Okay,some of you may or may not be familiar with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
It was created by a young girl with cancer,with hopes to achieve a goal.
A goal to grant other kids with life-threatening illnesses wishes.
I have been granted a wish,and am extremely thankful.
The young girl's name was Hope Stout.

Hope never made it through her battle with cancer.
She died shortly after beginning chemo.
Her diagnosis: a rare bone cancer called 'Osteosarcoma'.
My diagnosis: a rare bone cancer called 'Osteosarcoma'.


Oy vey!
I'm almost done with chemo,and have a 75% survival rate,but still!
She is the only other girl I know with OS and she dies!
It scares the YKW outta me.

My parents think I'm over-reacting.
But would this skeeve you out too?

I totally understand what you are going through. I was just put on the heart/lung transplant list, and about a week later I read an article in SELF magazine about a woman who had a heart transplant, and, even though it saved her life, she's still sick 25 years later.

But then I met a guy who had a condition really similar to mine who got a transplant 2.5 years ago. He's completely healthy now. He didn't even have any sort of rejection.

So, even though you heard something awful, the universe will send you something positive soon.

Actually, Hope Stout went to the same school I spent 6th grade at. She lived down the street from some of my friends.

She didn't actually create the Make A Wish foundation, she just motivated them. When she was asked what she wished for, she wished that all the other kids could get their wishes.

And MAW has been on a mission to do that ever since.

My new school beta club is doing a huge fundraiser for Make A Wish from now until May.


It was on the other side of the county from where I am now, but considering that I was in the same school district as she was when she passed, it's a pretty big deal to me. I remember hearing about it, January 4, 2004. The Panthers were in the middle of a playoff game and when the news broke they talked about it on the broadcast.

It was a very big deal, locally. Very close to home.

But Hope's cancer was pretty severe, and they had trouble stopping it from spreading. From everything you've told us, it seems like they've done a good job of keeping it under control. Don't worry too much and stay positive!

I'm a MAW child myself. I actually have a form of anemia called Fanconi's Anemia, which is somewhat rare. Both parents must carry the gene, and even so, there's a 25% chance that their child will have this genetic disorder. I was that 25%. My condition isn't very severe, and I usually don't worry about it. It's actually been getting better in recent years. Still, MAW is a great foundation, and I continue to volunteer there (less now that I'm in HS)

honestly, i would b afraid, but than again, my grandmother had very bad cancer twice. doctors thouhgt she was a goner, and shes still with us today, healthier than ever

Sonya you are much stronger than you think you are. Stay possitive , always think of Jill , Jill is one of the hospital nurses where Sonya goes , she had osteosarcoma eight years ago in the same exact location , she was also a patient of the same oncologyst , she is living with NED ( no evidence of disease ) and doing great .
Everyone's case is different and yours was caught very very early , we have had some setbacks but we are in great hands.
I know some days you feel really crummy after the treatments but hang on honey , we are almost done , 6 more sessions and this will be all over and then we will go on to plan our so well deserved vacation.
