Went into Hot Topic yesterday for the first time.......

about the employees:

I post the same thing every time we have one of those "do you want to be waited on by someone with....piercings, tatoos, plugs, etc...threads.

some of the nicest and most personable clerks ever!!!:)

I love Hot Topic! I was just in there today and I am a 35 year old mom! DD is almost 13 and she loves it in there too! They have the best Nightmare B4 Xmas stuff in the fall. I love all the t-shirts from my favorite books/movies/shows. Also they have great band t's and I like getting them there b4 we go to a concert, better than paying $50 for one at the concert! The employees are always so nice and helpful.

My middle son worked at Hot Topic for a couple years when he was a senior in high school/freshman in college. I liked his boss (who wore Levis and polo shirts and had no piercings or visible tatoos) and the kids he worked with very much. DS was their diversity as he had no piercings or tatoos (did have long hair, though)!

I think it's weird to be afraid of a mall clothing store. My straight-laced SIL questioned me about "letting" DS work there. What the heck -- it's not like they were having smoke-ins and seances around the cash register!

I was there last week. Great steampunk-y accessories & stuff for my kiddos too.

I have to laugh though because every time I go in there & make a purchase I set off the alarm on the way out. This last time I looked at the gal & joked 'Its because I'm over 30 isn't it?' She laughed, apologized again & said no.

LOL, what a cool little store!
my dd wanted some of the manic panic color so we went in for some.
I definitely felt like a fish out of water, but it was fun anyway, and the people working there were so nice :)
didn't even look surprised at a 40 something mom in the store! haha

we are putting a streak in her hair later,
has anyone used the manic panic color?

I glad to see that you liked the store and had a good experience! I think people tend to think it's weird and what have you. But everytime I visit, there so super nice! I buy a lot of band t-shirts and hello kitty items, so I tend to spend quite a lot! :goodvibes

not true, Manic Panic stays in my hair a long time. But everyone's hair is different. Some people's hair takes better to one brand, while it doesn't take well to another. For instance, Manic Panic is the only kind of that color that comes out really nice and stays a long time in my hair. Therefore that's the brand I've been using the longest(on and off for about 11 years!). Punky Color has nice colors, but barely lasts in my hair a few weeks. I used to be able to find a brand called Fudge that lasted well too, but the place I got it from stopped carrying it and haven't been able to find it since.

OP:I just dyed my again this past summer with Manic panic. I mixed together Cotton Candy Pink and Red Passion to create my own color!

I bleach out my hair a few days before I dye it:

then when I go to do the color, I put it on early in the day and leave it on for as much of the day as I can, wrapped in saran wrap. Then rinse it out. I mix leftover color with some plain shampoo to replenish the color as needed.

ETA: I buy my Manic Panic either from Sally's Beauty Supply or from the Manic Panic website since no stores carry a decent selection of the colors!
looks great, love the color!

We just bought the colored streak in the Hot Topic store for my DD who wanted it for breast cancer awareness month. Thankfully the cheer coach would not let her dye it.

I saw those colored streaks! I thought of getting one for her

well my update is, I should have used the bleach kit.
it does not come out as bright as when we did it at the salon. they didn't bleach at the salon and the blue was very bright and lasted about 2 wks I think. ( it was the paul mitchell color )
well the manic panic did not come out nearly as bright and the next day after washing it turned green.
so I think since she only wants a streak I will let her do the bleach so it will actually look blue :)
they must sell the bleach kits at sally's

that store was around while i was in high school..

Kari used to dye her hair green, using manic panic. Started as a halloween costume to be a Turtle (TMNT), and kind of stuck for years later. Since she has almost black hair, she bleached her hair prior to putting the green in, but it stuck for a good 3-6 months. Since she had short hair that grew fast, she had to redo as her hair grew out.

The longer it sits, the better color saturation.

My DH & I both go in to our local Hot Topic regularly. We are now both in our 50's. They used to carry some great embroidered appliques including Tinkerbell. DH got a couple for bands that he likes.

I agree the staff in our store are always really pleasant and helpful. I got a great Tinkerbell blanket from there.

Years ago I had the pleasure of taking my 70 yr old FIL on a Hot Topic field trip. He owns stock and wanted to see the store that was doing so well :rotfl2:
The store really fun. I like that the merchandise is not gross like what Spencer's has evolved into. Their t's and Disney stuff rock!
