We're back from cruise #36, and it was a "wonder"ful trip, as always! We went to the Lab to look up Amy, but she was off duty so we left something fun. Lots of our other friends were on board, including Sasha, who was filling in on cruise staff, so it was a wild time! I brought my laptop computer, but I never even opened the case. The 3-night cruises go by much too fast.
I'll have my trip report done soon, but here are a few quick observations:
-The Feb. announcement is now probably going to happen in May. It's driving me crazy because I like to have my cruises planned a year in advance, but I'm holding off on 2005 in anticipation.
-The weather was lovely, and it was warm enough to swim on Castaway Cay for hardy Northerners (I heard people from warmer climates saying it was cold). I spent a couple of hours in the water, and there were lots of other people with me. There must have been a high adults-without-kids population on board, or else they must all have convinced the kiddies to stay at Scuttles Cove, as the adult beach was packed. I saw a nurse shark while swimming there...that has to be the coolest aquatic creature I've ever seen in all of our cruises.
-We did the surial, and everything was in good working order...same thing in the Rainforest, where I spent a lot of time reading in the tile loungers while hubby baked in the steamroom. If you do the surial and notice the reddish orange color of the grout, don't get freaked out. It's clean...that's just from years of people slinging that clay colored mud around till it has dyed the grout. Seaweed wrap and Absolute Face & Body were great, too.
-If you want to plan ahead for next year, Shutters is still selling Christmas cards. You can buy them for this Christmas, even if you are sailing early in the year. We had a set made with our Mickey formal picture, and they turned out great. (A side note...be sure to pack plenty of shoes. I forgot my black dress shoes, so in the photo I am in a really nice black dress but wearing black canvas slip-ons).
-Amazingly, "Till Me Meet Again" (the farewell character appearance) was hardly crowded at all. Usually it's packed wall-to-wall with people. I went to get a photo with Stitch, and we also got one with Peter Pan and Anne Marie (their line was longer than the one to see Minnie!). Definitely go to see Stitch...he is as naughty in person as he is in the cartoon. He tried to steal a kid's pen, then tossed it away, and he wouldn't stop taking over the grand piano.
-Watch for incriminating photos of me, unless I can manage to delete them from the camera before Tony posts them. I did Gloria Gaynor at the 70s party, and of course shy little old me did NOTHING wild ;) . I know most of the cruise staff, but surprisingly, the guy who picked me didn't realize who I was. He heard me telling one of the other contestants that I knew she'd have fun, as I'd done it before, and he almost fainted when I told him I had been on 36 cruises!
-Embarkation started right around noon, and the line really didn't start building until pretty late. Debarkation was nice and simple, as always, but it was COLD!! (In the 40s).
That's enough for now, but full details will be coming soon.

WELCOME HOME! CAN'T WAIT TO READ THE FULL REPORT! :)

That's too bad...I know a lot of people are anxiously awaiting those dates! I'm so glad we decided not to wait and booked March 5th 2005's Eastern instead. ::yes::

I saw a nurse shark while swimming there...that has to be the coolest aquatic creature I've ever seen in all of our cruises.

That is SO COOL! :earseek: Where were you at in Serenity Bay when you saw it?

...same thing in the Rainforest, where I spent a lot of time reading in the tile loungers while hubby baked in the steamroom.

That is now my *new* favorite onboard activity! It's freezing here in northeast PA and I am sitting here wishing I had those heated loungers!!!

WELCOME HOME!

Welcome back Barb!!!!!!!!!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Glad you had a great time! I always enjoy reading your trip reports, and am eagerly awaiting for the one from this trip!

Crsndsny,
Yep, the nurse shark was at Serenity Bay. Apparently there were two of them, but I only saw one. I didn't even realize it was there, but another man in the water yelled, "Hey, lady, look behind you!" It just went calmly cruising past me.
Tony has seen the barracuda many times, and I've seen lots of stingrays and even a squid (the poor thing was squirting ink to scare everyone away, but that just attracted more people to look at it!), but the nurse shark was the best yet.

Now, that just makes it harder to wait and decide about picking a date for our 50th Birthday Celebration Cruise in 2005. What to do, what to do???

That is so cool! The only neat thing I've ever experienced out there was last trip -- I was sitting in a chair in the water on the shoreline and a bunch of silver-colored fish kept swimming and jumping past me up and down the shoreline. I thought THAT was cool...but seeing what you mentioned sounds really really cool!

Welcome back Barb! I'm glad to hear you had a great time, as always. So how close did people get to the nurse shark?! Did anyone snatch an underwater picture by chance?!?!

So how long until the next 'wonderful' cruise?

Andy, they are planning something so wonderful for our (and Disneyland's) 50th that when it is announced, we will be thrilled!!!
(fingers crossed)

Whenever we go in 2005, we will have a ball - just like Barb -
36???? I think that deserves a free cruise, Barb!!

Barb,
Were you on the same cruise as us? If so, I think I saw you in the rain forest room sleeping with a novel.

Best part of our trip was the kayak trip. As we approched the shore line, the leader pulled our kayak onto the sand. I was in the front and got out, hubby was in the back. The kayak tilted up due to him still being in the kayak and me out. He did an unintentional backflip into the water. Hysterical! If anyone caught it on video it would win America's Funniest.

I want a copy as I am still laughing uncontrollabally!!:hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Welcome to the Disboards.

How mean :p you are to laugh at your poor husband and his misfortunes. I bet it was hilarious, too bad you didn't have the video camera ready

Sounds like another great trip! Thanks for the report, Barb. Cant wait to see Gloria. ;)
But now I guess I have to make a decision whether to book the 4 day for 2005(a huge disappointment after hoping for the 7 day for so long) or go to another cruise line. :( Theres no way I can hold out until May.

Cruisin'Kroezes: my hubby is a great sport. Usually it would have been me doing such a silly stunt and in fact, if I had been in the back, it would have been me.

Last night of the cruise I was laughing so hard the bed was shaking (at 3:00 AM), I wasn't laughing out loud but it was all I could do to keep my mouth closed. Hubby woke up and thought I was crying. I need to get over that picture in my head or somebody is going to put me in the mental ward.

We had a BLAST!! His 1st cruise, my 5th. He is now wanting to do the 7-day. Yippee!!

Wasn't on your cruise, but I saw this picture and thought about your DH, and couldn't help but chuckle.

Anybody seen my kayak?

Barb, is there an Internet Cafe at MCO? Or did you plug in your laptop at the Admirals' Club? As early as you posted, it's safe to guess you weren't in Chicago yet!

I have a laptop and wireless internet access now, so I don't have to live without my DIS addiction being fed for long. I just wish it worked on the ship.
Echo, yep, if you just disembarked today, I'm sure that was me in the Rainforest. And if you were at 70's night, I was the Gloria in the long, blue dress (the scared little wallflower who just stood there in terror...not! :jester: ).
