Hey folks. Well, we gave our down payment on Sunday and received our paperwork package today, and should be official owners of 225 pts at AKV very soon. Heck, we now have our temporary Member IDs and can start booking now! This is our initial purchase in the DVC after years of pondering the thought of buying in.

What a fun package to open. The wife and I made a real good time of it, building up the anticipation of opening the box but waiting till after dinner..., the FedEx box sitting on the dining room hutch taunting us, testing our steadily wavering will power.

Struggling to hold the anticipation at bay a little longer (and all the while loving the anticipation), we reluctantly worked through all the little evening chores after eating then finally got comfortable at the kitchen table together for the exciting unveiling.

I hit play on the stereo and to the sound of the opening 'Wishes' song, my wife progressed to tear open that FedEx box with more eagerness and fervor than a 10 year old child on a long awaited Christmas morning.

The package is as cool as the other side of the pillow, and we spent the night signing all the forms and looking through some of the literature, dreaming of all the fantastic memories ahead of us.

So, I do have 1 question if you’ve managed to read this far. The first document, titled ‘Product Understanding Acknowledgement’ states the following;

“You may immediately begin to make reservations at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas (or at other DVC Resorts as soon as you purchase) for stays beginning on or after your Unit is available for occupancy.”

What exactly does this mean? Our ‘Estimated Date Unit Is Available for Occupancy’ isn’t until Jan. 29, 2008 (Unit ‘1’… sure that doesn’t mean much, but sounds cool having ‘Unit 1’). Does this mean we can’t book a stay at AKV until AFTER Jan. 29?

Well, sorry for being so long winded, but I had to vent some of our excitement. Thanks in advance for the info.

Yes it means that your points are valid for use beginning Jan 29, 2008 so your first stay anywhere on points (not just AKV, but anywhere) cannot begin any earlier than that date. You don't have to wait until then to call MS to book something but the earliest date of stay is Jan 29, 2008.

In order to keep the system in balance (the number of points in circulation vs. the number of villas available to be rented) they cannot allow members to use their points until the Units where those points came from are ready to be occupied. Otherwise, there would be too many points out there and not enough villas available to be booked.

Because of this, your dues will not start until the later of: your purchase date, the start of your Use Year and your Unit's occupancy date.

P.S. Shouldn't you be watching the game? :happytv:

:welcome: Home!!!

Ah, I remember the excitement of opening the BOX! Enjoy!
I believe you can book a trip now, but the dates of travel would need to be after Jan 28th.

And yes the Red Sox are having a great game tonight.

Thanks for the info Lisa, I appreciate it, and thanks for the nice welcome ACDSNY, we're glad to be home finally. :goodvibes

And btw Lisa, yes, I was cheating just a little bit... I had the game on as we sat at the table looking through the DVC stuff, same as I'll be doing tonight. :)

Welcome to the DVC family -- many happy years of joyous vacations.

See you at the parks.

John

:welcome: home!!! Just wait till your first stay as owners. We've stayed at the DVC resorts, but it was really special going as owners. Wait till you get the "are you crazy" look from co-workers/family members. It truly is "the best kept secret!!!"

May you and your wife have a lifetime of wonderful, magical vacations!!!

Congratulations! May I ask what UY you were given? I spoke with my guide yesterday to get the process started and he mentioned the same thing about the unit not being ready until Jan 29th. I didn't think to ask him what unit or UY I've been assigned.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome folks, we feel like we're really becoming part of something. We're so excited..., can't wait to stay in a 1BR for the first time and just sit out on our balcony overlooking the savanna, soaking up the atmosphere and sipping some really good wine, cheers'ing Walt for having started it all.

We welcome the crazy looks Buckeye. We're already getting them from the few people who know we're actually MOVING to Orlando probably within the next 6 months. :)

Mich, we got a June UY. Actually, our Guide never mentioned we wouldn't be able to actually USE our points until the end of Jan., I only just discovered it when looking over the paperwork the other night which kind of irked me due to the principle of it. Since we had no plans to go before then anyway, and because he's been so nice in every other way, I've overlooked this little omission. Our paperwork says 'Unit 1', but I have no idea what that really means, but it does sound sorta cool. Good luck to yourself!

i just purchase akv with the same date jan 29 2008 the use year is june. i have made my reservation for April at ssr because akv is not available at this time.

I have the same use year as the OP. I was able to make reservations for an march trip without any problems, even though my unit isn't "available" until January 29th. But does that mean I don't need to pay dues for 2007? I thought I needed to pay maintenance fees on my points regardless.

I know the excitement - I loved the process of getting it all signed & done. Welcome to the neighborhood!

You can make a reservation up to 11 months prior to your check-in date at your home resort (or up to 7 months prior at a non-home resort) but your dates of stay cannot be any earlier than your occupancy date. So there is no problem calling now to make the reservation that falls within your booking window but your check-in date cannot be any earlier than Jan 29th.

You won't owe any dues for 2007. For 2008, you will owe dues starting Jan 29th so that works out to 337 days worth of dues for 2008.
