the charm hopefully??

Jury is still out but I'm hopeful. Here is what went on.

First off I am SO happy that I have found a doctor that actually TALKS to me and LISTENS! Woo HOO! He came out to the waiting room to get me and took me back to his office. We talked for about 20-25 minutes. He had me go over everything that has happened since the onset. He told me he didn't want to go by what all the other doctors said, that he wants to start over fresh.

Then we went to the examining room and he made me put on one of those lovely decorator tablecloth dresses in a room that must have been minus 12 degrees...lol He came back in and started going through all my joints and I was shocked. He was the first doctor that actually hit all the areas that hurt! The others just poked and asked if it hurt but it never did. He knew where to look. When he got to my knee I got "the look". My knee has been trashed for the past 10 years. I've avoided the doctor on it all this time until now. eek. He looked at me and told me "we are going to deal with that after we get you fixed up". *sigh*

He did confirm that I have a nasty case of Fibromyalgia. But he did tell me that until he gets that under control he doesn't want to rush the diagnosis on the AOSD. (Even though the last 2 doctors said I have it) At the time I was there I didn't have the fevers (of course I told him it would be a different thing at night) He said I am of course showing the symptoms of AOSD (minus the fever) but he seems more concerned with the Fibro right off. (said it was complicating things)

So.. he took some blood, gave me a couple of weeks worth of Bextra (since my insurance doesnt cover it and it's not cheap) and asked me to come back in two weeks and we will start from there.

I was impressed by the fact that he wanted to start with a clean slate and not just work off what the two previous doctors said. I was impressed by the fact that this man spent over an hour talking to me, listening and explaining everything to me (what a nice change!) I was impressed that nothing was delegated off to a nurse - he did everything with me, took my blood, blood pressure, right down to coming to the waiting room and getting me. His bedside manner was wonderful and he kept apologizing for having to make me hurt when he pressed on the sensitive joints. Told me that I was no wuss since I didn't even flinch when he took blood out of the back of my hand :)

In all.. I give him an A+ for the "human" side of being a doctor.. the bedside manner, the willingness to talk and listen. As far as if he is a good doctor, that I don't know. But for now, I'm encouraged.

Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Laurie,
That news sounds encouraging. I am keeping my fingers and legs crossed for you because I know right now you can't. Especially since the Dr played around with all your joints today.
I hope the Bextra works for you, I got some a few weeks ago for my arthritis in my knees and it works great on me.
Keep us posted.
And wow, you had blood drawn from your hand and didn't punch him. That hurts. Peggie

When I "snap" them, things happen ;) !

Congrats on the (relatively) happy visit. I sincerely hope that he turns out to be as good as he appears. Good luck with it all, and maybe now you'll get some results!

Lauri,

That all sounds very encouraging!! Finding the right doctor is half the battle!

I will be keeping good thoughts for you and the doc and the test results!!!

Hang in there,

Laurie, glad to read you found a doctor who talks & listens. Thoughts, prayers & pixie dust continue your way ...

Hi Lauri,

Was this doctor a neurologist. He sounds just like the doctor I work for - goes and gets his own patients, hugs them in the waiting room and then listens to them and heals them. And gets them some answers - that is so important.

I started on Bextra last week also - not so much the miracle drug for me having lots of side effects and it just does not seemed to be stopping my pain. Maybe I need a little more medication.

I hope these guys get you going in the right direction. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

You take care and keep us updated.

Darlene

You may have found a Doctor w/o a God complex...they are few and far between, especially specialists...

He sounds like it is a step in the right direction...I ...like Peggy, will keep everything I can crossed, this means I won't be able to move until you start to feel better, and I hope he works fast, I have to move this week...

Your friends down here are praying for you:p

Oh Lauri,
How wonderful to find a human doctor and not a robot.

Sending you lots and good wishes and pixie dust!

My 15 yr old daughter was just prescribed Bextra for her severe cramps. Haven't filled the prescription yet, just the samples.

Good luck Lauri!

Lauri, I am so glad for the good news. Finding the "right" doctor is half the battle in a long term illness!

Like Donna I'm keeping everything crossed..... well almost everything, I kept getting dizzy everytime I crossed my eyes, so I had to give that up. :teeth:

Sending tons of warm Florida pixie dust your way!!!!

Lauri
Hugs (gentle of course!) to you! I am praying for you and for the doctor as well to have continued insight into your care.

But how old is this guy?

My doctor retired three weeks ago, and I adrift on a sea without my lighthouse. :(

Sandy and I hope all the news is good....

Lauri- this man sounds VERY VERY GOOD...I'm so happy you finally got to a "HUMAN" practitioner...starting from a clean slate is a SUPER positive sign...thumbs up and lots and lots of Pixie Dust!!!

Yes Yes and Yes I have a good feeling about this doctor, and I'm thrilled you got to go to him. Fingers are crossed not that you'll need it. This time I bet it will be different, and you'll see some great results.

Hey have I been wrong yet;)

Now hurry up get better I need a ride buddy Donna's wimpping out.:p

Lauri,

Hi, Well, I have been diagnosed now for the past
2 years as most of my pin friends know. I have the
Fibro, IBS & Chronic Fatig.......which once you hit
rock bottom they all feed off each other.

1) You need to get "REAL" sleep. This is a major
part to your healing. I have learned the hard way
and I am very strong headed. (did I say that - lol).

2) I also had Bextra given to me, it just helped a bit.
It like many other drugs have different effects on each
person.

3) Here is where my tables turned a bit for the better -
I do not know what your doctor might think, but just
what happened to me to start on a different road.
I had 90 days of prednezone (I think that is the correct
spelling) as my Dr. started to decrease the prednezone
I started taking Plaquinil (200mg) a day. Some people
might need a higher dose.

On really bad days when I just could not take it I did
have cortozone shots in different areas. But only when
I just could not deal with it and the medication just was
not working. That did help subside the pain some (time
to regrip :)

4) I did take 1 oz of fresh squeezed wheat grass which
helps build back your immune system. I did it everyday for
30 days or a bit longer. Tastes like a cow grazing :) but
it did do something. But it must be taken fresh squeezed.

If anything I understand, the ups and downs and the pain!!!!
It really makes you feel by yourself alot, but with a great
family and great friends it helps get you through some tough
times!!!

I do not think they really have a cure, for now, but only
things to help take some of the pain away and help you
each day. Take each day as it comes.

I do know that John Hopkins Hospital in Maryland is one
of the leading hospitals in the country researching this
disease. Also, there is a huge society in Arizona. They
might have additional info.

If you ever need to talk please call me anytime!!!! It will
be ok, with all of us letting each other know what helps or
what doesnt it might make our days here and there a little
better!!! :)

Major Hugs and I look forward to hearing your progress!!!

Lauri, I am SO GLAD to hear you've found a HUMAN doctor--- I hope he is finally able to start doing things right for you!
HUGS!!!!
Kathi
