Ok, it's always been a dream for us, but I just realized while packing today, that it is exactly two months until we move to Florida!!

We are going to be only 10 minutes from Magic Kingdom!!! I can't help but do the happy dance!!!!!!!!

You are so lucky! I wish I could do that which I hope to someday.

We are moving from Monroe, NC. It will be a bit of a change for us. My husband and I both have spent time in colder climates. So we are really looking forward to the warm weather year round. (Here it is Easter and the low will be in the 20s here tonight!!!) It's also a lot more tropical in Florida. We currently live in the Piedmont of NC, but I grew up close to the mountains!

If there's anyone here who can give us any tips on moving and getting settled in the area, please let me know!!!!!

Congrats! I lived in Lakeland for a while, but I HATED the weather. I was thrilled to move back north. It was handy to have the parks close. Good luck with the movie. :thumbsup2

Woohoo! CONGRATULATIONS! :woohoo:
:jumping1:

After you move, be sure to get AP/SPs! It will be SO awesome just to go for one day, and only have to pay for dining, trust me! We do it all the time!
You'll love living here in Florida. The weather is nice, of course (although a bit rainy sometimes and a certain hurricane season! ;) ).

:beach:

Thank you for your enthusiasm!

We already have annual passes. We are DVC members also and bought our passes when we were down in March. At that time, we thought the job had fallen through and just bought the passes because we are scheduled for another DVC vacation the week before Christmas.

Well, now that the job has come through, I am sure we will be wearing our passes out. I am calling tomorrow to see if we can get an ADR anywhere for the day after we move. I know it's a long shot, but we have to celebrate our first dinner out at Disney!!!!

We are moving June 1st to Orlando. We will be about 40 minutes away from the parks but that's still better than 24 hours like we are now. I can't wait!!

CONGRATULATIONS to you too!!!!!!!! Woohoo!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Where are you moving from?

Thanks! We are moving from Nebraska. My husband is AF and will be a ROTC instructor at UCF. I'm originally from Jacksonville FL so this move is doubly good for us. Close to family and Disney:yay:

The best advice I can give both of you is to avoid I-4 as much as possible! You'll find lots of back ways to get where you need to be, and now that the 429 is open in addition to the 417, I avoid I-4 like the plague!

Also, check to be sure that you aren't moving into an area prone to flooding. It's so dry right now, no one would think to ask, but there are some areas (Buenaventura Lakes comes to mind at the moment) where they have a lot of trouble with standing water when it does rain. Also, a lot of lakefront properties have trouble when there are heavy rains. Just something to keep in mind.

And yes, it is great to just drop by Disney on your lunch hour or after work!

Wow! Yours is a bigger change than ours! My husband is currently going back to school to get a Bachelors of Music. He just contacted UCF for transfer info. It really is "a small world after all!" :goodvibes

Thank you for the advice. My husband is actually there right now making our final decisions on a house. I emailed him this info. Hopefully it will help us finally make up our minds!! (He's going to Epcot tomorrow and I am sooooo jealous!!!!)

Thank you again! I am writing down all the tips I am getting!!

good luck with the househunting. We are going to have to wait until we get there to get something but we've been looking online to get ideas. Luckily we will be close to family if we need somewhere to crash for a bit. Mine in Jax and his mom is in Melbourne. He is currently deployed and won't get home until 2 weeks before the move...if we are lucky. This move was cancelled in early Dec.(same day we found out he was deploying) and then a couple of weeks ago we found out it was back on. So, things are a little crazy right now, but we are excited.

I understand the crazy part!! We were planning on looking at houses while we were down in March, but the move got cancelled too. Now, here we aer trying to do evrything online and now separated. He has the camera and is sending me pics tomorrow. We've decided to rent for the first year so we have time to find a house we really love.

Good lucj with the house hunting to you too! All of our family is still here, so we are pretty much on our own when we move. It's scary and exciting! Luckily, we have friends that just moved to Jacksonville, so that will help too.

I know you will be happy to see your husband soon. Thank him for us for all of the work he does. Our family truly appreciates our armed forces!!

Thank you for that. Yes, I can't wait to have him home.

We are renting also. This will be our last assignment and we will most likely retire in FL but haven't decided for sure where. I guess it depends on where hubby finds a job. Our oldest daughter(17) wants to work for Disney though so she'll probably stay if/when we make our final move.

I agree with the staying off I-4 idea. It can pretty clogged up-rush hour is horrible! You might as well walk to where you're trying to get to. :lmao:

Ok, so my hubby is in FL right now and calls to say he has found a house he loves and knows we will too....only problem. It's not for rent, only purchase. Well, we now have a contract on a house only 15 minutes from Disney. You can even see Disney from the clubhouse in the community!!!

I've got to happy dance about this!!!!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Oh you are soooo lucky!! I am trying to talk DH into moving to FL...not working so well :confused3 We currently live in Nova Scotia, Canada and love disney and also warm weather. I am a teacher so I can work anywhere, it's just a matter of getting my license for the province or state I wanna work. There is also an VIF program for teachers and FL is one of the states it offers. BUT DH is a lawyer and it may be harder for him to get a job in the USA....ummm....I'll keep working on it!! lol

Keep working on him!! I never thought that our dream of moving to FLorida would ever come true. Let alone getting to be so close to the mouse!!!

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!:tink: Here's some pixie dust for you!
