We're just bringing clothes and make-up, everything else will be purchased at Walmart.

We decided to wait until we get to FL to get everything such as wipes, water bottles, lotion, and some other stuff because it'll just be much easier. We packed light (mostly carry ons). Someone mentioned there was a Walmart nearby.

What do you think of this idea? We are leaving in 1 day! Yes!

Another question: We will be flying from West Coast a 7 hour trip. I'm not sure if they will feed us so should we pack food to bring on the plane with us?

That actually sounds like a ton of fun.

I would make a list of things you need right down to the specific brand and make sure Walmart carries it first, though!

Keep me updated on this! If you decide you like doing this I might have to try it once, it really does sound like a lot of fun.

No US airline provides free meals in economy class on domestic flights. Sometimes they have snacks available for purchase.

You can always find this information on your airline's website.

There is a Walmart at 535 State Road that is just a few miles from the Wyndham Bonnet Creek resort which is located right on the middle of the Disney properties. This is where we do our shopping when we come to Disney, and it has everything including a Redbox for renting movies. Just don't expect to buy anything fancy there...

No we don't shop at Walmart usually. We're fine with just the basics.

We did this when we went to Disneyland. Made our trip much easier because we didn't have to pack so much stuff. Just our clothes and basics. We also had carry ons at the time.
Then after we got our rental car we went to Target, picked up necessities and snacks and back to our hotel.

Awesome!!! I bet that left room in your suitcase for tons of souvenirs, too! Great idea :cool1:

I've been diverted twice and also have had flight delays. More than once I've been in a situation where all airport restaurant and snack kiosks have been closed. Also, the free airplane snacks are "fun sized," if offered at all.

I always pack snacks when traveling by air. I also pack an empty water bottle and then fill it at a drinking fountain past security to take on the plane. Travel issues and just travel in general is much more tolerable and enjoyable when you're not grouchy from hunger.

As for stopping at Wal-Mart, sounds like a great idea if you don't mind actually taking the time to go during vacation. Be mindful to not overshop, which is so easy to do at Wal-Mart. You may feel obligated to drag it home or end up throwing a lot out. Enjoy your trip!

I had that very same fear flying to Hawaii last summer--I packed frozen peanut butter and jelly sandwiches just in case. I wasn't sure if they would be okay through security--but it was not problem. We didn't end up needing them on the plane as it was delayed a couple of hours--the airline ended up giving us vochures to eat at the airport. However, we did end up eating them for dinner, because since the couple of hours delay--everything in hawaii was closed when we got there.

if you will be checking any luggage i'll pass on a tip we've used-if you have a smaller suitcase that will fit inside a larger one that you will be checking-put it inside with all the packed items. that way if you need extra luggage to bring stuff back you've got it at the ready. might be too late for you to do this now but we've also gotten into the habit of purposely packing stuff to take that's on the borderline of tossing out-some pj's we love that really should have already been tossed, clothes/summer shoes the kids can still wear but won't fit when warmer weather hits around here....then we throw them away before we pack up to come home. we end up with more luggage room AND we finally get rid of some stuff that should really have been tossed long ago.

We don't overshop especially at Walmart. Not my favorite please to go. Lol We're live on a budget even on vacation and try not to spend frivolously. So no overspending for us. We buy trial size stuff, easier to toss. And some snacks for the room.

I LOVE LOVE THIS IDEA. Good for you and enjoy! nice to travel light.

We did carry-on only for our trip to Aulani from NH as well as our recent trip to WDW. We stopped at Target on the way to the resort. Have your list made up ahead so you do not waste vacation time in the store. We also picked up laundry detergent so we could do laundry while lounging by the pool, making for less clothing to pack.

Oh, I was not trying to assume you did. I've just seen many posts on this board over the years of people who are trying to pass off stuff as they're leaving because they had bought way more than they were able to use on their trips. A common one seems to be people who intend to cook more in the room than they actually end up doing.

We do this every trip to disney and we go at least 2x a year by plane. We fly Southwest so we could take more luggage, but we don't want to deal with that much stuff. We take 2 suitcases (there are 4 of us), stroller, car seat, diaper bag, laptop and purse. I do pack a few snacks in the diaper bag, and enough diapers to get through 2 days. DH keeps his medication in his laptop bag (type 1 diabetic). Our suitcases and carseat get checked, which is all clothes. We gate check the stroller. It is very freeing to travel with so little "stuff". We just buy most of our toiletries, sunblock, diapers, food, etc when we get there. We usually go to the Super Target near AKL on 192.

I pack super light anyway so just going with my food, basic toiletries like a toothbrush, and my kindle are really all I need.

But never travel without some granola bars. I've had travel days from hell, such that if I hadn't packed my own food, I would have gone 18 hours between eating anything (except maybe if you count tomato juice as food- since the airline wasn't even giving out pretzels or nuts that day.)

We stopped at Wal-Mart last time we were there because DS7 ended up having an allergic reaction to the sheets at POR and we needed Benadryl. It really wasn't a big deal, and buying Benadryl on vacation didn't really seem like a waste of time. We bought some breakfast stuff and drinks for the room, and looked at the t-shirts and other Disney stuff (fraction of the cost of what was in the parks!). We would totally do what you are thinking with packing light and only buying what we needed for the week. We overbought just by a little, and ended up leaving the extra unopened water bottles and soda/juice with a note for the staff to enjoy it.

We bought breakfast at Great American Bagel in the airport, but the kids had goody bags (we surprised them with the trip 15 minutes before the limo came to pick us up to go to the airport) with snacks too, so we all shared. We had a 2 hour delay before boarding the plane and got moved to a new gate, and we were all starving by the time we got to POR, though, but still had several hours before our Ohana ressie. Not enough time that I wanted them to eat a full meal, but we did end up getting a snack. So, I would definitely recommend bringing some food with you - 7 hours is a pretty long trip and if you factor in delays, it will likely be many hours before you might be able to eat a full meal.

Have fun!!! We want to go back so badly now!!!

I personally wouldn't want to use any of my valuable vacation time buying shampoo.
Our vacation is long. It's not like we're staying for only a few days. We will be landing in the evening so it's not going to use up any of our "vacation" time. As soon as we land, we will have to get our rental, check in and everything. So we will be trying to do everything that evening, not a big deal to us.
