Well, this trip was....different. UPDATE - 9/1!

Sounds like a great getaway. I've heard good things from people who've visited the Great Wolf Lodge in Wisconsin, but I've never been myself.

The ice sculptures are awesome! What a fun thing for the kids!

Too bad the polar express was a disappointment. Seems like a ton of those have popped up around here in the last few years. We've never done any of them because Maddie might not make the Polar Express connection. She's more of an Elf kind of girl. :rotfl:

That looks like it was a really fun way to spend a 4 day weekend. Reid looks like he was having an absolute blast.

We've talked about going to the Great Wolf Lodge at Cincinnati. We'll probably get there one of these days. :rotfl2:

There's a Great Wolf in the Poconos not too far away. But I always wondered if it's enough to keep the crazy kiddos happy! Thanks for the review Amanda! Looks like a blast :thumbsup2

Great review of the Great Wolf Lodge! Its on my list of things to do when (and if) we ever get to Norfolk, since Williamsburg is only 45 min away. Good to see the magic game interested Reid, I was afraid it might be to complicated for the little boys!

We did a santa train ride this weekend also, and I didn't think it was all that exciting, but the train ride was enough for Everett. He had no interest in Santa :rotfl:

Glad you guys had such a nice holiday weekend!

Reid's smiles are so big it looks like his cheeks must hurt...:thumbsup2 :lmao:

Sounds like a great time...

Hmmm... I'm about an hour and a half from the Poconos... will have to check out their website...:surfweb:

hey Amanda!

I am in the process of catching up but I wanted to comment on what I've read so far.

Thanks for the pics & review of Beach Club. I always thought I would love to stay there but now I'm not sure it would be worth the extra money from a moderate. :scratchin Your room looked nice though & I would love the location! We have never been over to the Boardwalk area, I really want to check that out next time.

The pool pics of Reid are precious! I thought your pics were gorgeous btw.

Onto the races, I think you did amazing! I think you should both be very proud of your times & what you have accomplished. I enjoyed Ed's report of the race, I feel like I was there!

I'm sorry the Villàins bash was underwhelming but it seems like you & Reid enjoyed yourselves. I love the dancing pics & TSMM is always fun!

I would love to make it to Beaches & Cream one day. Anthony would love Reid's Mickey sundae. I want a No Way Jose so badly. My only problem is that no one else in my family would help me eat it.

Old Key West looks really pretty. I'm sorry about the room confusion though. Now I'm off to read some more, I can't wait to read about MNSSHP

I loved your report of Seuss Landing! It's a favorite of my families as well! When my sister was six or so, she rode The Cat in the Hat ride over 10 times in one day since she couldn't do the roller coasters with the older siblings! My dad was so sick of the ride at one point he actually went and bought her a Dr. Seuss t-shirt and told my sister is was a gift from the employees for riding the ride the most times in one day! :rotfl: Great trip report so far!

Aww, it looks like yall had a great time! There's a Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg (as you posted haha) which is about an hour from here, and I've seen it in passing many times, and have always wondered what it was like inside. So awesome!

Love your holiday weekend getaway! I have always wanted to try GWL. We have one pretty local (I guess it is about an hour or so away) I have never been cause... the rate is sooo high. I actually priced out a vacay there and even though we would not have to pay for airfare it still made more sense to go to WDW. (even though WDW is on the opposite corner of the country)

We did a Santa train one time with the kids. ONCE We stood out in the cold for EVER and then it wasn't all that exciting. That was 16 years ago... oh my, how time flies.

i just read your MNSSHP updates. It sounds like you all had a great night! I'm sooo glad the rain stopped & you were able to stay so late & enjoy so much of the party.

Your costumes were awesome!

I cracked up at Reid telling that women who Zurg is & then talking about Toy Story. Its great that he was giving her the Disney facts!

That castle pic is awesome! The perfect Halloween party pic.

I understand the attitude you were describing. I have had the stroller shade thing pulled down on me many a time. I don't think you were being mean at all.

I loved your fireworks story though. I'm glad he wanted to watch the fireworks & enjoyed them. It sounds like a great moment. Isn't it funny how kids can be little deviants one minute & sweet angels the next?

The princess pics were soooo good! I'm glad he agreed to meet them. The Mickey/Minnie pics were precious too. Reid has such a cute smile.

You had a great spot for the 2nd parade! It looks amazing! How cute was Reid dancing beforehand? It sounds like you got a lot of cool interaction throughout the parade!

The pics with Buzz are adorable. You can tell Reid is meeting his hero!

Ok! I'm caught up! Phew! Things at school have been CRAZY!

Congrats on a new trip!! Woohoo!! I hope you can keep it a secret! That is so much fun! Reid would be so excited!

I've only been to Universal once, long before Harry Potter, but I do remember Seusse Landing! How cute! You took some beautiful pictures too!

Funny story, I actually slipped and fell on my way to the restroom in the food court in that area! The floor was wet, and I was hurrying, and before I knew it I was on the ground!! :rotfl: The food court was pretty crowded, so I'm sure a lot of people got a great show! It was one of the most hilarious and embarrassing things I've done in a while! A man was walking by as it happened, and started to help, but stopped and walked away! :confused3:rotfl: The best part is, when I came out of the restroom, there was a "caution wet floor" sign where I had fallen! It was awful!!!

What a great holiday! I've been to the Great Wolf Lodge in Virginia and loved it!! Reid looks like he had a lot of fun!! :thumbsup2

Seuss Landing looks like a lot of fun!

Yay for another trip! I hope you are able to keep the secret & get the hotel accommodations you want.

Your mini trip looks fun! The hotel looks really cute. My sister & her family have been to the one in VA & I know they had a great time.

I'm glad you had a great Thanksgiving.:goodvibes

Great Wolf Lodge looks really fun! :goodvibes

I can't believe you all got such great spots for the second parade at MNSSHP! That's the best parade. Reid looked so cute meeting all the princes and princesses. I can never talk my guys into princesses, but maybe if the princes were there it'd be different.

I love IOA. i still remember our first trip there. My cousin who is know 12 was about 3 maybe 4 and she loved the carosuessel..sorry i don't know how to spell it, but we could not get her off. she rode 5 times in a row we had to pull her off.

That trip looks like so much fun. The resort looks amazing. I have seen those commercials a few times.

Wow, you know I have never thought of going to Great Wolf Lodge. We do have one near us (about 1 hour) and now I am thinking it looks great! What an amazing job on the kids part of your room! Reid looks like he had so much fun!:goodvibes

We really had a lot of fun there. I don't know that I would go there for a long vacation but I would definitely go back for a 3 or 4 day getaway.

We've been to the Great Wolf Lodge in Wisconsin (and part of reason WL at Disney holds no interest for me) and it was spectacular. You can certainly see that Reid is having a grand time....that smile of his is contagious.

Thank you! He really had so much fun and is still talking about it!

:rotfl:

We really had a lot of fun! I was skeptical going into it but it turned out to be a fun resort.

The ice sculptures were really neat! I was glad they handed out big coats though. Us southerners can't deal with that kind of cold. :lmao:

I love Elf! That is one of my favorite Christmas movies. We watch it a lot over here!

That looks like it was a really fun way to spend a 4 day weekend. Reid looks like he was having an absolute blast.

We've talked about going to the Great Wolf Lodge at Cincinnati. We'll probably get there one of these days. :rotfl2:

He had so much fun! And it really wore him out which was nice for us. :rotfl:

I would definitely check out! I think they vary a little from location to location but they all seem like fun places to get away to.

There's a Great Wolf in the Poconos not too far away. But I always wondered if it's enough to keep the crazy kiddos happy! Thanks for the review Amanda! Looks like a blast :thumbsup2

I think if you're doing a 3 or 4 night get away, the kids would definitely have fun and not get bored.

Thanks! That would be so great if it's only a 45 minute drive for y'all! I told Ed that I want to go to that one because I'd also like to go do all the historical stuff in that area. We had to figure out the clues for Reid when it came to the magic game but he still had fun pointing his wand at everything.

That's funny that Everett had no interest in Santa. Reid could hardly even talk to Santa he was in suc awe.

Reid's smiles are so big it looks like his cheeks must hurt...:thumbsup2 :lmao:

Sounds like a great time...

Hmmm... I'm about an hour and a half from the Poconos... will have to check out their website...:surfweb:

I love it when I can get pictures of him smiling naturally.

We had so much fun! Definitely check out the website....I would say it's worth checking out at least once maybe for a short getaway.

Thanks for the pics & review of Beach Club. I always thought I would love to stay there but now I'm not sure it would be worth the extra money from a moderate. :scratchin Your room looked nice though & I would love the location! We have never been over to the Boardwalk area, I really want to check that out next time.

You're welcome! The location is great and if you spend a lot of time at EPCOT and/or DHS, it would be worth it. I do think we would like Boardwalk or Yacht Club better.

The pool pics of Reid are precious! I thought your pics were gorgeous btw.

Thank you!!

Onto the races, I think you did amazing! I think you should both be very proud of your times & what you have accomplished. I enjoyed Ed's report of the race, I feel like I was there!

Thank you so much! I'm proud of us for finishing them.

I'm sorry the Villàins bash was underwhelming but it seems like you & Reid enjoyed yourselves. I love the dancing pics & TSMM is always fun!

I was so happy to get us on TSMM so quickly and for 2 rides! We did have a fun night even if we didn't do the sorts of things I thought we would.

I would love to make it to Beaches & Cream one day. Anthony would love Reid's Mickey sundae. I want a No Way Jose so badly. My only problem is that no one else in my family would help me eat it.

You should definitely go to B&C! It really is yummy!! It's ok if no one would help you with the Sundae....get it anyway!

Old Key West looks really pretty. I'm sorry about the room confusion though. Now I'm off to read some more, I can't wait to read about MNSSHP

I was surprisingly happy with OKW.

Thank you!! I am right there with your dad....it was a cute ride the first 2 times we rode it. Then, I was over it. :lmao:

Aww, it looks like yall had a great time! There's a Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg (as you posted haha) which is about an hour from here, and I've seen it in passing many times, and have always wondered what it was like inside. So awesome!

We did a Santa train one time with the kids. ONCE We stood out in the cold for EVER and then it wasn't all that exciting. That was 16 years ago... oh my, how time flies.

Yeah, when my sister told me how much my room was, I was like :scared1:! I even told Ed, "I could go to Disney on a value budget for this!" But, I kept my mouth shut and went. I have to say I'm glad I did. I wouldn't go there all the time but I would go back for a short getaway.

This was our 1st Santa train. I don't see us doing another one in the future.

i just read your MNSSHP updates. It sounds like you all had a great night! I'm sooo glad the rain stopped & you were able to stay so late & enjoy so much of the party.

It really turned out to be my favorite night of our trip. The party is so much fun!

Your costumes were awesome!

Thank you!!

I cracked up at Reid telling that women who Zurg is & then talking about Toy Story. Its great that he was giving her the Disney facts!

He talks a lot as it is but if you get him started on something he really knows....look out! :lmao:

That castle pic is awesome! The perfect Halloween party pic.

Thanks! I thought it looked cool.

I understand the attitude you were describing. I have had the stroller shade thing pulled down on me many a time. I don't think you were being mean at all.

I'm so glad I'm not alone. And that it doesn't seem mean how I acted.

I loved your fireworks story though. I'm glad he wanted to watch the fireworks & enjoyed them. It sounds like a great moment. Isn't it funny how kids can be little deviants one minute & sweet angels the next?

Thanks....it really ended up being a nice moment. It's so frustrating how they do that to us though.

The princess pics were soooo good! I'm glad he agreed to meet them. The Mickey/Minnie pics were precious too. Reid has such a cute smile.

Thank you! I still can't believe he agreed to meet princesses! :rotfl:

You had a great spot for the 2nd parade! It looks amazing! How cute was Reid dancing beforehand? It sounds like you got a lot of cool interaction throughout the parade!

I'm so glad we stayed for that 2nd parade. It really was the highlight of our night.

The pics with Buzz are adorable. You can tell Reid is meeting his hero

He was beyond excited to be seeing him!

Ok! I'm caught up! Phew! Things at school have been CRAZY!

I completely understand! I've been so busy I feel like I can hardly keep up with my own TR! :rotfl2:

Congrats on a new trip!! Woohoo!! I hope you can keep it a secret! That is so much fun! Reid would be so excited!

Thanks! I really hope it all works out and that I can keep my pie hole shut. :lmao:

I've only been to Universal once, long before Harry Potter, but I do remember Seusse Landing! How cute! You took some beautiful pictures too!

Thank you! I love taking pictures there. I feel like it's a very bold & vibrant park.

Funny story, I actually slipped and fell on my way to the restroom in the food court in that area! The floor was wet, and I was hurrying, and before I knew it I was on the ground!! :rotfl: The food court was pretty crowded, so I'm sure a lot of people got a great show! OMG! You poor thing! I wonder why the man walked away. That's so odd!

What a great holiday! I've been to the Great Wolf Lodge in Virginia and loved it!! Reid looks like he had a lot of fun!! :thumbsup2

It really was a lot of fun!

Seuss Landing looks like a lot of fun!

We really ended up having a nice morning over there.

Yay for another trip! I hope you are able to keep the secret & get the hotel accommodations you want.

I'm crossing my fingers & toes that it'll all work out. I need y'all to talk to so that maybe I won't talk to Reid about it. :lmao:

Your mini trip looks fun! The hotel looks really cute. My sister & her family have been to the one in VA & I know they had a great time.

It's a really fun place!

I'm glad you had a great Thanksgiving.:goodvibes

Thank you! Hope y'all did as well!

We had so much at Great Wolf Lodge! I would definitely go there again for a short trip.

I was so surprised he agreed to meet the princesses. I think he was having so much fun he would have agreed to just about anything. :lmao: And I'm really glad we stuck around for the 2nd parade. It was fantastic!

I love IOA. i still remember our first trip there.

You cousin sounds like Reid....except it was Cat in the Hat he kept riding. :rotfl2: It is a fun area though.

It was such a fun little getaway!

When the guys got off of the Carousel, we headed to something we’ve never checked out in Seuss Landing:

This is an area for kids to run around in and explore different little things to play with, all based on the story “If I Ran the Zoo”.

Reid giving me yet another pirate face:

Once we were done exploring, we headed to the Trolley in the Sky (I can’t remember if that’s the official name or not).

You start your train ride by riding through the top of the Circus McGurkus Cafe:

A view of Harry Potter land from the trolley:

We had a really nice view of The Hulk from up in the sky. I couldn’t wait to get on this:

After our ride, we headed here for some refreshments:

With our thirsts quenched, we headed out of Seuss Landing and into Marvel SuperHero Island!

When we got there, we noticed that, for some unknown reason, the Spiderman ride was just opening. We quickly got in line before it got crowded. Now, Reid had been talking about riding this for months. He had watched videos on YouTube and was so excited. So, I was quite surprised when he got scared as we were walking through the line. So much so that Ed had to pick him up. We got up to where you get your 3D glasses and he was insistent on not riding. Thankfully, there was no wait whatsoever because we were able just to keep him walking and quickly get him into a ride vehicle. I knew he would have fun if he just did it.

Once he was on the ride, he was able to calm down. And, within, seconds, he was having lots of fun! When the ride was over he said he loved it. I told him, “See? You should just trust me instead of trying to fight me on everything.” Unfortunately, that was the theme of the trip and is still happening at home these days. Anyway........

We decided to hop across the street to go meet Spiderman. Although the wait wasn’t terrible, it was probably the longest character line we stood in during the entire trip. I tried to pass the time by taking some pictures.

Doc Ock:

Reid practicing his Spiderman moves:

Then, it was finally our time to meet Spidey:

Now, if y’all don’t mind, I’m going to take a moment to gripe about meet and greets at IoA. First of all, Spiderman is the only character that has a line that is organized. All the other characters are just out on the street, without a handler, and the lines are every which way. Some people in line get so close to the character that I don’t see how some people get good pics of their family with the character. My other complaint about meeting Spiderman is that darn green screen behind him. Basically, if you want a nice looking picture with him, you will have to purchase their picture that has a fancy background. So a big win to Disney on their character meets being organized and not forcing you to purchase their picture just to have a decent looking background.

Okay, moving on......after you meet Spiderman, you have to walk through a gift shop. So, we did a little bit of shopping/looking in there:

Surprisingly, Reid didn’t find anything he had to have. So, we headed back out.

Wolverine:

Reid wanted his picture taken here:

And then we actually saw Wolverine! Reid shocked me yet again by saying he didn’t want to meet him. Wolverine is one of his favorites!

We also saw Dr. Doom, Green Goblin and Cyclops walking around.

I was starting to get hungry but Reid wanted to take one more picture first.

Continuation coming right up......

For lunch, we headed to the Fantastic Four diner. They had just opened so we were some of the first people in there and it wasn’t crowded at all. Reid had cheese pizza. Ed and I both had pepperoni pizza with breadsticks. Everything was very hot, fresh and quite yummy! And it wasn’t badly priced: $25 for 3 big slices of pizza, 2 breadsticks, a milk and 2 LARGE bottles of water.

With lunch completed, the guys did a quick potty break and then we were back on our way. I was really hoping that Reid would take a nap after lunch in his stroller. I got him in the stroller and told Ed to start walking around the park.

We started here:

This is Dudley Do Right’s Ripsaw Falls:

Ed and I love, love, love this ride!! I don’t normally like water rides but this one is lots of fun. But, be warned: You get REALLY wet on this ride. We didn’t ride this time, just watched for a bit.

Next, up was:

When we got into this area, Reid started to get antsy. He was already tired of being in his stroller and was complaining to get out. So, I decided to go here and let him roam a bit:

We cooled down in there for a bit. Did I tell y’all how unbelievable HOT it was?!?!?! Anyway, we continued on and were soon entering the Harry Potter area:

We had gone to IoA in December 2010. We rode the Harry Potter ride in the castle and had eaten lunch in the Three Broomsticks. I will say that the food at the Three Broomsticks was very good and I would eat there again. As for the ride, I really have no desire to do it again. It’s hard to explain. It is a fun ride but some parts of it utilize those big screens (IMAX, maybe?) and they just made me feel really sick. Even Ed didn’t want to ride it this time so we kept walking through.

It started to drizzle on us but we continued on our way and ended up back at Seuss Landing. The rain had stopped and Reid wanted to go on Cat in the Hat....again. When we got off the ride it was absolutely pouring outside! Of course, I didn’t have the rain cover on the stroller, so I went to go get it to bring it in the store with us. Then, I had to take Reid for a potty break. When we came out, the rain had stopped and it was sunny again.

Reid insisted on riding Cat in the Hat....yes, again! So, we did it for the last time. After riding that about 4 or 5 times that day, it was time for Mommy and Daddy to get to have some fun!

So, we headed back to SuperHero Island. Reid and I found a shady spot to sit while Ed went off to ride the Hulk. There was hardly any line and he was off in no time! Then it was my turn! I love this ride so much. I can’t even begin to explain my love for that roller coaster. It’s just divine!

When I got off and got back to the guys, they were enjoying some nice cold ICEE’s and they had got me one, too! Reid and I enjoyed our ICEE’s while Ed took off to ride Dr. Doom’s Fearfall. That is his favorite ride. I despise it more than words can express.

Once he was done, we decided we were done at IoA. I strapped Reid in the stroller and we started making our way out of the park at 2:15 pm. Within 5 minutes, Reid was completely knocked out.

We arrived back at OKW around 3 pm. The guys both napped while I journaled and uploaded/edited pictures. Around 4:30 pm, I started getting ready for our date night! Ed got up and we tried to get Reid up. But, he just wasn’t very happy about waking up. I let him lie in bed and just turned on the Disney channel. After a few minutes of watching Phineas and Ferb, he was finally agreeable to getting up and getting ready.

We decided to drive again this night and left OKW at 6 pm. By 6:15 pm, we arrived at the Poly. We parked and quickly found our way to the Neverland Club:

Upon checking in, they will get contact information from you. Including an emergency contact who is not with you. You are also able to pick what they have for dinner as well as a snack if they will be there after 10 pm. Reid was so anxious to get in there and play!

I think it’s so cute that they have to go through the nursery window to get to the club area. And the CM doing check-in held a “pixie wand” above his head to help him “fly”.

After that we were on our way to the monorail! We didn’t have to wait long and were soon at Grand Floridian. This was my first time stepping into this resort so we did a little bit of sightseeing since we were early. It is very pretty here but I don’t know if I’d want to stay there with Reid. Maybe on a couples trip.

We decided to go ahead and check-in early for our ADR here:

It was 6:50 pm when we checked in for our 7:15 pm ADR. We sat at a little table near the check-in desk. At 7 pm, our buzzer went off. We were seated at a nice table for two overlooking the open kitchen. I will apologize that I did not take any pictures of our food or in the restaurant. I was really just enjoying our time together too much.

The service took a little while to get started. But, once it did, our server Nancy really was fantastic the rest of the time. Since it was our first time eating there, the chef sent out a special little bite for us to try.

It was an anchovy with honey and some sort of puree. Even though we don’t eat anchovies, we thought we should just try it since it was just one bite. Yeah, it was disgusting.

Thankfully, our appetizers were much, much better!

Ed had the Panadas (from allears: spiced & slow-cooked beef in crisp phyllo with Tamarind sauce). These were outstanding! The flavoring is excellent!

I went with the Sauteed Shrimp (from allears: lemon, white wine, tomatoes and feta cheese). I loved this! It was very light and fresh tasting!

Now, I will tell you that the entrees do take a little while to cook and they warn you about this. But, the wait is very worth it!

Ed’s entree was the Braised Veal Shank (from allears: carrot-potato mash, roasted vegetables, and toasted citrus Gremolata). Now, I’m sure he didn’t eat the mash or the vegetables but he loved the veal! He didn’t even need a knife, it literally just fell off with the touch of his fork.

I decided on the Madeira-braised Short Ribs (from allears: Trofie pasta, wild mushroom ragout, and truffly creme fraiche). OMG!!! This was delicious! I couldn’t stop eating it even when I was beyond full. The meat was so tender and practically melted in my mouth. And the pasta and sauce were also very good.

Then it was time for the best course of any meal....dessert!

Ed’s choice was the Warm Chocolate-Banana Torte (from allears: with vanilla ice cream and handcrafted Belgium Couverture Chocolate Crown). Ed thought this was great!

I decided to stray from my normal choice (Tiramisu) and went instead with the Lemon-scented cheesecake. From allears: with a blanket of white chocolate Ganache. This was heavenly!!

And one other thing I had with my meal: a Tropical Mojito. This was quite good! It was a little strong for me but I don’t drink often so that’s probably why I thought that.

Just to give you an idea about the length of dinner: we were seated at 7 pm and finished up around 8:30-8:45 pm. Overall, the service was excellent. And the food was phenomenal! I would most definitely go back to Citricos! And I urge all of you to go as well. Seriously! Go....NOW! What are y’all waiting on?

I am very glad that we chose to do a date night in Disney and I can see us doing this again on future trips. After dinner, we made our way back to the Poly via monorail. We picked up Reid at 9 pm. He had so much fun that he asked if he could go back the next night. All 3 of us were pleased with the Neverland Club and would definitely utilize this service again. Reid was there for about 2 1/2 hours and it costs $28.50 including dinner. Not bad, if you ask me!

We left the Poly and arrived at OKW around 9:30 pm. Everyone was sound asleep by 10 pm.

Finally caught up.

GWL looks like a ton of fun. I know that kids just love it there. I think my kids were a little too old by the time they got popular. The room is very cute. What a fun experience for the cooler weather.

Thank you for posting to pictures of the Gaylord Ice sculptures. I have always been curious to see the one in Orlando and now I know I definitely want to see it. I wonder when it starts in November. Very cool.

IOA looks like a ton of fun. I agree that the Hulk is one of the best coasters ever! :worship: You pictures turned out wonderful and all the pictures of Reid are great. Really good depth of field and he is so stinkin cute! Love the pirate face. :thumbsup2
