We're Still Hungry! A DDW July Getaway - 8/5 Complete!

We'd already cancelled Artist Point at this point in the trip (meaning our last night had no plans), and my mom commented to Harvey that we'd love to come back on the last night of our trip. He sent a friendly manager over, who made a booking for us before we left. :wizard:

That is so awesome that he was willing and able to do that for you and your mom. Hope it went as well as this night did for you! Looking forward to that review.

Aha! One mystery solved. You dined at Narcoossee's twice! :thumbsup2

I think they must have changed the dessert menu since we were there in May, because DD2 would have been all over that Baked Chocolate Mousse. :lmao:

Anyway, your pictures are fantastic as usual. You really should consider a career in food photography. Or maybe food critic? Or maybe both? ;)

Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings! :thumbsup2

It was a really nice gesture. However, we didn't make it to Narcoossee's on the last night.

I still had to include that experience in my review, as it's an important detail in the overall "story". ;)

Nope - unfortunately, the mystery isn't completely solved. Our intention was to go to Narcoossee's again, but that didn't end up happening. :confused3 If we had gone back, I'm sure my mom would've ordered the chocolate mousse again - it was good enough to enjoy twice in one trip! :thumbsup2

Thanks so much for the pic compliment! It would be so fun being a food photographer and/or critic. And it would give me an excuse to invest in a better camera, like a DSLR (meaning I wouldn't have any more issues with my point-and-shoot). :cutie:

You can take fantastic pictures like that with a point-and-shoot??? Wow, you really are a great photographer, Donald! :thumbsup2

And so no repeat visit to Narcoossee's after all??? You have really got me stumped with this one. :confused3 :upsidedow

Thanks so much! I try very hard with my photos (since the better they are, the more fun it is to look back at them :thumbsup2).

And don't worry, you're supposed to be stumped! I want you to experience the twists, turns, and surprises as we experienced them. :wizard:

Ok, first of all, I was just thinking about how the last half of your meal went at Narcoossees so thank you for reading my mind and posting the update!

Now I'm really wondering where else you ate during your trip. If not Narcoossees for a second time or Artist Point, then what?

It's a surprise. ;)

Wow that whole meal sounds fantastic!

And now I have a confession .....I mentioned I was happy you didn't review Artist Point so I wouldn't be swayed? Sure enough I read what you posted on another thread about it being so wonderful and booked the reservation!

Such power in the words of a twenty year old - you should go into politics!:goodvibes

It was a fantastic meal, and Narcoossee's is now one of the signatures I'm most looking forward to returning to (up there with Artist Point and a few others). :goodvibes

I hope you really enjoy Artist Point! Politics could be interesting, but it can be stressful. Writing restaurant reviews is far more enjoyable (although I guess both rely on the power of words - I hadn't really thought of that before! :thumbsup2).

Those photos of your entrees at Narcoosees are INCREDIBLE! The colors are amazing and I have to say that vegetarian dish really looks like something that I would love to order!

Still keeping the mystery alive I see. ;) So we've eliminated Narcoosees part deux, AP, and the pizza window at Boardwalk! That narrows it down to a turkey leg at MK or a PB&J uncrustable at Contempo Cafe! :rotfl2:

The mystere surrounding DonaldDoleWhip is unfolding...Now I know you are a laddie who is 20?? You are definitely one of our most prolific Dis dining reviewers around and that's a fact that I do know!

Wow, those entrees are utterly gorgeous. Such vibrant colors! Both entrees sound so delicious! Halibut is one of my favorite fish and I'm just drooling over that shot. And that dessert menu...I think I'd have handed it back to the server and said "Yes please." As in, all of it will do! Stoooooooooooop adding to my list, DDW! I'll never, ever get through half the restaurants already on there! :lmao:

And can I just say I LOVE how, despite how often you eat at the world, you still manage to have a great experience at most restaurants? It gets so frustrating when a good percentage of posters insist "nothing is good anymore" while I'm still having a magical time. I'm so hesitant to try new signature restaurants especially because many folks here will swear up and down everything has gone south because of the DDP, but your reviews and plenty others here tell me that's not entirely the case. I'm looking forward to branching out! :thumbsup2

The ravioli dish was great! I had a vegetarian entree at Narcoossee's 2 years ago (it was basically 4 side dishes served in separate quadrants of a plate), and this was much better IMO. ::yes::

Lots of mysteries to reveal over the next few updates. ;) There is a method to my madness, and soon enough it'll make sense. :goodvibes

I also would've been happy to try all of the desserts! :rotfl: Over the years, I've been lucky enough to sample most of the desserts at Narcoossee's, and I honestly think they're all good (of course, I might have my own individual preferences, but that's not a reflection of the dish).

And I agree with you about feeling frustrated by the comments that everything is worse now. To some extent, they're right: prices have gone up, certain ingredients and preparations have disappeared, certain restaurants (CRT) serve more "pre-made" food than they used to, etc. But that's not all there is to the story, and I think the trend isn't completely downward anymore. For example, Yachtsman Steakhouse's food right now is far more creative than it was a few years ago, and I think many signature restaurants have improved over the past few years. Similarly, the "next generation" of table service restaurants (The Wave, Sanaa, Kouzzina, Hacienda, Via Napoli, etc) tries to offer somewhat unique food options (even if execution isn't always perfect). And quick service has seen a ton of positive changes - healthier entrees (grilled salmon at CHH, fresh salads at Contempo), more variety (tandoori, gelato, smoothies, and Mongolian grill at AOA's food court), etc. There are plenty of positives out there - we just have to find them. :)

Oh wow, your entrees look delicious

When I saw the photo of the halibut I was convinced that I would want to order this dish but then I saw the vegetarian option ..... boy it would be a tough choice :goodvibes

And that's just the way it should be. Even though this was a super tough decision (I could've easily gone for the halibut, tuna, salmon, or chicken instead), it was definitely a win-win situation. :thumbsup2

I was frustrated that I was without a laptop for a few days (long story) but maybe not such a bad thing because I came back to BOTH parts of the Narcoosee's review! And a fantastic review at that! I love it when a restaurant can redeem itself. I'm not a vegetarian but your ravioli looks fantastic and I would definitely order that. I've come to enjoy pattypan squash quite a bit over the past few years. I decided to plant some in our garden last year and I think I ended up with about 100 of them and I had to get creative so I'd like to replicate this dish at home!

So I'd read in another review that you'll be able to enjoy the drinks of WDW in May and I had a fabulous idea. We should do a "Dolewhip Drinks Around the World"! :rotfl2: We could have a DIS dining review meet, eat at table service restaurants and enjoy wine and drinks! But then I realized that I will be going on a Disney Med cruise on June 1st so my bank account might come to life and strangle me so that idea went down the tubes. But it was nice in theory, right?

Love the rest of the review! I never would have guessed you would order the Vegetarian dish!

Your mom's dessert sounds scrumptious!!

Well Donald Dole Whip, I am officially ravenous and can not wait for my grandsons to get better at sitting in restaurants, so I can try some of these wonderful meals!! In the mean time, I will live vicariously through the rest of your reviews!!!

Your mom's fish looks like a winner to me. Really Narcoosee's should give you some kind of diner discount for posting those beautiful pictures.

We ate there in May 2011 and weren't impressed at all, but your review has inspired me to give it another try. Also, I noticed that nothing other than the cheesecake is still on the menu that we ordered.

Looking forward to hearing about Narcoosee's Round 2.:thumbsup2

The ravioli dish was great! I loved all the fresh vegetables on the plate, including the pattypan squash - sounds like you definitely have a reason to try making this dish at home. :thumbsup2

And I love your idea in theory! The big problem right now is we don't have a trip planned for May 2013 or later (trip planning will have to wait until I have a work schedule for next summer), but that would be so much fun! And it's so awesome that you're going on a Mediterranean cruise! :goodvibes

Love the rest of the review! I never would have guessed you would order the Vegetarian dish!

The entree was great! I normally don't order vegetarian entrees since they're often too starchy for me, but this was a great balance between pasta and veggies. The chocolate dessert was also delicious - I tried a bite and thought that any chocolate lover would be happy with it. :thumbsup2

I'm so happy that you're enjoying the reviews! When you think they're ready, I think WDW would be a great place to take your grandsons to a few nice meals (since the signature restaurants typically feel very family-friendly). :goodvibes

A discount would be awesome, but for now TIW is good enough. :rotfl:

The menu at Narcoossee's has definitely changed a lot over the last year. I think that's a good thing, since many of the changes make the menu feel slightly more more upscale, IMO. Sadly, we didn't make it back to Narcoossee's on this trip (the ressie ended up getting cancelled), but we're really looking forward to next time. :goodvibes

After getting back from Narcoossee's and watching the fireworks from Contemporary, I entered an extremely deep sleep (since I basically hadn't slept the night before). My original plan was to eat at Art of Animation for breakfast and San Angel Inn for lunch, but I ended up oversleeping and missing breakfast completely. As a result, I pushed back my AoA visit to lunch after cancelling San Angel Inn - SAI is on my list for next time. :goodvibes

I'm taking a brief break from the food to show you some pics of Art of Animation, since I really enjoyed exploring the resort. As many of you know, Art of Animation is themed to four Disney and Disney-Pixar films: Finding Nemo, Cars, The Lion King, and The Little Mermaid. Interestingly enough, The Lion King is my favorite Disney film, and The Little Mermaid is one of my favorites as well (as a Disney geek, you gotta love the film that started the Disney Renaissance!), but neither one of these resort sections is open yet. :( Not a problem - the Nemo and Cars sections were still pretty cool. ::yes::

And now, here are some photos of something that hasn't opened yet - The Lion King wing! During my visit, there was a fence around the whole section, but a certain friendly character was still visible through the fence.

Rafiki! He's welcoming you to Pride Rock (which seems rather off-scale, relative to the size of the characters).

Well, that concludes my brief photo update of Art of Animation. Coming up in the next update - food!
