I'm so excited to move into our new house, we were supposed to be in before Thanksgiving but of course it wasn't ready in time. Better late then never, I guess! Now that the time has finally come I'm starting to freak out a bit and I need some tips.

We moved out of our old house 6 months ago and have been staying with my parents since then while our house was being built. We went to our storage unit last night to load the truck and I'd forgotten how much stuff we have! Ugh! And I thought I got rid of a lot of stuff when we moved. It's amazing after living without it all for this long, I don't even want it back-lol. But on the bright side it'll be like Christmas morning unpacking all our stuff we've forgotten about. ;)

I sorted through a lot of boxes and left some there so we can sell some stuff we don't want/need in the spring. When we packed I marked some boxes with stars so I know it's the more important stuff and to open them first but I still feel like it will take forvever to unpack. I also packed a box with paper plates, napkins, paper towels, toliet paper, cups and plastic forkes and knives for the first couple days.

Dh works in the moving business so he's all casual about it but I'm freaking out. I guess it's easy for him to be mellow about it when I'm the one who will do most of the unpacking. ;) Any tips?

Set up an E-bay account and start SELLING!! And put the $$ towards something fun, like a vacation or something special for the new house. If you have lived without it for 6 months, do you really need it? Especially that knicky-knacky stuff that just takes up space! THis being said, I am a prize-winning packrat, so what do I know?? But learn from my mistakes and bad habits. I headed a community yardsale a few years ago to raise money for a 14 yr old boy who needed special experimental treatment for a inoperable brain tumor. The whole time I was going through my closets/basement/attic I kept asking myself "would I sell this to save my child's life?" More often than not the answer was YES! And I miss none of it!!

The summer of 2002 we (DH and I) made the decision for him to accept a position in Atlanta, GA (we live in NH). The move was to happen in spring 2003 (wanted the kids to finish the school year). From July 2002 until February 2003, with very little effort, I collected almost 30 boxes/bags of stuff from around the house to donate to the Goodwill (didn't feel like dealing with a yard sale again). AGAIN, I miss none of it. (Although we didn't end up moving and I am so glad I didn't give away the snowblower and window air conditioners).

ANYHOW, I wish I had E-bayed a lot of that stuff. Could have made some significant $$ probably. But the point is, you can live without all that stuff. Especially if you haven't missed it for the last six months. BITE THE BULLET and PURGE!...........;) P

Thank you for responding pjlla!

I'll have to look into the Ebay thing, I've never sold anything on there before.

Thanks for the tips!
