We had a wonderful stay and even though we hadn't been to "Dixie Landings" for three years, it was just as beautiful as I remembered - basically, nothing had changed, and our stay was PERFECT!!

I faxed a room request in 4 days before our arrival, asking for a 2nd floor, non-smoking room in Alligator Bayou - Building 27. At check in, the CM pulled up our reservation and said, "I have a room for you in Building 27, as you requeste." I must say, this was a great location!! Our room overlooked a little courtyard area and we were less than a 5 minute walk to the Ole' Man Island and to the food court and main bus stop. We had bunnies, and ducks...and even baby ducks greeting us every morning.

Our wait for a bus was NO MORE than 10 minutes on any occasion. None of the "nightmare" bus stories I've read about so often here. We hopped on at the main bus stop, but the bus continued around to each of the other stops, and was never full, and never had to deny people a ride. Even when we left the Magic Kingdom on Friday night, we only had to wait through one bus, before a 2nd one arrived for us.

We only used the food court for breakfasts and to refill our mugs. I did purchase 2 new mugs and took 2 that my daughters purchased while there just a few weeks ago. (Don't flame me for this). Even though I have two older styles from our other visits, I didn't take them.....but I must point out that I saw dozens of these older mugs being used. (Just stating a fact - don't want to cause a debate!) My 10-year old pointed this out to me when she spotted people around the main pool area with the old mugs. Oh well...I did my good deed and bought two new mugs!!

We didn't use the quiet pool on this trip - just Ole' Man Island. I did ask one of the life guards about the "ugly" fencing separating the sections of the main pool. She told me that this fall, the pool area will go through a major reconstruction - enlarging, extending the waterfall, adding some of the little water fountains that squirt up on you randomly - like at Downtown Disney. She said that "by the time you come back next year, it will be completed, and it will be so much nicer!"

Please note that if you use the main pool area, you will not need to drag your own towels or room towels to the pool. They have TONS of clean towels there for your use.

Housekeeping was great - leaving little towel creatures for the kids and also leaving DD's Pooh - sitting on her pillow with the television remote in his hand and the television turned on - the Disney Channel of course.

One other comment regarding the Bayou room with the trundle bed. I continually read where people question if they will be charged for using the bed. You will only be charged if you have 5 persons - you're charged for the 5th body - not the use of the bed. We only had 4 person, but DD (age 10) slept in that bed every night - because it was "cute" and she didn't want to sleep with her brother!!

Hope this helps - feel free to ask away if you have other questions!

We are booked into POR in Jan. 2003. Usually stay at CBR, but are staying POR because of the renovation. We have two rooms booked, non-smoking, hopefully connecting. However didn't know enough about this resort to request specific buildiing. Would like to be close to food courts and buses. Any suggestions would be appreciated!:

You can't go wrong (distance wise) with any of the buildings in the first series - 14-18, or Building 27 where we stayed. Our actual favorite of all was 18, but it is a smoking optional building. We were lucky and had a room with no trace of smoke, but others might not be so lucky. We had a quiet pool right behind us and a very short walk to the main buildings and main bus stop. Building 27 was also a wonderful location. We could stand in front of our building and look to the left and see the bridge to Ole' Man Island and to our right was the food court - a very short walk to either location.

Hope this helps!!

TwinMom7, so glad you had so much fun at POR! I have a question about the pool, as I found out is going to be rehabbed in Sept. When you say enlarging, do you mean the whole pool, the slide or what?
To Opel, we love bldg. 15 in AB, very close to the first bus stop, and the main bldg where the lobby and food court are. Request a few days in advance and you should be all set.

Did they say how long the pool would be in rehab? Because we're going there over Thanksgiving and the main reason we picked the POR was the pool. :(

Glad to hear you had a great trip!

We have stayed at riverside two years ago (bldg 15) anyway you said this fall they would rehab the pool. Does that mean they will close the main pool while working on it? We will be there late Sept/Oct and would be very dissapointed if we could not use the main pool. Thanks!!

The lifeguard did not say if the pool area would be closed during the rehab, but I would assume that with what she told me it would be impossible for it to remain open during construction. I asked about the fencing and the closing of the bridge...(you used to be able to walk over the pool via a wood bridge.

She told me that the pool rehab would start "this fall" and that it would consist of extending the waterfall (from the train trestle) out further over the pool, enlarging the slide, rebuilding the bridge, and adding the little water fountains around the pool area. She said it's going to be a wonderful thing upon completion!!! (Granted, this is only a moderate resort - but look at what they did to the pool at the Polynesian - after a multi-million dollar rehab!!!)

Being that we have traveled several times in late September and knowing how HOT it can still be at that time of year, I would be surprised if they would start this project before November...but you never know. I would think November - March would be a good time of year to do this, but Disney's construction crews may have a different time table. It might be worth a phone call - especially if you are basing your entire stay around this pool.

I know that we were so disappointed 3 years ago when we traveled in September and Splash Mountain was closed for rehab. As far as Disney's concerned, once September arrives and the crowds drop - it's rehab time.

Enlarging the slide!!!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc You have no idea how happy you have just made me!!! I am 42 years old, have 3 sons and I feel like a little kid on this slide. I absolutely love it, so I can't imagine it becoming longer and bigger....WOOPEE!!!!
