Hey all! We've got a trip in the works and after much debate, have (may have) decided not to rent a golf cart or bikes. (not my decision, hence why I'm here lol.)

We wanted to leave early enough to catch the MK welcome show, which as I understand it, we need to be at the boat dock before the internal bus system starts to run

DH seems to be under the assumption that walking from the cabins to the boat launch won't be a problem followed by a full day of walking in the park. Has anyone ever walked it before? Do you think we'd be better off with a cart or should i just make a sign for when we're walking that reads "Settlement or bust" hoping some poor souls take pity on us? lol

I think it really depends on you guys and your fitness level and how much you walk usually. Do you tend to walk for transportation regularly? I just looked at my recorded runs around the Fort and I'd estimate the walk from the cabins to the Settlement at right around a mile. So I think it comes down to whether that seems like a lot or a little to you, and you'd want to figure what your average walking pace is so you know what time to leave.

All that said, I feel like internal busses are running in time for rope drop. DH and I both remember a bus going by us when walking over to the boat from the 400 loop last month. Can anyone confirm bus times? Oh Rusty???

No need to walk, the internal bus system will be running to get you to the Marina for the early launch. Woul would take the purple bus route to the Marina. The internal bus system I believe runs from 7am to 2am daily.

Bus Map

Walking from the cabins to the Marina will easilly be a good 10-15 minute walk at a somewhat brisk pace when you finally see it.

I agree with Kristin and J. The internal buses run early in the morning to get folks to rope drops at all parks. That being said, they may not run as frequently as they do during the mid-day times.

IMO getting a cart just to get to either end of the Fort for external transportation is a waste of money.

You can request cabin loop 2100 or 2200 in MDE if you wish because they are the closest cabin loops to the Settlement area. We have posters ask in various ways about the boats and rope drop at MK. Some want to just be there at rope drop. On the pier the big boat comes in on the left side about 30-40 minutes before rope drop and will get you there in time.

Some folks want to be at the FRONT of the line at rope drop which means the big boat/left side won't cut it. So on the pier the right side has the small boats (think Jungle Cruise size) that run to WL and Contemp and back to Fort. They start much earlier (like 630am) - hop on one of those, ride to the Contemp, and walk to the MK gate (which we've done). And internal buses are running at that time.

The amount of walking expended or saved between cabin and dock is small compared to the amount of walking you'll do all day. And internal buses don't run often enough for some Type A people. But if it's not raining or freezing or boiling outside, walking is fine.

From the entrance of loop 2100 or 2200 I would say 15 minutes like jbrostek said.

PS - just got back from the Fort 2 weeks ago and walked all over the place. From Outpost to Settlement and all over ('course, it was January not July). But it's level, shaded mostly, and if you hear a bus headed in your direction coming, hustle to the nearest bus stop and hop on. ;)

Don't forget, the Yellow bus continues from Settlement to WL and then a bus to MK leaves from the same WL stop.

Hello BamaEd, :wave2:, did the Celebration Marathon on Sunday and it was great. Only around 2500 total for half and full so no bumping.

2:45 for first half with 12yo DGS, waited for 45 minutes for DD to arrive since she was walking with a friend and DW then continued on with DD for her first marathon finish.

No McFlurry since no McD's. :sad1:

McFlurry John

Total of 106 pavement pounding miles for month of January. :woohoo:

:offtopic: We goin' off topic for a moment....

John, I laughed out loud in amazement when I read your post. I know that once you get into shape for Halves and Wholes and anything else, you want to keep it going. So it had a Half too? With gas so cheap I could have come down again had I known....

I've got a local Half later this month available (haven't signed up yet, done it 5-6 times in the past, will wait till week before and only sign up if weather looks good) and a Half in early March (paid for and committed) in my hometown.

Were there any fast food places along your Celebration route? A BK, Wendys, or even a Subway? And inquiring minds want to know: on your McFlurry - do you top it with M&M's or Oreo bits?

Wish I could have talked with you. May have to try to convince DW to let me go do the Disney again next year if you will be there... I would make it a point to come find you...:cool1:

Bama Ed would choose M&M's on his McFlurry (I'm talking about myself in the 3rd person like Charles Barkely does) (You can't go wrong with chocolate).

(PS for John) - ONLY 106 miles for the month of January? You mean you can't find a race for this Saturday???????? (Jan 31)

:offtopic: is now TURNED OFF

For our OP,

Kinda curious why you thought the internal buses wouldn't be running to make rope drop at MK. There would be riots if FW folks couldn't get to the parks via Disney Transportation in some way for rope drop.....

When are you going to be back at the Fort?

Bama Ed

PS - please forgive John and me for have a side conversation in your thread. He has more energy than the Energizer Bunny.

Joining the off topic, but agreeing with Bama ed, John has more energy then the bunny. Congrats john on another finish. I am still not running but am walking. I am still considering the dr.

Thread hijacks like days of old...

Congrats John, you're a machine!

And Ed...watch out, sounds like you're becoming a little bit of an addict! Have you checked out Half Fanatics?

Take good care Garneska! Don't push too much too soon.

Thanks everyone!!

I was curious because we were going to attempt to be first for rope drop lol. So we've got it basically timed out to leaving our cabin 6/615 and taking the boat over to the contemp to get a breakfast-to-go and eating it while staking our claim. Thats the time I was really worried about lol, not at like a reasonable 7am time.

Honestly I think DH will be more pleased to hear that he was right as opposed to how short the walk will be :lmao:

We're going back Feb 9-11 and put in a request for 2300 loop, so it shouldn't be too freezing for us. Which, anything below 70 is freezing since were locals. But the good news is that since we only live 4 hours south of the mouse, that we make many jaunts up a year and I gotta say, the Ft has grabbed our hearts quickly.

Totally don't mind off-topic conversations. lol We were actually debating on aiming to get in shape (well, DH in shape) for a marathon for 2016. Though, as DH argues with me, round is a shape.
Congrats on a finish!

They also have a few things to go at Trail's End at the marina. Just in case you're running late. Some sweets/pastries.

We're big rope drop fans as well. Have a great time!

Personally, I think I'd skip messing with the Contemporary and just eat a bagel and a banana on the way. There's plenty of time to nibble while on the boat or waiting around before the gates open at the MK. We pack along those disposable lidded coffee cups and take along our coffee as well. Pedal to the medal for rope drop, baby! :rotfl2:

We're at the Fort now, until 2/6. We come every year, and never rent a golf cart. We walk everywhere! So far we've logged 26 miles in three days :cool1:

Even though we are planning on it this year, we have never rented a golf cart during the six visits we've had at the Fort. We have found the transportation to be very efficient without it. We have taken our bikes a couple of times.

If you arrive first to MK rope drop don't stand up front at the entrance and miss the show like we did! LOL! You are probably smarter than us! LOL! People really packed in behind us and there was no way to move backwards to see it. We got to hear it though! LOL!

We have stayed at the Fort about 8 times, twice in the cabins and 6 times in our motorhome. We always get a golf cart because by the time we get back to the campground after being in a park all day, our little one is exhausted. He is 6 but dragging him off a bus onto another one after he has already fallen asleep en route is a hassle. There is no way we can make that little guy walk more after that so a golf cart is much easier for us. Plus we usually have backpacks, bags and whatever else we have dragged w/ us along the way.
