Did you get an upgrade when you arrived at the resort?

Tell us about it here!!!!

Please give details...dates, resort, type of upgrade, etc.:D

When we were there last month, we got an upgrade at All-Star Music (I know this isn't as big a deal as some!) Anyway, we were put in a preferred location, even though we hadn't paid for one. It was a great room, we loved the location, and we never asked for an upgrade at checkin or anything. I think it may have been because I waddled up to the desk at 7 months pregnant, but we'll never know for sure. Anyway, it was a nice surprise.

Yep!!! We were booked in a standard view room at AKL in July and got upgraded to a deluxe pool view room. We did not even ask for anything except a king bed if possible. They also sent a very nice autographed picture of Mickey and friends to our room for our kids. They also let us add an extra night on at the discounted rate. Great hotel and staff!!

Our engagement trip we had paid for a lagoon view standard room at the Polynesian and when we checked in they told us that the lagoon view rooms were overbooked through Priceline. So they put the Priceline people in the not so great lagoon view rooms and bumped the people from those rooms over to Tahiti where the good lagoon views are which pushed us out of Tahiti and into Lagoon View Concierge in Hawaii longhouse.

We have gone back to the concierge every year since.

November 1999 - booked a standard view room at Poly for 3 nights & was upgraded to a tahiti lagoon view room at check-in

September 2001 - booked a standard room at Beach Club for 7 nights and was given a standard room at check-in over-looking BCV construction area. When I asked the front desk for a new room, I offered to pay the difference for a lake view. They asked if I would be willing to stay in the given room 1 night and be moved to water view the next day, I agreed. Was given a wonderful first floor room with view of lake and Boardwalk the next day and when the statement arrived at the end of the week - SURPRISE - NO EXTRA CHARGE!

May 2002 - booked a standard room at the Yacht Club and faxed a request of no parking lot view (if possible) and away from elevators and received a room with a pool & partial waterview. Great room!

Maybe because we go off season, we have had this wonderful luck!

July '02 - booked 7 nights at the AKL standard view AP rate of $124 a night. Faxed a request 3 days out and asked for bunk beds; when we arrived we were put in a 3rd floor room on the Zebra Trail with bunk beds and a wonderful view of giraffes, zebras etc. every day. We will never forget that magical week :) Loved the pool too and every staff person was awesome. Bus service excellent as well.:D

My wife and I are leaving next week for The World. We've booked Boardwalk concierge ... when we check in, should we ask if it's possible to get a free upgrade? To a suite or something?

Or am I being greedy...? ;)

Last Dec. 8th. I got an upgrade at The Swan. I paid for a standard room, and got the $129.00 gov't discount. He never mentioned the upgrade, but when I got to my room, I found a balcony with a resort view. I didn't use the balcony that much, however, I got fantastic photos off the balcony.

DH and I stayed at the Grand Floridian in 2000 and were upgraded to a perfect lagoon/MK view dormer room. I faxed a request to the hotel 3-5 days before our trip asking if our request for an upgrade could be accommodated and it was! I was extremely surprised and pleased when we opened the door to the room and could see the castle through the curtains. I'm not sure how often upgrades are given but we probably will never have that type of fortune again, especially now that we own DVC. Although an upgrade to a grand villa would a nice (and totally unexpected) treat!

July '02 - WL - Booked a standard room, then sent in fax for bunkbeds which they do have in standard. When we checked in, we got courtyard view with bunkbeds.

We just returned from a trip 10/18-10/21 at OKW and we had booked a 2BR villa through the disney club. When we arrived they told us that they had no more 2BR villas available so they put us ina 3BR/4Bath grand villa at no charge. It was great!

Dec 2001 booked AKL standard view (upsell @ $129) faxed request for twin beds (just DD and me) and smoking. Checked in and request on system was for non-smoking bunk bed - go figure! Got upgraded to pool view - I was a happy bunny!

(PS - I'm really uncomfortable about the whole upgrading thing coz I believe that you get what you pay for (or can afford, which are two different things! LOL). If the Front Desk care to upgrade me because of overbooking, etc then I'll accept with gratitude but I would NEVER think of being upgraded ahead of time and am too emabarassed to ask at check-in! DH is another story but that's when I walk away!!!!!!!!!)

I have heard a few instances where guests were upgraded from concierge to the Garden Suites. Anything is possible I suppose!:)

What happened to the GF? ;)

Ah, the GF. Sigh....

We've been curious to try the Food Fest for a few years now, and this is our chance! So we decided to book someplace within walking distance.

Last fall, after our cruise, we stayed a couple days at the Beach Club, which we liked (though my wife swore off Stormalong Bay after one trip down that slide -- she was petrified! ). We wanted to try something a little different this time. And the only place available nearby during our week was the Boardwalk -- and the only thing THEY had available was concierge.

But our heart belongs to the Floridian. You never forget your first time :bounce: !!

I thought something was wrong and that was why you were changing your resort. Good to hear that is not the case. Trying something new is always a good thing. I hope you enjoy the concierge--sounds like a nice splurge. Sending you pixie dust for a nice Garden Suite upgrade! ;)

We got upgraded at CBR in March '02 from standard to waterview-we didn't ask. We had one of those great corner rooms with 2 windows that overlooked the water--the view was beautiful!

What is a "garden suite?" It sounds WONDERFUL... Is it the room with a private entrance and a little picket fence? I heard these mentioned once and thought they sounded magical... also expensive... :)

Yes, it is! They are lovely! They are two-level suites located near the Quiet Pool at the BWI. Here are some pix from Deb W's site:

They are $545 to $780/night depending on season.

Our upgrade story: 10/18 - 10/22 AKL.

We received a postcard from DVC in April 2002. If we stayed 3 nights at AKL @ $129 a night and agreed to attend an open house at DVC our 4th night would be free. The $129 rate was for a standard view room. Total cost $444 with tax for 4 nights at AKL. At check in we were informed we had received a complimentary upgrade to a pool view room. I asked how much more for a savanna view room - the CM made a call and said for an additional $10 a night we could be upgraded to savanna view.
We said okay - let's do it.

SURPRISE - when the bill came no additional charges!!

So we got a great savanna view room for 4 nights at $444. That's comes out to about $100 a night - plus tax! What a deal!!

11/9/01-11/15/01 Wilderness Lodge

Had booked a standard room at regular disney club discount--149
per night + tax. (I was dis-ignorant then. This year, thanks to what I've learned, have courtyard this year for 139)

Hotel was booked solid.

Learned after return and reading these boards, we were in a woods view room over the otter pond.

So 1 of 3 trips was a upgrade. We'll see what happens this year!

14 days!!!! to go.
