Arrive in Vero on Friday.

Had to stay at Pop Century for 2 nights well we found out what was going on here.

Power is still out all over the place.

The Ocean Grill is NOT gone.

Capt. Hiram's is open for business!!!!!!

The Disney resort looks great. I saw the slide from the road and it does not look like there is anything wrong. You really can't see any damage from the road. Tons of CM's everywhere cleaning things up. We were told they are not opening until Oct. 17.

There must be over 500 power trucks from around the U.S. here in Vero. It's really something to see. They are also passing out water and ice-long lines for both. Gas is still hard to get-long lines.

:wave:

Thanks for the report. We have not been canceled yet but have reservations 10/10-10/15. Hoping they can get things back together by then.

Yes, thanks for the information. We had ressies at VB starting on the 15th of Oct but changed to stay at WDW until the 17th. I hope all is back to normal there (at the resort and the rest of Florida) sooner than later.

Good luck with everything. If setting up a new home is not hard enough....

Glad you arrived safely, and that you are able to get settled in soon. Thanks for the report on the resort.

Thanks for the report. I'm glad you made it safely to Florida, I was wondering how your new home weathered the storm.

Thanks for letting us know what you can see of the resort. How are you folks? Were you able to get into the rental? Power?

It seems a lot of coastal hotels up and down A1A are having similar problems--no visual from the road damage--but lots of unseen damage. Several of the hotels up in the Melbourne area on A1A have had water damage--but cannot tell the source (i.e. roof, surge, or window breakage).

Hopefully, they will get to open sooner.

Good to hear. I am happy that Captian Hiram's. I was so sad when I heard it was ruined. I was hoping that rumor wasn't true. We has such a good meal there in May.

Where are you staying? Or did you just drive over to check things out?

Thank you for the report it sounds like great news !

especially about VB and Captains Hirams, thank you !:rockband: :jumping1: :thewave:

Drove by the resort the other day.

Still looks good. There are giant yellow tubes/chutes hanging from the 4th floor.

CM's everywhere. I hope they are all able to get by while the resort is closed.

DH looked at the Disney boardwalk from Wabasso Beach and he said it looked fine.

Our apartment was great. We have power now.

No phone or cable but we have been using the phone in our vehicle and we should have cable by tomorrow.

Thee are still many traffic lights out or completely blown down all over town. Crews are working around the clock to restore power.

The boil water alert was lifted.

DH is working non-stop and is really tired but I think we'll get through this.

Thanks everyone.

Glad you made it there safely and hope that your power, etc. will be restored soon. Re: VB - I was hoping that the new beach stairs would survive as it seems they really put a lot of work into it this past year.

Thanks so much for the updates.... ((((((hugs))))))) to you.... how are you holding up??? I cant imagine moving down there in between hurricanes, let alone doing in while preggo!

~~~~~~sending energy vibes~~~~~~~~
laurabearz,
Everything seems to be moving along well. I had terrible morning sickness all the way down here, which wasn't fun.
Rita's Italian Ices are helping me stay cool.
We took another drive by the resort today. We had to go to Sebastian to see our real estate agent.
We had lunch at the Italian Grill. Yummy!
Things seem to be getting back to normal. School resumes on Wednesday for Indian River county.
We have reservations at the resort on Halloween so we are anxious to see how everything turns out. I'm sure they had to replace a lot of carpeting, etc.
floridafam, congrats on the pregnancy! I hadn't read that. :)
I'm confused. Did you move down to near VB? Are you keeping your DVC then, too?
lenshanem,
Thanks. Yes, we moved to Vero. We are living in Vero while we build a house in Sebastian.
We are going to keep our DVC. Our kids have already asked a million times when the resort is going to open so we can go there. We will probably take lots of 1 or 2 night trips over to the resort for Halloween, birthdays, other special occasions, etc.
It feels slightly weird living here. There are so many things we love down here but it feels like we are on a really long vacation.
We had to stay in Orlando for a few days while we waited to hear if our apartment complex was damaged. I thought we were going to live at Pop Century for a month.
We really enjoyed Pop Century, by the way. The rooms were new and clean, the food court was awesome. Definately worth a trip.
Ok, that explains a lot. I was wondering also (I guess I missed the post.) So you are no longer our Michigan neighbors. I would get out of here too, but the weather is nicer back in Michigan right now! (come this winter I will be dying to come visit you though!)
Congrats on the pregnany. I was really sick with both of mine too. However with the second pregnacy my Dr. took pitty on me and prescribed a very pricey but wonderful medication called Zofran. It really made things better. (and now that I have my wonderful little baby it was all worth it!)
Now you really are a Florida Family and not just dreaming Michiganders!
Good luck, with everything!
