Well, we finally did it!

We bought 150 points, which is pefect for just DH and I

However, I'm anticipating the day when nieces, nephews, cousins, etc want to join us, so I'll need more points for bigger accomodations.

What would I do in that case? Could another owner transfer unneeded points into MY account? If so, can you please fill me in on how that works?

You could certainly use points given to you or purchased by other owners. The other alternative is to bank or borrow points from previous or future use years. For example, when we went on the DCL in 2001, we used our 2001 points and borrowed from 2002. Hope this helps

You can find other owners willing to transfer points, though in most cases that I've seen or heard, those totals are relatively low--the odd 3, 7, or 10 points that someone can't use and is willing to give away. Larger amounts of points can be transferred certainly, but you will likely have to pay for them. The transfer is easy enough through MS, though you would have to work out any payment arrangement with the other DVCers on your own.

As byoung said, you can also bank and borrow. It takes some advanced planning but is very feasible. For instance, say you have relatives who want to join you one year. If you plan far enough in advance, you can bank one year's points then combine those with the current year in which you'll visit WDW while also borrowing points from the following year. All total, you'd have 450 points. Here's a hypothetical situation for illustration purposes. Two nieces and a nephew want to join you at WDW in 2008. You bank your 2007 points, borrow from your 2009 total, and add both of those to your 2008 points for a total of 450 points. That many points would easily get you a 2BR suite for an extended stay at any resort during most seasons. Hope this helps.
