LOL, what a cool little store!
my dd wanted some of the manic panic color so we went in for some.
I definitely felt like a fish out of water, but it was fun anyway, and the people working there were so nice :)
didn't even look surprised at a 40 something mom in the store! haha

we are putting a streak in her hair later,
has anyone used the manic panic color?

yes and duh my dd hair was wet and it didn't take much. I told her we would try it again when mom could do it the right way.
:confused3Not sure what I was thinking.

I love Hot Topic.. :thumbsup2

Im a 40 yr old mom and I do sometimes feel odd going in there, but they have the nicest kids working there.. Noone ever blinks an eye at me when Im in there..

I love the cool 80's band tshirts in there.. me and DH go in there when we go to the mall and sometimes just look around and sometimes to buy..

Try to wrap your hair in saran wrap and use a blow dryer to heat/set the color in, helps to keep the color from just running out and down the drain :)

If you go to Manic Panic's website they have tips and pictures on there and some commenters will give tips as well.

:lmao: same here! I was just in there to return a Linkin Park tshirt I had bought DS for xmas. I thought I was a hip mom getting that on my own but then in the car one day he was telling me how "uncool" that band is now so I was off to exchange the shirt. The kids that work in the store can look intimidating to a late 40's mom but they are so nice and helpful. Reinforces the old saying "don't judge a book by its cover" :)

but I can blow dry:thumbsup2

Exactly!!

they were so nice and helpful

If you're/she's loooking for brighter color with a little staying power, Manic Panic isn't what you need. I'd go with Hot Topic's "Color Fiend" line instead. I think there are 3 degrees of semi-permanence from brush in and wash out, to color that stays about 4 weeks.

no its just to stay for a little bit and wash out.
we want temporary. plus I don't want to do anything too harsh to her hair. we are not bleaching first either.
the blue shows up pretty well just sitting over her natural color, which is light.
:thumbsup2

I didn't see Color Fiend in the store , I did see another one called Raw something or other

Raw should work just as well :) The good thing about the "unnatural" colors is that they don't harm the hair (unless you bleach it first and the bleach is the harmful part.)

Sounds fun! :) I like little streaks of color, very cute!

my DD loves HT - especially the tees!

they also have cute Disney stuff! I have picked up quite a few pins/buttons there - they have stuff from P&F, Kingdom Keepers, and Epic Mickey - in the past they have had nice Tink/Princesses tees.

wish I could help with the hair dye, but so far I have been chicken and have been paying our hair stylist to do DD's hair!

We love Hot Topic!!!! I'm 39 and I want to shop there for me! LOL They have the cutest steampunk style dresses right now.....I love them! DD14 wanted a certain Harry Potter shirt but I didn't see it when I was there yesterday so I didn't get anything, that's very rare for me, I normally buy something every time I'm in there. I'm a member of their savings club and I think I have a $5 certificate to use..hmmmm I need to go check that email. lol

That's funny that you should post this. I was there last week getting a b-day gift for dd's friend and I commented to DH how friendly the cashier was.:thumbsup2

LOL just don't buy the Avenged Sevenfold shirt!! DS picked that up and I didn't realize it had the song title on the back. It has the F word on it. Back to the store that went!!!

And ours has the coolest employees ever too!! I've been in a few times and the girl at the register knew who I was, what bands DS liked, and even set aside a Jack Skellington belt buckle for DS.

not true, Manic Panic stays in my hair a long time. But everyone's hair is different. Some people's hair takes better to one brand, while it doesn't take well to another. For instance, Manic Panic is the only kind of that color that comes out really nice and stays a long time in my hair. Therefore that's the brand I've been using the longest(on and off for about 11 years!). Punky Color has nice colors, but barely lasts in my hair a few weeks. I used to be able to find a brand called Fudge that lasted well too, but the place I got it from stopped carrying it and haven't been able to find it since.

OP:I just dyed my again this past summer with Manic panic. I mixed together Cotton Candy Pink and Red Passion to create my own color!

I bleach out my hair a few days before I dye it:

then when I go to do the color, I put it on early in the day and leave it on for as much of the day as I can, wrapped in saran wrap. Then rinse it out. I mix leftover color with some plain shampoo to replenish the color as needed.

ETA: I buy my Manic Panic either from Sally's Beauty Supply or from the Manic Panic website since no stores carry a decent selection of the colors!

You can make colored streaks with Kool Aid, youtube the instructions. This is how we made streaks when I was a kid. Sallys Beauty Supply also carried Manic Panic and some other brands of bright colors.

We just bought the colored streak in the Hot Topic store for my DD who wanted it for breast cancer awareness month. Thankfully the cheer coach would not let her dye it.

I am not crazy about that store at all, it kind of scares me. :rotfl2: My kids like some of the things in there though. They had a few new Alice in Wonderland things not to long ago that my DD wanted. That's about all I have ever bought there. While I am not a fan, the people have always been nice.

My DD 14 loves HT.Even DS 7 like to go in there and look around. I'm not crazy about it, but it could be worse. Every time we go in there the people are so nice.
