We're Back!!!

Hi everyone,

We got back from DLRP last night, and I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who gave me advice and help and suggestions and good wishes

We had a fantastic time, cold but not too bad and no queues anywhere so we did everything as much as we wanted! Absolutely shattered now but we had the time of our lives and the kids will never forget it.

Jamie's ear was fine on the plane so pixie dust really works lol

Special thanks to Cleous, the taxi firm you recommended were fantastic and I can't thank you enough for that

And now I can help people with their questions - this board was a godsend in terms of planning, I was able to organise everything easily armed with special info from here!

So thanks again everyone

Especially love to hear about it as I will be going myself in three weeks time. Glad there was not too many queues. I'd love to know where you ate and did you do character meals, if so, what characters did you have?

Mickey4kids, some of the attractions had no queues at all and the cast members were encouraging you to go round again! We went round lots of them more than once, including Buzz Lightyear, Pirates, Peter Pan, Big Thunder Mountain (well I didn't but OH and kids did lol!).

We weren't very adventurous with the food as my kids are somewhat fussy and I am vegetarian so when we found things we liked we stuck with them.

We ate at New York Style Sandwiches on our first night as it was quite late when we arrived and we were starving. Hated it! Found it expensive, crowded and didn't like the food.

During the day we stuck to three main places, a lot of the places in the actual parks were not open but we ate quite a few cakes at the Cable car Bake Shop on Main Street - yummy!!!! We also ate at Casey's Corner a couple of times, very nice for what it is which is basically a McDonalds type place but much nicer. We also ate at the 'Au Chalet de la Marionette' a couple of times and liked this.

We had breakfast in the park one morning which was nicer than the hotel breakfast and also was not at all busy. Afterwards everyone else dashed over to Space Mountain and so on and there was me and my 4 year old left in Fantasyland with it pretty much to ourselves, bliss!!

We also had breakfast at cafe Mickey one morning which was expensive but well worth it and we saw Pluto, Pinocchio, Mickey, Stitch, Prince John, Chip and Dale, Eeyore, Goofy and Friar Tuck. Because it wasn't busy they were able to spend ages at each table which was great for the kids, and they were playing with them and teasing them etc, great fun. The food was great, although the kids didn't eat much!

We ate at Planet Hollywood twice, the first time we got 15% off from a voucher, the second time we got 20% off for a repeat visit. Delicious both times and great service.

Our last night we ate at cafe Mickey and it was just as good this time, great food. We saw Goofy, Captain Hook, Mickey, Baloo, Minnie, Pinocchio, and to my little boy's delight, Donald Duck! Donald is his favourite and seeing the bliss on his face as he cuddled him is a moment that will stay with me forever, magical and worth all the expense just for that moment lol.

Sweetheartlmg,
This was our first trip and I was really worried about it but it went very well. How long are you going for?
We managed to do everything the kids wanted to do four and a half days and could have done it in less if we had need to.
Unless your girls are intrepid ones you will probably want to stay around Fantasyland which is all the rides for smaller kids and the place my 4 year old boy most wanted to be. He also enjoyed Buzz Lightyear very much and your girls probably would too!
With young girls you probably won't want to be in Adventureland or Frontierland too much but your husband may well like it a great deal! My youngest enjoyed the riverboat ride but was upset by Phantom Manor, which my older two loved.
They will adore the parade, my three boys did even though it was the 'Princess Parade', it was fab, as was the one in the studios.
Don't miss the Animagique show in the studios, my youngest loved this so much.

Other tips: take snacks, the ones in the park are expensive and very little choice, do at least one character meal, have an autograph book ready at all times, have your camera permanently at hand! There is a lot of fantastic advice on these boards, I spent some time reading the threads and asked a few questions so I was fairly well prepared by the time we got there.

I have to say I have never been particularly keen on Disney things, it was very much a trip for the kids. However the Disney magic got to me somehow and pretty soon I was dancing my way around Main Street and snuggling up to Mickey lol

It was a fantastic holiday and one we will never forget.

Could you tell me if Annettes Diner was open when you were there?

A friend of mine returned on 1st Feb and they tried to go to Annettes but it was closed for a refurb. They said it looked like it was getting a lick of paint but i am hoping it will be open next week when we go.

Really glad you enjoyed Cafe Mickeys. We have a breakfast booked for 17th Feb!! Can't wait!

Any low points of the trip?

We didn't actually go to Annette's Diner but it didn't look very open when we walked past. However it may have been, I didn't study it, sorry

There was a lot of painting going on though everywhere even while we were in places so there is a good chance it will be open when you go if it isn't already lol!

Low points? The first night at the New York Style Sandwich place wasn't good, and my son choked on a sweet at Cafe Mickey and turned blue (I had to do something like the Heimlich manoeuvre to rescue him which was scary!) and our flight home was delayed. otherwise, all good!!

Thank you for your excellent reply. Exactly the information I wanted to know. I am glad that Planet Hollywood was good as this is where we are thinking of going for one of our meals, also Lucky Nugget and Cafe Mickeys and we may even do the tea party at Plaza Gardens, we shall see? Was it easy booking your meals or did you book before you went? Also the other information you have forwarded on this forum has helped me a lot, I will go and see Animagique, I am sure my children, aged 9, 6 and 3 will like that. Anything else you can think of just put it down. Great stuff!!! How long where you in the studios for, people say you can do it in 1/2 day, I am planning on just one full day there?

Mickey4kids I wouldn't worry about booking till you arrive. I would recommend the tea party as one of your first Character meals. I's not as expensive as dinner/breakfast and given the children spend more time with characters than eating it's a good option. Plus if you have a sweet tooth you get a benefit too. Plus the hot choc is good to heat you up !

Mickey4kids, we booked cafe Mickey while we were there (our hotel did it for us), and the times we ate at Planet Hollywood were not busy, no queues or anything, we didn't book. We didn't do Plaza Gardens and the Lucky Nugget was closed while we were there unfortunately!

When will we go back? When we have saved up a LOT of money lol! Maybe next year, who knows....
