Whew, what a long week this has been! With as agrivating as this week as been, no power, no phone, no this no that... we have ALOT to be grateful for! We stayed in Melbourne helping at my mother's Nursing home serving food, cleaning leaks, etc. The noises were terrifying, we took some amazing videos of the winds. The technology they have today is incredible, we saw on the news that a band was coming with pockets of 100+ winds in 10 minutes, walked to the outside corridor and to the second sure enough it whipped up. Wow!
As I drove around my neighborhood and town Sunday afternoon I can't tell you how many prays I said. As I pulled into the street that leads to our home we saw trees down on homes, roofs fallen apart, etc... my nerves were shot, but thankfully the only damage we have is all our huge trees fall blocking the drive and door. We are very grateful for how little we've suffered considering what some of our county is going through.
I'd like to thank the Salvation Army for their wonderful services of ice/water/etc it's helped alot.
We still have no power, I'm posting from my parents home (we got back here this afternoon, we also have no water yet.
Any other fellow Brevard posters back online yet, love to hear from you all... sending out my prayers and best wishes to all affected. It's going to be a long time till things are normal again.
Also my employer was closed during my whole work week and this is going to really hurt us, does anyone know where we can go for help with this? Someone suggested FEMA, but does anyone know if they cover this?

I'm glad that you are all safe. We didn't have it nearly as bad as you did.

Our electricity was restored yesterday and our water was never shut off. The sound of the wind was very scary, like a freight train. I don't want to go through that again! We did have severe tree damage, but we are VERY lucky that they didn't fall on the house. I think one of the reasons our power was restored so quickly is that most of the power lines here are underground. Our city did have crews cleaning and picking up debris that people hauled to the curb. We can't take care of the trees ourselves, but already had one estimate for $800 to clean up and cut branches on two trees. I have called a few other companies for estimates, but no one has returned my call yet. I'm sure they are swamped with work and it will probably be a while before we can get the mess taken care of. One of our friends returned to his home to find the inside of his house flooded. They were in the process of getting estimates to get their roof replaced and then the storm hit.

My SIL is in DeLand and they have a hole in their roof and lost several tiles, water in their house, she wasn't able to leave her house the day after the storm due to the downed power lines, many trees were uprooted, no power, etc. There is an oak tree on her property that is about 200 yrs. old which took a beating during Charley and now with Frances, she thinks it's not going to survive. They have a gas stove, so they are able to cook and her neighbors are also using it. It's bad...

Our Publix is only selling dry goods/foods, perishable foods will be delivered this Friday. Our refrigerator is almost empty, except for water, Gatorade and condiments. I guess we will be well hydrated! We are lucky though, as we are on our way to recovery.

I truly feel for all those folks whose homes were destroyed and are having to live in horrible conditions now.

Try contacting the United Way, FEMA, and just ask if there is any form of assistance for you and your family.

Hang in there and good luck. I hope that things get back to normal as quickly as possible.

I talked to a close friend last night who lives in Brevard County. They still don't have power, but the damage isn't too bad. A few shingles were down, shutters down, lost a grapefruit tree and lots of debris..........but they're thankful.

My folks are OK. They're adding the Frances damage to the Charley damage list. They're waiting for the claims adjustor. Otherwise, they're fine. I hope everyone else is, too.

we havent heard from MIL yet telling us how her Barefoot Bay house did

What a harrowing nightmare. So good to hear all the FL DIS'ers checking in. Continued good wishes are with you all, remaining in our prayers.

I'm doing fine as well. Considering some of the damage that I've been seeing on news broadcasts of West Palm Beach, and places higher, I'm pretty lucky. The only damage here was a tree that got uprooted onto its side in the back porch, and the screen that I had covering my back porch got a couple of holes. :D

The only piece of bad luck was that I had to suffer without power for 2 days. Yikes!!! :earseek: But, by Monday morning, the electricity came back on, and things are starting to return to normal. The grocery stores are starting to replenish their supplies as well. I even have phone service!!!

Considering the fact that I'm still recuperating from "Frances the Snail" ;) , I DO NOT want Ivan "the Terrible" ;) to show up here!!!!!!!! Go float around in the Gulf of Mexico and fizzle out!!!! You're NOT welcome here!!!!!!!!!

Yes it is called Disaster Unemployment. It may be issued through the state unemployment office and supported by the US Department of Labor. http://www.fema.gov/rrr/inassist.shtm

**EDITED to add**

http://www.hurricanefrancesrelief.com/ the number for Disaster Unemployment is listed there: 1-800-204-2418

Hope that helps

Debbie
