We're touring Disney like a 3 year old (2TRs in 1!)- UPDATE 5/18 pg. 46

So, now that our vacation was extended a bit, and the major travel arrangements had been settled, it was time to try to enjoy our extra days. We would have two full days at our disposal, with Thursday being the new travel day to Virginia. With that being said, we thought the best way to spend our days was to do a water park on Tuesday and close out our trip at the parks. Since we did Typhoon Lagoon a few days earlier, we thought we would give Blizzard Beach a try (and cross our fingers that our little girl would actually enjoy more activities there).

But first things first – we needed breakfast. Breakfast means Mickey waffles. Our hotel doesn’t have Mickey waffles so we high tailed it out of the hotel and over to Disney property. We ended up at Coronado Springs to eat at their food court in the morning. Once our bellies were full and the craving for waffles shaped in the head of a famous rodent were fulfilled, we were ready to go to a water park!

ry%3D400

Since the water parks open a little later than the regular parks, we didn’t miss much. We got there just after opening. Blizzard Beach has a kiddie corner, I think it was called Tike’s Peak if I remember correctly, and we decided that would be our first stop after claiming some beach chairs. Would our little girl like this kids area better? Would she actually try out any slides?

ry%3D400

Yup, she was fine here. Maybe because she was one of the bigger “tikes” in the area. She was so big that she could pretty much scoot herself down some of the slides. The ones that went a little faster, she wasn’t as much of a fan. Once again, not a big thrill seeker.

We took it as a good sign and a starting point at least. We let her play in the wading area for a bit, giving her some time to get used to everything before we started pushing some of the “bigger girl” slides. We managed to convince her to try it at least once and that one of us would go down right next to her. She agreed, as long as she could get all suited up to make sure she stayed safe. Notice the goggles and swim vest – her idea.

ry%3D400

Maybe having daddy go down the slide next to her wasn’t such a good idea.

ry%3D400

He created quite the splash of water. Oops. I hope she had her mouth closed! But what did she think of the experience?

ry%3D400

She didn’t hate it…..but she wasn’t about to go up and try it again. So it was back to the wading pool for a little while longer. Then we took a walk around the kiddie area and pointed out the fun tube rides……and after much discussion and bargaining (I’m sure some bribery with promises of sweets was involved), she agreed to try it.

Goggles on! Can you see her in position up at the top of the slide in the waiting area?

ry%3D400

And here she goes……

ry%3D400

And what did she think? She gave us a big grin and immediately asked to go again. And again and again. Yup, we spent the next hour watching her go down this same tube slide. Or should we say I spent the time watching her and taking videos and photos while my husband was the one to carry the tube up to the top over and over again. She soon became a pro at posing for pics on the slide.

Here she is mid ride.

ry%3D400

The grin at the bottom of the slide.

ry%3D400

Don’t think that just because she was in the water means that she wasn’t going to strike a pose.

ry%3D400

Once again, here she is in action.

ry%3D400

See the castmember in this pic? He totally got to know our little girl since she went down the slide so many times. He would remind her to wave to me and the camera and ask for hi fives when she was ready. She is normally shy around people she doesn’t know, but she didn’t mind talking to both of the cast members working this ride.

ry%3D400

In case you didn’t get the idea that she liked this ride……

ry%3D400

Looks like Blizzard Beach was a success. Remember those other slides she did earlier with her dad? Well, she was even willing to try those out again and ended up liking that much better the second time around. So we spent the next half hour going down those slides.

I think we would have spent longer there but the afternoon clouds were rolling in for the daily storm. So we took that as our cue to pack up our things and head back to our hotel.

For dinner that night, we had decided on using up our voucher and trying the dinner buffet that was being offered. We went in without expecting much, especially seeing as how the restaurant was almost totally empty. Imagine our surprise when we came away satisfied and stuffed. It was actually one of the better meals from the trip! The spread isn’t as impressive as Boma, but there were a lot of options and all of it was quite good. Maybe this hotel wasn’t as bad as we originally thought. Then it was time for a cookie and dessert back in the room while watching Stacy tv. We had a day at the parks to rest up for.

Her dress and bathing suit are so cute and with those poses she looks like a little model :cutie:

Sounds like a fun day at the waterpark. August is the perfect time to visit those :thumbsup2

What a cute dress!

It sounds like Blizzard Beach was a big success! Those slides look like lots of fun, and I love the poses.

Aww, I'm glad she enjoyed the water slides! It looks like so much fun. She's so precious. :cutie:

I'm glad that your little girl ended up loving that slide! She's too funny, striking a pose wherever she goes!

Yay for the dinner buffet being good! :thumbsup2

Aw, thanks! She has moved on from that cute little pink bathing suit now. She is loving the two pieces now (not a bkini, but the tankini types). She loves her poses. :rotfl:

August was a perfect time for them since it's so warm out and it wasn't too crowded it all.

What a cute dress!

I know! I love that dress on her. I am sad that she has already outgrown it. My best friend got it for her in Mexico and I just needed to get some use out of it.

The slides were definitely a hit with the munchkin. She is already asking to go back to Blizzard Beach and hit up some of the bigger slides!

Aww, I'm glad she enjoyed the water slides! It looks like so much fun. She's so precious. :cutie:

Thanks! I am glad she was enjoying herself there! It would have been a waste of the water parks and more option if she didn't like anything at the water parks.

I'm glad that your little girl ended up loving that slide! She's too funny, striking a pose wherever she goes!

Yay for the dinner buffet being good! :thumbsup2

Seriously, she always is striking a pose. I don't know what to do about that. :confused3

Yup, I am sure you would have been excited for a good dinner buffet as well. My husband was enjoying the prime rib. I was enjoying the pasta and other offerings. And my munchkin seriously had two plates and two different bowls going on at the same time. It was a good meal.

Now that we had spent one of our unexpected extra days over at Blizzard Beach, we decided there was no better way to spend the last extra day than at the parks. Particularly one magical park. Yes, we were off to the Magic Kingdom.

Imagine our surprise when we got past the baggage checkpoint to see the park transformed! When we last visited only a few short days ago, the park looked relatively normal. However, there seemed to have been a little transformation over the weekend….

There seemed to be some giant pumpkins looming about.

ry%3D400

Pumpkin people everywhere!

ry%3D400

I was so excited because I have never seen the Magic Kingdom decorated for anything special before. At least not in person. I definitely was not expecting the Halloween decorations to be up!

ry%3D400

How cute is this Mickey pumpkin? So cute!

ry%3D400

I was tempted to stop and take a picture every few feet, but we had a specific ride to get to. I figured I would be able to take more pictures later on in the day…..maybe. I hoped.

Anyways, we were off to Fantasyland to take ride on the famous elephant. Annie came along for the ride.

ry%3D400

You can’t see her, but my little munchkin was waiting patiently in front of me. You can kind of see her little bitty fingers on the railing. She was plotting out her game plan for a pink or purple Dumbo. She was on a mission.

ry%3D400

Mission accomplished. Oh, and yes, it was a bit sunny out. With our red ticket placed carefully on a giant ear, we were ready for takeoff.

ry%3D400

Remember though, I don’t have a thrill seeker so we had to make sure we were flying low most of the time, not high. I think she sometimes forgets that they all go up at the end of the ride. Or maybe she just blocks it out of her memory.

I knew it was coming though and had my camera ready because I was hoping for a sneak peek of the new construction going on. You could see the tip of the Beast’s castle in the distance when you were walking around Fantasyland, but I heard you could get a better view from a higher vantage point.

ry%3D400

Hmmm…..not quite as good as I was hoping for. Maybe I should try again…..

ry%3D400

Much better! How cool does that look? I can’t wait to see it all finished one day and I don’t know how long I will have to wait. I am dying to eat at the Be Our Guest restaurant.

Once we landed, we were already getting quite hot, so we headed over to another family favorite to cool down a bit. While some may hate it, we always know that it will be on our list for quite some time. There’s no way we can avoid going on Small World with our little one. At least we know that it’s air conditioned in side. Besides, we already hear the song on repeat in our cars often enough that the ride doesn’t faze us.

Although we didn’t expect to get stuck in the ride for 20 minutes…….so yup, get ready for a bunch of Small World photos!

Hello Dutch people!

ry%3D400

Hello Big Ben.

ry%3D400

Some of my people dancing on the little stage. Hi peeps.

ry%3D400

Just a leisurely boat ride away is India. And yes, I do mean leisurely.

ry%3D400

Hello hippo…..I shall wink back at you. I mean, I am just stuck here drifting slowly by at about 0.02 mph in this little boat. I can definitely wink away.

ry%3D400

That smiling sun is reminding us all to make sure to smile at the little small dolls. (Kingdom Keepers anyone?)

ry%3D400

You can see that we were in bumper to bumper traffic. Boat gridlock.

ry%3D400

Eventually we made our way back out into the sweltering heat. Don’t worry, I spared you the other half of our small world ride photos. I mean, really, there is only so much you can do when you are stuck on a boat going at a mind-numbingly slow pace. Seriously though, it’s a good thing we don’t hate the song. Luckily our little girl only asked us why we were going so slow a handful of times.

Now that we were done with the long boat ride, what do you think we ended up doing next? Why yes, that would be wait in another line to meet some characters. We had walked around and around in search of Woody and Jessie, but didn’t know where they had moved that character meet and greet to. It took some sleuthing, but we managed to find them. Our wait ended up being a bit longer because it was only Woody out when we got in line and Jessie would be joining him in a little while. So we stepped aside and hung out with some other families.

We bonded over our love of cowboys and cowgirls. We also ended up swapping stories of how Irene impacted our travel plans. This family had their travel plans uprooted as well. They ended up having to start their vacation a couple days later and said that Disney had been very accommodating with the last minute changes.

Anyways, someone was still quite happy to see Woody and Jessie.

ry%3D400

Apparently Woody said something that made Jessie giggle.

ry%3D400

Then it was Woody’s turn to giggle.

ry%3D400

Finally everyone got their acts together and got ready for the picture.

ry%3D400

Someone is having a tough time saying goodbye to Jessie. Some things haven’t changed.

ry%3D400

Up next:

Epcot, our very first DISmeet, and goodbye to MK

How cool that you got to see MK totally transformed for Halloween! The decorations look awesome!

Great pictures of the Fantasyland expansion! I can't wait to see what it all looks like when it's done.

Isn't it fun how the park seems to transform over night? I love Halloween so I am a big fan of all the decorations :)

I too can't wait to dine in the Beast's castle. I wish they would announce when it's opening because I need to start saving for a trip soon after!

EEK! I love IASW but 20 minutes coul drive ya crazy

Of course the pics with Jessie and Woody are adorable! :)

They decorate for Halloween is August?!?! I know the Halloween parties start early September but like... over two months to Halloween just seems like it's pushing it! Goodness hahaha. However, that's really awesome that you got to see the decorations in person!

I can't wait for the construction to be finished either! AHHH it's making me a little crazy actually hahaha.

Oh... getting stuck on small world is everyone's dream in life, I'm sure. I got stuck on it once too, but definitely not for 20 minutes! Probably more like 7 or 8.

Love the Woody and Jessie photos! So cute. :cutie:

Halloween decorations are a wonderful surprise!

I like IASW. It's cute and reminds me of my childhood.

Yay for Woody and Jessie again!

Love them :) and she looks like such a sweetie... Looks like she had a great time

Hi Ann! :flower3: It literally has been months since I have been on this site, but I have been missing it lately. I checked in yesterday and saw that you were still going with your TR, so that is where I am starting. I just finished your first TR and I started on the first update of the Harry Potter trip. I am loving it so far! I can not wait to go see that park, but I feel like there might not be enough to keep Dylan busy (and justify the money to take him there). How did you feel about that? Was there enough stuff for little kids?

Back to reading! I didn't want to wait to finish before saying hi. :goodvibes

All caught up again. I'm so glad your little one had a blast at BB. She really looks like she is enjoying herself!

Glad that dinner was good at the hotel. Bonus, right? Especially when you hadn't planned to be there a few extra days.

Of course you need to end your trip at MK. How great that you got that bonus day in. Looks like you had a blast.

I know! We definitely weren't expecting to see the Halloween decorations. I would have walked around looking at more of them, but it was so hot out, I couldn't handle it.

Me, too! Seeing as my husband is getting "disneyed out" I am hoping we won't have to wait too long before we can see the new expansion in person. I hope the new resaturant has some yummy food.

I am not a huge Halloween fan, but I do love fall. Only it was a bit wierd to see all of the fall stuff out when we were sweating in the August heat.

I am sure you'll make it to eat there soon enough! I heard they already started taking ADRs for the restaurant. I'll have to live vicariously through you gals. And you know our dismeet will be mentioned shortly!

We enjoy IASW too, but it did get a little bit long for us. The air conditioning was a plus, though. :thumbsup2

I didn't even include the picture of her trying to show Jessie her pressed penny with Jessie on it. She loves Jessie and I think she was hoping for a similar interaction as in February. She was so spoiled that trip.

Yeah, I think the Halloween decorations came out the week leading into Labor Day weekend. It was a bit of a shock to see, but I was excited still since I wasn't expecting it. We've never been in the fall before.

I am so excited to see all of the new Fantasyland! Ack! And ride the new Dwarves Mine ride. That will so fun!

Yeah, getting stuck on the ride wasn't too bad since we got a chance to cool off in the AC. The one downside was listening to this one man's phone conversation on the ride - he was trying to arrange something bac home and spent half the ride on the phone. And since I'm nosy, I had to listen in.

Thanks! She loves her characters.

you know what it's like to see the characters out and about!

Thanks! She definitely is in her happy place when we are at Disney. I am afraid we have spoiled her with all of these frequent trips.

Hi friend!!!! yes, this TR has taken me an obnoxiously long time to finish. Almost there, though! I am so glad that you came back to read it! I can't remember if Dylan is more of a thrill seeker, but there was definitely stuff to keep the little ones occupied. I totally loved the HP part. The rest of the parks though were a little lacing. Seussland was okay though. Cute and she definitely enjoyed it. i'm such a huge HP fan that the price was worth it to me. I don't know that I'd go back all the time - definitely needs some updating in other areas of the park.

Hi again! Our random FB convos make me happy too. :flower3:

Hi!!! I am so far behind with your TR, but everytime I seem to log on to do something, things are running slow. Or I get pulled away. I figured I would try to wrap this sucker up before our next trip and then i can get all caught up on people's TRs.

Yes, dinner was a nice little treat. We managed to make the best of our few extra little days.

Such a fun breakfast at Garden Grove! I don't see that place often on TRs.

I think I'd be hanging out with your DD in the shallow end of the wave pool too! I hate being knocked over by waves because I feel so out of control!

Whoa, what a change in plans with the postponed flight! I think that'd be so fun to extend a vacation last minute too, but I think I'd be so panicked about things like work and the logistics of a hotel. You guys handled it well though! Yay for the free parking and the complimentary meal. Those things make it a little sweeter. Having a rental car must have made it a lot easier what with jumping over to different resorts for meals and fun! I missed having our own car at our disposal during this last week. Howard and I had to depend on my dad dropping us off and picking us up (he didn't want us to spend $16 each for round trip reservations on the resort shuttle).

Awww, what cute pics on the water slide! That tube ride looks like it's made perfectly for someone DD's age! Love the kid-sized fun that's provided!

Eager to hear about your DIS meet! Hate that we'll be missing out a potential DIS meet AGAIN!

Hi Rachel! So happy to see you here again! Um, I was so behind on everything that I had no idea you even were going back to Disney last week! :confused3

Yes, I definitely tend to hang out at the shallow end of the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon. Either that or I have to be far enough in that I won't get knocked around by the massive wave.

Yes, the extended vacation ended up working out in the long run, but it was definitely stressful there. I didn't even mention the rest of the traveling woes we had (concerning how we were going to get back from DC). I was so stressed about missing work since I recently made a move and was still pretty new in that department.

Due to her good times on the little tube ride, she has said she wants to try out the big ones....we'll see how that goes. :rolleyes1

I know right? I have to check in to see how your wedding plans are going too, but I am bummed we are missing each other once again. This is probably our last chance to travel outside the school year calendar. We might be able to squeeze out another trip but pretty soon, she'll be in school for reals....and we'll have to battle the school crowds.

Midday was fast approaching and it was definitely getting hot out so we decided it was time to park hop on over to Epcot. We wanted to try to come back in time to catch the nighttime festivities one last time before we left the next day. Our tummies were also rumbling and telling us that lunchtime was fast approaching. So we hopped on the monorail and made our way over to Epcot. We didn’t have any concrete meal plans for lunch, but there are always so many food options at Epcot that we knew we would find something good.

However, lunch had to wait just a few minutes because we came across a friend…..see the blur? That’s our munchkin running over to Daisy.

ry%3D400

We lucked out in that there wasn’t too much of a wait for Daisy. We barely had time to pin trade with the cast member that was in the area with a big pin board. We just managed to peek at the board and make a quick decision on whether or not to trade a pin when it was our turn to see Daisy. Of course this female duck got a huge hug.

ry%3D400

Along with a little nose to beak nuzzling.

ry%3D400

Our little girl is always happy to meet a fellow friend.

ry%3D400

We said good bye to Daisy Duck and made our way into the park. At this point in time I was also doing a bit of texting with a fellow Diser. Since we had our trip extended by a few days, we discovered that we overlapped with a lovely family here on the Disboards. They were just starting their trip and happened to be in Epcot on this particular day. So we did quite a bit of texting to see if we could finagle an impromptu Dismeet. Do you want to know who these lovely people were?

Well, I think many of you will know them as the lovely ladies of some popular TRs. I was hoping to meet up with Dawnbu and PrincessCaitlin (and the men they were traveling with on that trip). I sent them a text to say we were grabbing some lunch over at Sunshine Seasons but I can’t remember where they were at that point (obviously not in the general vicinity) so I figured I’d check back after we finished eating.

Sunshine seasons – always gets two thumbs up from me. I feel like there is always so much to choose from and it’s always good. I think we went with something from the asian section this time around. I am thinking we had some friend rice and some sort of chicken entrée.

Anyways, while we ate, we decided we would go on Living with the Land since we were in the pavilion. Also…..we decided to grab some FPs for Soarin’ for all THREE of us. Yup, my scaredy cat little girl was asking to go on Soarin.’ Do you want to know why? That would be thanks to Stacy tv and the Disney resort channel. Yup, even though we were off property, we were able to get that fabulous channel and our girl was addicted to it. From watching it on repeat, she decided that she wanted to try Soarin’ if she was tall enough. We’ll see how that goes in a little while……

So to pass the time until our FP window came up, we went to check out all the fresh fruits and veggies growing in the Land. One mission for my next trip is to try a salad at Sunshine Seasons so I can get a mickey shaped cucumber. I hear that you can get them there – is that true? Anyone have one? My sister is on a mission to eat something Mickey shaped and she isn’t counting Mickey bars on her list.

After our adventure in the Land, we still had some time to kill so we headed over to the Seas with Nemo. It’s always fun to walk around and look at the aquarium. You never know what you might find in that large tank.

ry%3D400

Annie was enjoying the area as well, especially the waiting area for Turtle Talk with Crush.

ry%3D400

As always, the show was entertaining and a good time. I always find myself laughing and enjoying myself in there, no matter how many times I have seen the show. Once that show let out, it was time to head back to the Land to take a flight!!!! We were so excited. This would be our little girl’s first “big girl” ride. First though, we needed to pass the ruler test.

The cast member led us over to the ruler…..had her stand up next to it….and she just cleared it. Literally. She just made it. By thismuch. Yup, thank goodness for shoes! We made it into the loading area! See?

ry%3D400

She was so excited. She had no idea what she was in for. We tried to downplay a lot of the “action” and before we knew it, we were buckling up. We ended up in the front row, too, which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. Normally, I love being up front because you don’t have any feet hanging down in front of you. However, knowing my little girls temperament, I knew that this would mean that we go up higher and we all know how she deals with heights. I can tell you that she looked mighty tiny in that seat. My husband and I both put our arms in front of her like extra seat belts.

And then…..we were up and away! And I had a death grip on my arm. Someone was terrified. I was proud of her though. She didn’t scream or cry, but she stuck it out. We kind of talked (whispered) to her the whole time to try to make it more fun and not as scary, pointing things out, but you could tell she was scared. She made it though and we soon touched back down. Her response when we asked her if she liked it and wanted to do it again?

“no, maybe when I am 5 or 6 years old”

Oh well, at least we got in one “big girl” ride. She was still a little nervous from the ride, but I knew what was going to cheer her up.

ry%3D400

Yup, a big cuddly bear will always cheer her up.

ry%3D400

I checked in again with Dawnbu and figured they were a few countries ahead of us in the World Showcase. Hopefully we would be able to catch up with them soon before we headed back over to MK.

We also tried to get our annual shot in Italy with the munchkin.

ry%3D400

But apparently someone wasn’t having it. Oh well, we got it in February, so that should count for the year, right?

Anyways, we went from country to country, coloring the little Duffy bear and then it happened! My very first official Dismeet! I had an unofficial meet once, but never a something planned like this. We were in America coloring at the Kidcot station when we saw the two pretty ladies making their way to us. I was so nervous too, because it was my first meet. It’s just weird because you feel like you know them via the TRs and FB but you’ve never actually met in person. I have to say that they are just lovely people in person. So pretty and sweet! It was a great first Dismeet. Unfortunately, we never got a picture! I was too nervous I think to remember that. We discussed a few other things and meet the guys in the party after a bit and then parted ways. Dawnbu had a delish looking funnel cake calling her name and I felt like we were keeping her from enjoying it. Plus, our little girl was doing her best at ignoring the newcomers. She definitely gets shy around people she doesn’t know (unless you are a Disney character).

So after a successful meetup, we continued on our way around the World Showcase. It was nice because we could relax a bit and just wander around as we made our way back over to Future World. Of course we stopped for a pic or two.

ry%3D400

Want to see what face our girl was making? Yup, she’s being silly.

ry%3D400

Before we knew it, the skies were getting dark and we were back over at the MK.

ry%3D400

I think I took photos of the same decorations……

ry%3D400

Hi Mayor Pumpkin!

ry%3D400

Whatcha cookin’ up over there Chef Pumpkin?

ry%3D400

We had time for one last ride and let our little girl pick it. And she picked…..

ry%3D400

Surprise, surprise. It’s a Small World. She loves it though, what can I say?

ry%3D400

We found seats and were able to catch the Main Street Electrical Parade while snacking on some food. I have so many other pics of this parade that I didn’t take any this time around. However, we as were making our way to watch Wishes, our little girl passed out. So I had to make the ultimate sacrifice and leave the park before Wishes. Gasp! I know, I love it, but I figured it had been a long few days. We would be able to beat the crowds out of the park and let our little girl sleep a bit.

I was able to see some of the show from the Ticket and Transportation Center though.

I know it’s not the same, but still makes me happy. Well, not that night since I was a bit sad that we were leaving. But it’s just a magical show. So pretty too!

So there ends our extended August trip (at least the Disney portion anyways). I’ll probably do one last update with my top fave moments of the Disney trips from 2011. Thanks for sticking around for my super slow TR! Hope you all enjoyed it.

Wow, someone was up early today!!

I'm glad to see that your little one braved Soarin - and enjoyed it enough to return sometime in the not-so-near future!

I'm sad to see your TR starting to come to a close! It sounds like it really was a great trip! :goodvibes

Haha, no I was up all night for work. It was a slow night so I had time to update. Sadly, that tends to be when half of my updates occur and hence why I am sometimes all discombobulated in them.

Yes, we are crossing our fingers that she will brave it this upcoming trip. But we'll see. :rolleyes1

Well, it was like the neverending TR since I didn't update as frequently as many people do. I will still do a wrap-up of my fave moments or things though.

Hope your new job is working out nicely!
