an artist. He made artificial arms and legs. He was the second persons in in the country to make an Utah arm. (First ones that worked off your remaining muscles and moved)

We were not rich but they worked hard and made changes to their professions. I’m proud of them. My mom showed me I could do anything and there were no barriers to being a girl.

My parents? Not by any measure of success I can think of. My father-in-law however was a brilliant scientist with many patents, one of which was a huge money maker for his company as the specific industry it was for required all their suppliers to license the technology from them.

My father very much so. My mother was the typical house wife of that time and successful at that.

My father in law and mother in law were very successful.

By what standards? In ways that matter, I would say my mother was incredibly successful and my father was pretty good too. Materially.? Middle class.
