Ooooh, ooooh! I have a story! I went spelunking under the vines and brush along the old right-of-way behind 700 loop and found a spike! It was just laying to the side of the old ties, probably pulled when they removed the rails, and forgotten. It is clearly from a smaller scale train than modern railways as the spike is maybe 60% normal size. Anyway, pretty cool souvenir in my book.

Hey Lone-Star! I somehow just found this and am enjoying your pictures. I was glad to get to meet you and your wife while I was talking with Donnie on the side of the road on Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. (You stopped to make sure we hadn't broken down. I looked horrendous, just having gone for a run which included retrieving the cart from the Settlement.)

Anyway, I thought I'd say hi! Hope you are well now - sounds like a rough end to your trip!

Really enjoying your pictures Michael. :thumbsup2
What exactly, is school bread ?

Glad you like the pic's
I found this on allears. Its really good.

School Bread
A Norwegian Specialty
Baked sweet dough filled with pastry cream
topped with toasted coconut

Just in case you are a cook.

Ingredients

2 pints water
3 ounces dry yeast
3 1/2 ounces sugar
2 1/2 ounces butter (melted)
1 teaspoon cardamom
2 pounds flour
1 whole egg
8 ounces shredded coconut
12 ounces vanilla custard

Method

Heat water and butter to 95 degrees. Mix flour, sugar, cardamom, yeast, and egg together for five minutes until dough is stiff. Form it like a ball and place in a bowl, cover with plastic wrap and let proof for 45 minutes, or until dough has doubled in size. Roll the dough out like a sausage and cut into five ounce pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and put them on a non-stick sheet pan and let them proof for 30 minutes. Bake for 15 minutes in 375 degree oven. Let cool.

Mix powdered sugar and water (use small amounts until proper consistency is achieved) to make icing and place in shallow pan. Form hole in bread using finger. Dip bread in icing (hole side down) and sprinkle with shredded coconut. Using pastry bag, squeeze vanilla custard inside of hole and swirl at top for decoration.

Vanilla Custard

Ingredients

1 2/3 cups milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 egg yolks
1 tablespoon corn starch

Method

In heavy saucepan bring milk to a boil. Set aside. In bowl, beat eggs, sugar, and vanilla until the mixture doubles by volume. Add the hot milk a few drops at a time to temper the eggs. Mix well after each addition. Place in metal mixing bowl and place over double boiler. Dissolve cornstarch in a little water and add in a thin stream while stirring constantly until it thickens to proper consistency. It must not boil. Cool by placing pan in ice bath.

We always watch this show in France. It had a new guy wearing the chiefs hat but it was still good and I don't remember the bottle of wine. It's also a good reason to get 2 frozen mix drinks there in France to watch the show. 1 Orange 1 Lemon. Now on with the pics.

Where is that swamp located? That is so gross. :scared:

If you go past the 2000 loop to the group camping/tenting area take a right and there is a sandy parking area drive to the end of it and look to the left and there it is.

Here is a few more pics. The first one shows where they could put in counter service quite easy.
