Ok- after a looong time of considering any number of offsite resorts, we just made the decision to stay at a Dis resort again this fall. 
Now I've got to make it cheaper!
I'd love some feedback about our options/plans
1- a week at a moderate ( this makes me nervous as we have had some bad luck with rain in the past when traveling in the fall. Long walks and being stuck in a room don't sound appealing. A deluxe will have a lobby/activities/food)
2-rent dvc points
3-spend a few days at a value/moderate, then switch to deluxe ( and hope the weather cooperates. We will be doing US for a day or two, most likely when staying at the the value/mod
4- try to get FD or big room discount, but pay full price for tickets or get fix thru YES but pay full price for lodging and meals ( this is hard to plan as nothings come out yet for our dates- which are flexible)
5- I'm leaning towards 3 nights at ASM then deluxe, or 4 at CS then deluxe
