"We're basically here for the food..." A September 2016 TR**Updated 4/21/17

Side Note....I forgot to mention when I was writing the update for Day 5 that my dad was still on the hunt! :rolleyes1

Remember that lost jacket that my dad lost on the very first day in the Caribbean Beach Resort food court? Well, my father had been consistently calling the front desk and also housekeeping every single day to see if it had been found. They kept telling him to call back later in the day to see if it had turned up yet. On day 5 he walked all the way up to the Custom House to talk to the front desk in person about the lost item and to see if they could check with lost and found. They said to call back the next day and that maybe it will show up because sometimes it takes a few days for something to show up at Lost and Found.

My dad was very frustrated with CBR at this point due to our bad room location, the runaround with lost and found, the issue of them not calling a cab for us which resulted in us missing an ADR... tensions and lack of sleep were running high.

Will he ever find his jacket?

Or was it lost forever?

Stay tuned to find out... :jumping1:

Great updates. I love that there were so many. I always intend to schedule a day to just hang out in the middle of our trips but that never seems to happen.

With all the little jumping smilies I have great hope that your father finds his jacket.

I do sooo look forward to the REST day in the middle of each trip. I really hope that you get to take a day like that next time you are at WDW. Its good for the soul!

My dad's jacket... well... I guess I will have to keep you in suspense! :rolleyes1aha

I love your Epcot shirts! I'd have a hard time choosing between Land and World Showcase.

I'm not much of a drinker, but I do love a Grey Goose Slushie! The Dis boards got me on to them about five years ago. My son-in-law enjoys beer drinking around the World.

I haven't read a lot of reviews on Chefs de France. I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. It's always fun to try out a new restaurant.

That's so annoying when you lose something. How frustrating for your dad. I can't buy expensive sunglasses because I lose them so often.

The Grey Goose Slushie's really are quite delicious. They go down WAY too quickly though, don't they?? They can be dangerous! :rolleyes1

Chefs de France really was very good. The tables seemed to be really close together, but that was really all that I could say bad about it. Our server was this lovely French girl who had a happy personality. The food was very flavorful, and I look forward to going again!

You're right... expensive sunglasses are a no-no with me too. :sad2:

I LOVE your Epcot shirts. Where did you get them?

Thank you so much! I saw them online, and I started emailing the guy from Retro Cot. He has an Etsy page! Basically he does all of the vintage EPCOT logos to the original pavillions! He was a pleasure to purchase from too.

I was going through my Photo Pass pictures a few minutes ago, and I just came across 2 of the most amazingly awesome photos ever .... of complete strangers!!

We were walking from future world to the world showcase, and we heard this guy yelling at us to come over and jump into this huge group picture that was forming. You see, he had successfully called over a bunch of strangers to take a Photo Pass picture together. The results are amazing!!

We are the ones in the green EPCOT pavilion shirts.

QUESTION: Are YOU or anyone that you know in these pictures? I'm pretty sure that the guy in the white baseball hat is the one who organized the whole thing. He was hilarious!

I'm so glad that we ran over and joined in, it was loads of fun! We were ALL laughing and we all scanned our magic bands to have the memory forever.

Day 7

Today was our last full day of our vacation. I feel like its always a happy day because we still have 1 entire day to experience the parks, but its also so sad because we would have to LEAVE for home the very next day. Because it was the last day, we had big plans to rope drop EPCOT and go commando all day long, park hop over to Magic Kingdom for our dinner ADR, and stay for Wishes and the Main Street Electrical Parade to end our vacation. We have successfully accomplished this very plan several times, and it makes for a VERY LONG DAY. As you know, Rope Drop at EPCOT means leaving our room at 7:30am, and Wishes at Magic Kingdom didn't start until 9:00pm, followed by Main Street Electrical Parade at 10:00pm... for a grand total of at 15 Hours of Park Time!! Sounds easy, right??

My alarm clock went off at 6:30am, and crawled to the shower. One by one everyone took showers, and my dad volunteered to go to the food court to get our coffees. We finished getting ready for the day while watching Stacy on the tv... "You're Gonna Get Weeeeeeet!!!". We LOVE Stacy, and I wish I could watch her every single day!

We were running on time this morning, and left our room promptly at 7:30am with our coffees, apples, granola bars, waters, and juices in our park bags. The good news about leaving for the park so early in the morning, is that there are ALWAYS seats available on the busses! We had the bus almost to ourselves this morning!

Before we knew it, we were at EPCOT... with our much needed Coffee! Side note: Every year we are sure to get the Resort Refillable Mugs. We get SO MUCH use out of them every day. If you are reading this, and are on the fence about buying them, I highly recommend getting the refillable mugs!

20160909_082330.jpg

We started walking from the bus stop, towards bag check. I LOVE Ethans tshirt... Darth Vader riding in Astro Orbiter is just too funny!

20160909_082351.jpg

We made it through bag check with no line this early in the morning. We ended up being about 10 people behind in line for Rope Dropwhich is exactly where we like to be! Well, if I'm honest, we would prefer to be 1st in line, but we have never been successful in waking up THAT early. This is how far back we were on our last morning.

20160909_083038.jpg

We settled in for our Rope Drop Ritual... sitting down and eating our breakfast while we wait.

Kevin loved his new shirt that he had just purchased at Uniqulo at Disney Springs. He LOVES the movie Up, and so he HAD to have this shirt! It says "Friendship Is Out There".

20160909_083253.jpg

Finally, it was time to open the park, and time for us to race over to Test Track as quickly as possible! I took some pictures of my most favorite ride Spaceship Earth.

20160909_085237.jpg

We also stopped for a Photo Pass Pic...

We walked straight onto Test Track with no wait!.

When we got off, we walked right back on in the single rider line... with no wait!

Continued in next post...

After we rode 2x on Test Track, Ethan decided that he wanted to ride again in the single riders line, so my dad, Kevin, and myself went over to get another coffee at Starbucks. While we were at Starbucks, we remembered that we had really wanted to meet Joy and Sadness. The wait for Joy and Sadness was only about 15 minutes, so we waited in line.

Joy and Sadness were so much fun! Wow, what a great Meet and Greet that was! The room that they were in was just so cool... like we were really in the movie. I'll tell you what, the cast members really had the characters mannerism's down perfectly.

20160909_094018.jpg

After Joy and Sadness, Ethan texted that he was finished with Test Track, and that he was going to go onto Mission Space. None of us will ride Mission Space with him because we get so nauseous! We told him to meet us at the Character Spot when he was finished, and we proceeded to walk across the breezway to meet Mickey, Goofy, and Minnie!

I have always loved the balloons on the celing, and I remember years ago when they used to move up and down. Now they just sort of hang there, but I still like them!

We had a few minutes before our Soarin' fast pass, so we went to Living With The Land because there was nobody in line!

20160909_101101 - Copy.jpg

Since Kevin is the Agriculture Agent for our city, he is always interested in the new techniques that The Land uses to grow crops.

20160909_101309 - Copy.jpg

Soon it was time for us to ride Soarin' which we all love! I don't think I mentioned this previously, but the new version is really good.

We decided that we are all hungry, so we had lunch at Sunshine Seasons again. Unfortunately I didn't take any photos of our lunch, but trust me when I say that it was delicious. I had the Gluten Free option of Grilled Salmon with tomato relish and green beans. I also had the Coconut Macaroon for dessert, which was AMAZING!

With full bellies, we headed to the World Showcase. First stop.... CANADA!

Day 2 Part 5

I will begin this post by APOLOGIZING for the lack of photos from me on this entire afternoon and evening. Hopefully Kevin will swoop in and save the day with his post with a plethora of photo documentation, because I was slacking on the pics for some reason! :flower1:

Once back at the room, we tiptoed around while Ethan was taking a nap. We changed into our bathing suits, grabbed our books / Kindles, and headed to the main pool to decompress! As we walked over to the main pool at Old Port Royale Centertown, the weather was sunny one minute and then cloudy the next. I was hoping for a good afternoon in the sun, but it sort of looked like it may rain. :sunny:

Once we got to the pool, we stopped at the Banana Cabana Pool Bar to get some cocktails! My dad got a Pina Colada, I got a Grey Goose with Soda and 2 limes, and Kevin got a beer. :drinking1 We grabbed some towels and then got some pool chairs BEHIND the pool in the quiet area behind the water slide / fort. We were sort of near the hot tub. HELPFUL TIP: If you are looking for a quiet area at the main pool, I would head to the chairs behind the main slide! :thumbsup2

I will say that I did NOT like the way that the Caribbean Beach Resort main pool was laid out. The concrete area for chairs was not big enough, and all of the chairs were SO SQUISHED TOGETHER with no room to walk in between the chairs. :crowded: It was absolutely not pleasant to be sitting on top of each other. PLUS there were about 50 chairs with towels on them to make it look like people were sitting there, but nobody was anywhere to be found. I think that people leave their wet / used towels on the chairs because they are too lazy to put them in the dirty towel bins. :confused3

This is a photo that I found online of the hot tub area behind the water slide at the main pool. As you can see, the chairs aren't all squished together, and we were the only ones back there at the time which was terrific! :cool1:

We ended up having a nice sunny / cloudy afternoon at the pool reading and relaxing with our cocktails. Vacations are meant to be rejuvenating and relaxing….right? :flower1: I actually went down the big slide a few times, and spent some time swimming. The sun finally went behind the clouds, which made it a bit cooler outside. I covered up with towels and continued to sip on my drink and read my book until it was time to leave. :tilt:

We left the pool to go back to the room and get ready for our dinner reservations at Boma. After we were all cleaned up and ready to go, we went to the Custom House and asked them to call a Cab for us at the concierge desk.

We waited, and waited and waited for 30 minutes, and no cab came. :rolleyes1 We missed our dinner reservation. Apparently the concierge got busy and FORGOT to call our cab, so the concierge at CBR called over to Boma and asked them to extend our dinner reservation time because we were LATE. I was so upset. The short version is that they finally called the cab company, we were picked up, we got to the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and we were allowed in even though we were SO LATE to our reservation. I was mortified that we missed our reservation, but so thankful that Boma was so wonderful and understanding with the situation. :lovestruc

We love Boma. This was our 3rd year in a row eating at this restaurant. We LOVE LOVE LOVE Boma! The service is always wonderful, and the food is unbelievable even though it is a buffet!

The chef came to our table and spent a long time asking me about my food likes and dislikes. We then walked up to the buffet together and he showed me what was safe and unsafe to eat with my gluten allergy. He also said that he would prepare a special gluten free curry dish for me, as well as a SPECIAL dessert platter that he said would be full of my most FAVORITE food… CHOCOLATE! I was very intrigued, and instantly fell in love with this chef because his passion for cooking and for food was contagious!

I started to fill up my plate, and let me just tell you that Boma has SO MUCH FOOD and SO MANY GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS that my mind was spinning because I wanted some of EVERYTHING. :cake:

View attachment 202991

I filled my plate with salad, chicken, salmon, sweet potatoes, and broccoli. The chef also kept his promise and brought me not only a plate of gluten free curry with jasmine rice, but also a whole plate of gluten free pitas with hummus! I literally was so excited that I almost cried. Everything was DELICIOUS!

My dad ordered a glass of Merlot, Kevin ordered an African beer, and I had my usual of a Grey Goose, soda, with 2 limes. :drinking1

View attachment 202984

I thought that dinner was terrific, but it really went OVER the top when the chef hand delivered me my special plate of gluten free desserts including my favorite Zebra Domes! My stomach was so stuffed, but there is always room for dessert! :cake:

Do you see this FANCY GLUTEN FREE DESSERT PLATE? Its all for me!

After dinner, we hopped on a bus back to Animal Kingdom because we still had our reserved seating for the first showing of the Jungle Book Alive With Magic Show!! We were SO EXCITED because we were told that the show would end the very next day and was not coming back. We felt so lucky to have gotten the reservations with reserved seating at just the right time!

So we thought.... :rolleyes1

Well, we got to Animal Kingdom and was raining. And then it started to pour. Luckily we had our umbrellas so we headed straight to the gift shops in Discovery Island and out of the rain. The Tree Of Life Awakenings were happening and we kept catching glimpses of if as we were running with our umbrellas from shop to shop! Then we ran across to the Tree of Life and went into Its Tough To Be A Bug which we LOVE, so we were happy that we go to see it even though we really didn't plan to.

The rain was pretty steady, and then it was announced over the loudspeaker that the first showing of The Jungle Book Alive With Magic show was cancelled due to the weather. Booooooooooooooo!!!!! Oh well.

My dad and Kevin were tired, and they both decided to head back to the resort and relax. Ethan and I chose to stay at AK to watch as many of the Tree of Life Awakenings as possible, because OH MY GOSH they are AWESOME! :jumping1:

The Tree of Life Awakenings were breathtaking, and emotional, and brought tears to my eyes, they were amazing! If there is one thing that Disney does right, its their Night Time shows. You can quote me on this, but THIS may be Disneys greatest night time show. They are short, but they are amazing. I Loved every second watching this!

View attachment 202988

While Ethan and I stood under our umbrellas for about an hour watching the Tree of Life Awakenings, the strangest thing happened – the rain slowed down, and then became a sprinkle, and then barely nothing but a few itty bitty drops here and there. We were still holding out for the 2nd showing of The Jungle Book Show, but we also decided that it would be a great idea to ride Expedition Everest AT NIGHT!!!! Normally EE closes early at 5:00 or 6:00, so this was a new idea for us to actually ride it in the DARK! :scared1:

The park was scheduled to stay open LATE tonight, so we were so happy! We had never been inside of AK at night before!

While walking over to EE, the dreaded announcement came over the speakers…. The Jungle Book Alive With Magic 2nd showing was also cancelled. BUMMER!!! We really wanted to see it, but obviously it wasn't going to happen.

The flip side is that the park was nearly empty because everyone had left! :thumbsup2

We were able to ride Expedition Everest 3x in a row in the single riders line with ZERO WAIT TIME! 6x in 1 day on EE …. Yes please! party:

The ride photos show us waterlogged but happy! Let me just say that riding EE at night was VERY cool and felt like a totally different ride. We LOVED it!

Ethan doing the DAB again for his ride photo. How clever. :rotfl2:

View attachment 202990

Single rider photos are always funny, because I literally have no idea who the other 3 people are in my train. :rotfl2:

View attachment 202989

We were exhausted, so we left the park and got on the bus headed to Caribbean Beach Resort. When we got back to the room, Kevin and my dad were still awake and they were a tad jealous that we got to ride EE again so many times! :thumbsup2

Even though we weren’t able to see the Jungle Book show, it was an excellent night. In my old age I have learned that sometimes you just gotta roll with it! We didn’t plan on anything that we actually did at Animal Kingdom that night, but we had an absolute ball. :jumping1:

Stay tuned for the next post when we Rope Drop Hollywood Studios!

Day 2: 21,161 Steps / 9.83 miles walked

Thanks for the great Boma review! We will be there in 3 weeks, also after having brunch at Tusker House. Woohoo!

Thanks for the great Boma review! We will be there in 3 weeks, also after having brunch at Tusker House. Woohoo!

We so love Boma.... the food is so flavorful and the selection is amazing! We have always had excellent servers each time that we have dined there. Please remember to try the Zebra Domes... they are out of this world!

The Tusker House at brunch is the perfect time to go! You better be hungry because there is SO MANY CHOICES... and it's so hard not to try everything :rolleyes1 You're going to have a great time because the characters are pretty spectacular.

That group photo is awesome! I love when stuff like that happens!

We just got back from an amazing (and warm) four days at WDW. The mugs have handles again. I was expecting to not have one and there it was. I agree with you about the mugs. I use it for coffee every morning and don't mind rinsing it out and carrying it in the backpack. They're also a fun little souvenir that we've reused and I've even brought some to work to put in our coffee room. Last night, I gasped as I watched my daughter pitch her family of four's mugs because she didn't feel like hauling them home.

The dining plan for 2017 now has two snack credits per day. Dessert is no longer included with the counter service meal, but you can use a snack credit and still get dessert. We liked this as my husband is a huge Starbucks guy and got one every day with a snack credit.

I'm with you on rope drop. You can get so much done that first two hours.

I love Kevin's Up shirt! He has great taste!

Test Track is my second favorite ride after Soarin'. I'm jealous you were able to ride it two time in a row.

That's great that you were able to meet Joy and Sadness. One of my daughters waited over an hour with my granddaughter to meet them and thought it was worth it.

I forgot that those balloons used to go up and down in the Land pavilion.

Loving your TR so far! WDW is probably my favourite place in the world to eat GF/with dietary restrictions, and one of the places I've felt the safest with the exception of my own kitchen. We've had awesome experiences with almost zero issues at Disney restaurants since I went gluten free and low dairy (along with a few other allergies) about 3 years ago. So I love seeing your meal reports! Some highlights for us (both for gluten free and regular diners) have been Boma (breakfast and dinner), Coral Reef, Tiffins, Ohana, Columbia Harbour House, Rose and Crown, Brown Derby, and Teppan Edo (though the chef wasn't keen on having my food made out back, so he made it first on the grill. Was concerned about cross-contamination here, but I never got sick.) And there are so many more!

What did you think of Jock Lindsay's Hangar Bar for your cocktails? I think DF may be planning to go with his best man/friends the night before our wedding. They're not big drinkers, but they like a drink or two and are big Indy fans.

DF would totally agree with your love of Epcot! He's only been to WDW twice so far (but he caught the bug!), but he loved Epcot and thought it was a contender for his fave park. I love it too, but if pressed I'd probably put Animal Kingdom or MK in that spot.

Can't wait to read more!

Sorry to thread hijack a bit, but Annie - can you order any coffee at SB for a snack credit? Or is it a specific size/type/etc?

After our 2nd ride, we went over to Tower of Terror, and walked right on with no wait. Well, maybe we waited 90 seconds or so. My dad gets nauseous on ToT, so he took our orders and headed to Starbucks to get us some coffees.

After ToT, we met my dad right outside of Starbucks, and enjoyed our delicious Frappuccino’s while having a mini Photopass photo shoot! We were getting so many comments with our StarWars Coffee shirts from guest and cast members it was crazy!

Continued in the next post...

Somehow just stumbled upon your report... we were there same time and same resort and going to the same parks 4 or 5 days. We totally saw you on this day!!!! I commented to my husband how much I like your shirts. We were at rope drop too but had to sign our kids up for Jedi training first. Then we made our way to Rockin and TOT.

Sorry to thread hijack a bit, but Annie - can you order any coffee at SB for a snack credit? Or is it a specific size/type/etc?

We used the snack credits at Starbucks for everything from coffees to frappes to lattes to frappuccinos. We always told them to give us the largest size you can with the snack credit and they were pretty big. I don't know if they were the largest possible size, but maybe the next largest. It was a good value with the snack credit.

Yes the group photo was so hilarious! We were ALL laughing and laughing and it was just one of those Magical Memories that will live forever in pictures!

YAAAY for 4 days at WDW! To be honest, I am not sure how I feel about the mugs having handles again... the ones we got last year with no handles really do fit so perfectly in my car cup holder. We do use all of our WDW mugs though - handles and no handles.

I recently read about the 2 snack credits per day now, which is GREAT for me because I use them for Starbucks too! Your husband is a smart guy!!:flower:

I'm so glad that you mentioned that you like Tiffins being GF and low Dairy. We are planning on eating there this September. I've heard really wonderful reports that the food is very very very good, but I'm happy to know that the GF food is good too!

Jock Lindsay's Hangar Bar is FABULOUS! We have told so many people about our terrific experiences there over our past 2 visits to WDW. The theming is so terrific, even the menu's help to tell the Indiana Jones story. My favorite cocktail there is: Air Pirate's Mule - Knob Creek Disney Select Single Barrel Reserve Bourbon and fresh Lime Juice topped with Fever-Tree Ginger Beer $12
Other cocktails that I've tried at Jock Lindsay's are:
