We're on a waitlist--now what?

We're on a waitlist for the week after Thanksgiving at BWV. What should we do meanwhile to ensure that we have SOMEWHERE to stay?

I know we can try at 7 months out for OKW or WLV, but what about non-DVC resorts? My DH prefers, if we can't get BWV, to stay at YC. (He and I are still in negotiations over this. LOL)

If we do decide to "back up" our waitlist at BWV with reservations at Yacht Club, do we make a cash reservation, and change it to points at some time?? Or do we use our points, and transfer them to BWV if we get it?? <IMG SRC="/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif" alt="confused">

If you use points to reserve at Y&B, they cannot be "converted" for use at BWV later- they will be in reservation status and may only be used at non-DVC resorts. (DVC will give those points to CRO for cash rentals to pay for your reservation at Y&B).
I would make a cash ressie someplace- just so you'll have a reservation- then if there is still no availability at 7 months- make a points reservation at OKW or VWL- and convert that reservation to BWV when the waitlist becomes available to you (and I'm confident it will work!)
As for the waitlist- make sure they know you will automatically accept ANY of your resquested days- otherwise they won't reserve anything unless the entire reservation becomes available at once. Just take 1 day at a time and I'm sure you'll get just what you want. Enjoy!

Doc, I am sssooo glad you feel the BWV will work out for us!! I'm going to tell my DH that "Doc" says so--maybe we can relax a little about this and keep our fingers crossed! Believe me, everyone will hear about it here if/when it happens.

About letting them know we'll accept ANY of those days--I told that to MS (Shontell--very nice), and she said that what they do is note it on the waitlist that we want those 5 days but that we'll take any of those days, and that we prefer "preferred". Does that sound right? Or should we be on some sort of waitlist specifically for each individual day? I mentioned that to her, and she said they can't do that.

Just want to be sure because I am well aware that you can get different stories depending on who you talk to.

Oh, and thanks for the non-DVC reservations info; it's sinking in...I think.

Shontell's advise is right on the mark. Your waitlist should be for the 5 days you want- but that you'll accept the days as they become individually available. That's exactly how it should work. Some people make the mistake- IMHO- of insisting they will only take the whole reservation- which limits the flexibility of MS to find the whole thing. The only "risk" this way would be if you got the 1st 2 days and last 2 days and had to move in between. I have done this same thing several times- and have always ended up with exactly what I wanted.
