Were there any specials in Jan 2006?

SIL is looking to go to WDW near the end of Jan '07 to see her college DD in a cheer competition. I told her I would look for specials. She will most likely book a room with AAA as soon as rates are released. But I was wondering if WDW ran any specials ( free dining or reduced rates) last Jan '06 that we may want to keep our eyes open for a repeat in 2007.

Thanks

from certain dates in jan-mar they ran free upgrade on tickets (buy a base ticket and get a water park and more ticket with hopping). Also a slight room discount, we had booked a standard at POR and with the discount had a preferred room for free. Our overall savings was about $500. It was supposed to be blacked out for Martin Luther King weekend, but we checked in on Jan 13th and MLK was that Monday and we got the discount for all nights, so, I don't know when the black out actually started. Oh and the discount was released Nov1st.

Thank you! I think she is planning on the last week of Jan so MLK weekend won't be a problem if they black that out.

FYI---We got the same kind of discount, but we stayed at ASMovies...I think my savings was a little under $300. I was able to book it a few days before NOV 1st, so you might want to start checking here mid-OCT just to make sure you don't miss a code.

I am also going to WDW at the end of January. I read about the ticket upgrade for Jan. 2006 in an earlier post. I'm wondering, if I buy base tickets now and activate them when we get there in January, will they automatically upgrade them? Did they also annouce the upgraded ticket offer in November or just the room upgrade? I want to try to save a few dollars by buying the tickets in advance, but don't want to miss out on the upgrade offer, which would save our family of 11 a bundle. Thanks.

The code they did last JAN wasn't automatic. You had to KNOW about the code and call in to have it applied to your reservation. I found out only because I was reading DISboards. I had already reserved a package, but was able to apply the code to my reservation to get the savings.

Oh!!! We're staying at BCV through a DVC member, no package involved. I don't think DVC members and guests would be excluded from redeeming the code. If it's a code not an offer, how would that work when staying at a DVC? And, how long before January did the code come out? What's my best plan? To buy tickets through WDW's website and somehow link them to our reservation? :confused3

Thanks for any help you can give.

Does anyone remember what date the code was good for? We will be there the 1st week of Jan.

we arrived on the 2nd of Jan o6 and we were able use this offer.

If you are staying at DVC, I don't think last years code would have worked as I think it was for a package - room and tickets together. I don't think I've ever seen a discount on tickets alone other than the advance purchase discount or buying them from a ticket broker like TicketMania.

Yeah...I think this is right. The discount was for a package...we got the park hoppers free along with a slight room discount on our MYW package. The discount was out at the very end of OCT 06. Can't remember the exact dates included, but I know it ran from JAN into FEB at least....maybe even part of March? Some friends of mine were there the week of Mardi Gras and were able to get the discount---that was the week of FEB 28th.

dizplanner is correct - "they" absolutely would, will and do exclude DVC members and DVC point-renters from redeeming codes. ALL recent (2005-2006) deals have been parts of packages: Room reservation AND ticket purchase (the same ticket for each person on your reservation).

No. As stated above, the promotions require the purchase of entire packages. Even if you were staying in a regular Disney resort, if you purchase your tickets separately from your room reservation, they will NOT upgrade your previously-purchased tickets to what the package includes

There was an AP discounted room-only rate last January (I used it at AKL). It was during the brief run of the Best Rates program (I think that's what it was called). Of course, that wouldn't help someone staying DVC on points either, but I thought I should mention it in case anyone was considering a regular resort and had an AP.

You definitely can't do this. Any code offer will be either for a room only discount or for a package. That being said. Why would you want to buy the tickets so far in advance? I guess if you fear an increase between now and say November when the codes will most like be released for your travel time. You would definitely do better with any kind of ticket upgrade through a discount code than through a pre-trip purchase. If they offer the same discount, be aware that you can add the non-expiring option to your base tickets (which will then be upgraded to a hopper and water parks for free). This will allow you to have the free options on more tickets that you can use on a future trip. Of course that is assuming you won't be using a 10 day ticket while on the trip in January! Good luck and happy planning.
