We were in DL from 12/10-12/14 and just got back today.

The Good: We were the "Magical Moment Family" of the day and got upgraded to a 15th floor view room at PP with balloons and Mickey rice krispie treats. We also got turn down service each night as well.

I requested the honeymoon turndown service as it was our 10th anniversary and housekeeping really did an excellent job. Also had a cake delivered and it was good but very rich and we ended up throwing it out after the first night as it was a little over the top. The bakery did a beautiful job decorating.

Crowds were great Wed. and Thurs. Fri. morning and the first two hours of Sat. were okay........after that well........that is where ugly comes in.

Got in line for candy canes on Sat. a little late as we decided to enjoy MM. Well, I did not count and I was #16 in line and #15 is the cut off. Well when they started handing out the tickets and they got to me and said, "sorry" DH was about to have a cow:scared1:.......and well let's just say I almost started crying as I was frustrated with myself for not being smarter and getting in line when I had the opportunity. Well just about the time I was beating myself up, the sweet teenager in front of me handed me her ticket and told me to get my candy canes. :santa: :yay: I hugged her and I think I scared the crap out of her but...........I got my two candy canes. Well, all I can say is the line behind me and later on in the day was......well ugly:scared1: .

We got dreamed with ears in DC at the Redwood Creek Challenge on Fri. and fastpasses by the castle on Sat. We used the new fastpasses as well as our old ones from past trips yesterday.

Bad:

Vons grocery delivery..........we will NEVER use them again. After 7 calls on Wed. night we never did receive our groceries and we requested that the order be cancelled because noone could tell us a darn thing about our order. It was not until 5 hours after the order was to be delivered and the seventh call that we were informed the order never even was put on the truck. Nice, real nice.

Vons did deliver our order, after we cancelled it, on Thursday. We called and they would not come pick it up and even with that, the order was missing some items. This was our first time using Vons, we used Albertsons before, but got sucked in with free delivery. Never again.

Disneyland Resort Express bus broke down today on the side of PP as we were heading to DLH to make the transfer. Got freaked out for a minute that we were going to miss our flight but made it just fine.

We ate at NR at the chef's counter on Thurs. at the 8:30 seating. Never in a million years did I think they would run out of food and be unable to offer the Vintner's menu. This was our first time there and I was very disappointed to say the least. We also never once talked to the chef, noone besides our server talked to us and I had a whole different picture about this experience. Our food was good but I was disappointed in not being able to at least watch our food prepared.

Ugly:
The crowds on Fri. and Sat. We always go during off season so I knew it was going to be crazy but experiencing it was different.

Holiday Tour: We did not have audio on Fri. night and being able to keep up with our tour guide and hear her was a challenge.

Small World: The boats still bottom out and I mean big time. During the holiday tour we saw 5 boats bottom out, including ours.

Overall we had a great trip and would go back during the holidays again.

That's for sharing the good, bad, and ugly experiences of your trip. I'm glad you had a great trip overall. That was so nice of that teen to give you her ticket. :cutie:

That was so nice of that girl to give you her ticket!! I'm glad you got your candy canes...one of these years I'm going to be able to do that. :)

Congrats on your upgrade!! That sounds so cool!!! Overall it sounds like you had a great trip. I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves!

I like candy canes, but I prefer them crunched up in other treats (like ice cream or cake) rather than just by themselves, so I am glad I don't have to stress myself out over getting into the line early enough to get one of the few fresh ones that are sold!:goodvibes

I think that is so cool that the teenager in front of you gave you her ticket. If not for the fact that they only let you have two, I would have wanted to give her a couple of the candy canes!

That was incredibly generous of a kid to give you her ticket for candy canes. You have to laugh though at what her thoughts must have been, "Uh... this adult behind me is almost in tears...." :rotfl: :goodvibes

I have to ask because I am not familiar with these. Are they special candy canes? I don't think I have ever heard about tickets for candy canes and if they are such a huge deal, I am curious what I don't know about. :confused3 Thanks for any info.

Congrats on your Magic Moment upgrade and double dream winnings!

I didn't know what candy canes she was talking about either... But here is a link talking about them

OMG....they are just candy canes you can buy 13 for $1....lol. I can't beleive people would wait hours in line after spending big bucks for a ticket. If they were mickey shaped then we would have to think about it. I would rather have the free hotel upgrade

I would watch them make them but I wouldn't want to wait in line for hours just to get a ticket to purchase two. I think it's neat they make them there and if it wasn't such a task I would think they'd make many more. Glad you had a good trip! I didn't see or experience the IASW boats bottoming out at all, I like the new boats. I have been wanting to try NR too but not sure it'd be worth the money either...guess everyone has a different experience and some just get lucky.

Congrats on getting dreamed twice. Love the FP when it's crowded.:thumbsup2
Agree with you about the chef's table at Napa Rose. We have dined there at least half a dozen times and once tried that. We ended up in the corner of the dessert section and also had no interaction with the chef's. The girl making desserts was from Vietnam and even stated she was shy and not talkative. We'll stick with tables in the main Dining Room. And yes, I am shocked that they ran out of food on the VM. Yikes! Glad your trip went well, thanks for sharing.:)

I think I will try the chef's counter again but have the earlier seating. That way they won't run out of the menu and it should be busier in the kitchen area.

Thanks. Just read it. So.... they are just long candy canes??? :confused3

I was actually there at the same time as the original poster. I went on the Adventures by Disney tour, and that Saturday was our last full day of the tour. My friend got into the standby line and waited 3 hours and managed to get one, but others didn't. I watched the candy canes being made, and they were huge. My travel umbrella is smaller than these candy canes.

I think there's a big rush on these because there are so very few of them made, only a few days of the season they make them.

Yes, they are quite large. That was the reason the sweet, kind girl in front of me gave me her ticket as her Mom was already getting two of them and they are big. We still have one left. Everyone that has tried it has loved it so there must be some special...:wizard:
