We are travelling to Florida at Easter and are so undecided as to what to do about park tickets. My son will be 5 by the time we travel and are wondering if all the Universal and Disney parks are suitable and is it worth booking the tickets here or wait until we get there. I am having so much mixed information I am getting really confused as what to do. Also while I was on this site last week I found a site called mouse something and can't seem to find the address now cananyone help, sorry I am a bit vauge.
Thanks

Hi Helen,
To know which parks you do or do not want to visit, you need to know what those parks have to offer and you can check out all the information on the parks by getting a good guide book, looking at the fixed park info we have at www.wdwinfo.com and the official sites :-

Walt Disney World is at the following:

Universal Studios -

Can I ask some questions so we can help you better? Is it just two of you and your son and how long are you in Orlando for?

The first couple of times we went and our sons were small, we made the Disney parks and Sea World our priority with plans to visit Universal if we had time - we didn't make it to Universal!! But we took them when they were older and I'm pleased we did as I feel that being older they appreciated the Universal park, and then parks when Islands Of Adventure opened, more.

The site you mentioned, could it be mousesavers? You'll find it on www.mousesavers.com

Hi Helen

 ~Welcome to the UKDis~

If this is your first visit - and from your post I assume it is, then have you invested in a decent guide book? Simon Veness who is also a Moderator here on the Dis is the Author of A Brit's Guide to Orlando and WDW - I dont think you'll find a better book to help you with planning your holiday. Also The Unofficial Guide is excellent too.

As Shirley says - take a look round the fixed info we have here and then post any questions or queries you have - you'll get all the advice and help you'll need from the great group of people here :D

One tip.....start a new thread for each different topic, that way nothing will get overlooked for you :)

Have fun and hope to see more of you :D

Hi Helen,

We have 3 young boys (aged 2, 4 & 6) and have been visiting Florida every year for the past 4 years and the kids all LOVE IT. I would recommend Universal Islands of Adventure for young children even though a lot of people say it's for older ones. My 4 & 6 yr old are absolutely Spiderman & Hulk crazy and it was like a dream come true for my little Spideyfan to meet his hero (unfortunately there is no Hulk but I'm hoping this will change when the new Hulk film is released this year!!). I'd do both Universal and Disney (esp Magic Kingdom) because it really is fantastic for that age (just watch your son's eyes light up when he sees Mickey & friends :) We also loved Blizzard Beach as their is a brilliant kids section he likes splashing about in the water. The only rides my kids weren't fussed about where the Honey I shrunk the kids type of thing (they were scared witless but then saying that my 6 yo is rather sensitive!!)

It really does depend on your 5 yr old and what he likes, as I said before my 6yr old is quite sensitive and a bit wary but my 4 yo just steams in on all the little rollercoasters without batting an eye!!!! We did take them to the local theme park at Drayton Manor before we went just to test them out on what rides they would actually go on.

As Janice mentioned have a look at more websites and pick out what you think he would like and then ask for more info

Good luck

Lisa

how brave is your son generally? For example, my 5 year old is very timid - we had to leave Toy Story on ice and the pantomime because she was too nervous at both (although funnily enough she's quite happy on a roller coaster - it's just things that go 'Boo' that bother her)

There was not much for her at IOA/Universal - she liked Barney at Universal, and at IOA we did the Carosuessel ride, and she would have liked 1 fish 2 fish, but we did the Cat in the Hat first, and that really spooked her, after that, she wouldn't go on anything for a few days.

She will do most things at Disney, but not the Snow White ride in MK - she doesn't like the look of that witch and she is just not interested in going on at all.

Personally, we now stick with all 4 disney parks and Seaworld, and we will try Universal/IOA again later when she is a bit older. There is plenty at the 4 disney parks to keep us all busy, and Seaworld is just brilliant too.
