Anyone have an idea where in the Orlando area we should move to. It's just me and my hubby and we are looking for a 2 to 3 bedroom apartment. Ideally we would like to live in walking distance to restaraunts and shops, like the developments we ahve here in Atlanta, but anywhee safe is good. Any ideas?

Wow, moving to WDW a dissers dream! :cloud9:
Make sure you find a place that has a disser's guest room
- we'd all like to come and stay :grouphug:

Do you want to be in orlando or the surrounding areas. if you are okay with a liitle commute look at the carlton arms at winter haven. they look awesome

I'm not exactly sure where you would want to move but congrats on getting to move to Orlando, might want to take a stop at WDW once or twice

Whoo-hoo on your move. :cool1: Wish I could help with suggestions, but I'm just here to congratulate you. (OH, and to ask if you'll have a spare bedroom for us DISers....).

A lot of the apartments in the area are (or have gone) Condo. There are only a handful left that are true apartment complexes. There really is nowhere that I can think of that will be as Grand as the Atlanta Developments that I have seen, but take a look at

Cagan Crossing. It is in Clermont (about 15 minutes from Disney on the backside of the property) off if Hwy 27 at US 192. The apartments are nice, we used to live there as do some of the other Diser's I know. They are in the process of building a Town Center which will have dining and shopping and the main entrance is right across the hwy from a Super Wal-Mart which is nice. The apartments are Nice, but not "luxury" persay.

These are not in a "development" as you are looking for, but Hunters Creek is a hot area. There is a lot right around there that you can get to fairly easily. The Parks at Hunter's Creek (we lived here too), Summit Hunters Creek, Colonial Grand at Hunter's Creek

These are right behind Disney, not really near anything without driving, but they are nice apartments and the area is in a stage of vast development: Alexandria / Parc Vue at Lake Buena Vista

Alexan at Legacy Dunes (we lived here too) are really nice, but I think they are going Condo, they also would require you to drive wherever you are going to.

Anyway, these are all right around Disney, I am not familiar with a whole lot of the Downtown area, I am sure that there are nice options out that way too. I think Hunters Creek would be a great area to start looking. It is a really nice area, not too far away from things and has lots of shopping and dining (you just can't walk to it). Anyway, I am sure others will have suggestions, but this is what I can offer right now. Also, some of these might be going Condo too, I am not sure!

How about Celebration! The town built by Disney. That is my dream. They have apartments and everyone rides around in golf carts and best of all it's practically right across the street from Disney World!!! :sunny:

Most of the Celebration apartments went Condo. I don't know if they even have anymore that are truly apartments. It is something to look into, but I have no names as the ones that I was familiar with in there are no longer apartments.

If you are looking to be walking distance to shops, restuarants, bars, etc, try the Thornton Park, Baldwin Park, or College Park areas of Orlando. They are all walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods close to downtown that are safe, popular, and attractive. Good luck!

I am originally from Florida (Gainesville) and lived in Orlando for two years....before moving to Wash DC.

I recently (in July) moved back to Orlando, and am now regretting my move and in March will be moving back up north.

The only good part of Orlando is Disney, and its the only thing that makes me happy living here. Orlando has changed alot in the past few years, and NOT for the better. Its really gone downhill here.

I dont mean to "rain on your parade" just stating my experience.

NOW.............living arrangements.

I currently live in Hunters Creek.............right on John Young Parkway and 417. I can hop on 417 and be at Disney in like 15 minutes. Im also really close in driving distance to the Airport, 528, and I4.....so its a good location for getting around.

There are plenty of restaurants, and shops here and they are building like two new plazas as well. The residents here are more middle to later aged....some children (a few schools) so its quiet and people are nice. Everything is within driving distance............or a long walk.

There is also a brand new outdoor mall with a great movie theater not too far...called the Loop.

Houses and apartments in the area are pretty inexpensive as well. I have a two bedroom two bathroom apt and pay just over $1000.

But DO NOT......I repeat DO NOT move into Colonial Grand at Hunters Creek Or Colonial Grand at Heather Glenn (where I currently live). Ive had so many issues living here its not even funny.

Check out apartmentratings.com to get reviews of apartments in the area.

I had a house in Celebration before moving to DC......and its not all that great. The houses/apts/condos are some of the most expensive in the area. There is not alot in the town itself...............and there is nothing outside of Celebration other than tourist crap. So its kind of inconvienant for grocery shopping etc. They have added some stores etc....but not enough to really have made a difference.

Downtown and Winter Park are other good areas............with lots of stuff close to you....but they are a bit more pricey areas.

Geeez :confused3 I live in the Cleveland, Ohio area where we have a lake that's Erie, a tower that's Terminal, flooding rains, blinding snowstorms, freezing cold, poor schools, and a high crime rate. Can Orlando be any worse than that?

PS: can I get a frosting here?

Cagan Crossing is very ghetto. We were thinking about moving there because it does look nice from the outside, but a drive through the complex at night will tell a different story. A friend of mine had his rims and tires stolen off of his car while he slept one night last week.
Most of the apt complexes around here have waiting lists so I suggest getting on a list soon. If you live around Kirkman/ Conroy area there is a shopping center and a few restaurants that you can walk to.

I lived in Cagan and had no problems what so ever... I also have a lot of friends that currently live in there. There are 2 sides, one is income restricted, the other is regular apartments and the condos are soon to open. The income restricted side may be a little ghetto, but the regular apartments are nice and I never once even had a noise complaint, but to each their own...

Also if you watch any news at all you will see that the Kirkman/Conroy area (Metrowest location) has had A LOT of crime/ shootings/ Robberies in the past couple of months. I don't even want to use Metrowest as a cut through right now let alone live there. Again though that is my opinion...

Keep the info coming ya'll. We really have no idea where to live so I will be checking out all the suggestions I have gotten. I really appreciate it!

Check out the Windemere and Dr Phillips areas...they are really nice with a ton of restaurants (now known as Restaurant Row) and other shops and things you need.

No ideas, but can I come with? Please? Please?! :)

We moved down here 2 years ago and live in SE Orlando. We live in a community called Avalon Park (www.avalonpark.com) and are very happy here. Although we are about 40 minutes to Disney, we love the location we are in, it is very safe and very family oriented. We have a town center and can walk to the Publix, gas station, dry cleaners, etc. We live in a house but there are also apartments and condos. Good luck in your search!

Oh goodness....are you in a KB home?

Anyways- we have a house in Celebration and one in Independence which is just out past the cast member entrance of Magic Kingdom and love it! You can rent individually owned apartments/townhouses in Celebration! PM me if you have any questions as I'm a title agent in Orlando and know most of the area.
