So today, DF comes to me, wide eyed and excited, because he'd had an idea of something he wants for the wedding...

This is great! He never shows input!

His great idea however, is that for his wedding meal he wants a seafood platter...

I understand why, seafood platters are his most favourite meal out of anything, so surely an event as big as his wedding, warrants that he should be eating a seafood platter for dinner...

Would it look weird to have a large selection of seafood on the head table, while all the other guests are having surf and turf? :confused3 There's no way we could afford to feed everyone seafood platters, plus I'm sure we'll have several guests that don't eat seafood...

I'm stumped on this one, I can't just tell him no, as this is the first thing he's suggested for the wedding ever! :rotfl:

I don't really want to change the whole plan to buffet, but that's the only way I can see this working at the moment...

What other suggestions do you have?

Perhaps have it as your pre-reception food? You wouldn't have to have loads but it might be enough to satisfy the groom's seafood craving!

Also if you had to have it just for you two then I would say go for it and forget what everyone else thinks as its your day and you're paying for it!

you CAN do whatever the heck you want, but i agree that seafood could be a budget buster and that it would be odd to have a vastly dfferent meal in front of your guests. surely he can understand that awkwardness. having an appetizer or soemthing somewhere wth a nod to his love for seafood is an option, as would be doing something seafood for maybe a rehearsal dinner? or perhaps that could be the next special lunch or dinner you all have together alone somewhere on property?

worse come to worse, try to price out seafood platters for all and let the price scare him!!

I've seen other weddings where the bride and groom each ordered a different meal to eat for themselves and it wasn't a big deal. It's especially easy with a plated meal—it's not like there's gonna be a seafood station at the buffet that no one is allowed to go to but the groom! :lmao: And I'll wager no one is even going to notice if the groom is served a plate of food that looks different from what everyone else is getting.

I mean, if he were a vegetarian, no one would stand up and shout, "Hey, why does HE get a vegetable platter while I'm stuck with this lousy filet mignon?!!" So maybe he's a pescatarian! :teeth:

I agree with Carrie- it's totally not a big deal especially if you're having a plated meal. DH and I both had custom plates at our reception as did a few of our guests with dietary restrictions. We offered Filet and lobster, a seafood platter (chilean sea bass, scallops, and shrimp), and chicken. I had Lobster, scallops and shrimp and Jim had Filet w/ scallops and shrimp. No one knew and no one cared. It was our day and my WP wanted to be sure we got what we wanted. Also, just so you know, we had the "sleeping beauty a la carte menu" and there wasn't a big price difference for us b/w the S&T and Seafood platter. Have what you want- it's your day! HTH! :thumbsup2
