I guess disappointed isn't quite the right word to describe how sickened I am that 43% of Ontario voters chose to re elect a liar and a thief, instead of voting for a man of integrity. Oh well, you reap what you sow. He will continue to steal our money, lie to us, raise taxes, create new taxes and ignore health care. Maybe he will vote himself another $40K pay increase.

I wish I had some rose coloured glasses. We're gonna need them.

Agreed. Glad I didn't vote for him and our riding is NDP. I can't blame myself for the problems and lies we're facing.

DITTO! My mom worked in a polling station and out of 250 only 80 showed....I wonder if this was an issue everywhere?

That's disgraceful! Sometimes I wish that John Tory and Howard Hampton were a little less scrupulous, and had lowered themselves to the smear tactics and fear monger of the McGuinty camp. Maybe the result would have been different. Good for those men to stand up for what they believe in.

I am disappointed but not surprised. I didn't vote for Dalton the first time, I certainly didn't this time. I was hoping maybe for a minority this time round but that didn't happen either.

Hold on to your seatbelts folks....its going to be a bumpy ride.

Ummm... I'm a conservative right down to my socks and can't say I was at all surprised. Weenie-brain didn't WIN the election John Tory bent over backwards to give it to him.

It's a little embarassing.

Oh Please! If you actually believe there's a politician out there who isn't a liar, thief, etc. you're already wearing rose coloured glasses!

Did you not hear any John Tory ads? They were embarrassing. They were complete and utter McGuinty bashing. McGuinty was surprisingly quiet I thought.
I for one am glad he wasn't voted in. I'm not a McGuinty fan, but I was quite frightened of the views of John Tory and how he would slowly disassemble our education system and medical system. For those that have unlimited funds, it would have been great I suppose. For those of us in the real world, it would have dire consequences.
Frankly, Tory killed his own campaign with the faith based school issue. There were so many other important things he could have focused on but he didn't sadly.

I agree. There were lots of issues other than the faith based school funding that Tory could have focused on. I was still surprised that he lost in his riding. I live in that riding and many of my neighbours said they were voting for him. I also thought I saw a lot more Conservative signs there too. Oh well.

Maybe we should start a Disney clubhouse of some sort and then we'll get some money to fund our trips :rotfl: Until then, I guess I will be waiting for my promised day off in February.

The majority of politicians lie cheat and steal because we let them.pirate: When a politician is caught lying or stealing we as Canadians sit back, watch it on tv and do nothing. Until Canadians as a whole stand up and demand honest government and get off our butts and all vote we are stuck with what we got.

Tory DIDN'T focus on it, the Liberals did! Even after John Tory said "the people have spoken, we will have a free vote in the legistature" the Liberals still focused on it, when it was no longer an issue.

When an elected official is seeking re-election, they have to expect that their public record will be scrutinized. The Conservative and NDP ads didn't lie about Dalton McGuinty's record. He made promises to get elected that he didn't keep.

Can you elaborate on exactly how John Tory planned to "disassemble" our education and medical systems? All I know is $32 Million given away in tax payers' money could have paid for quite a few doctors, nurses, and teachers.

I'm just sayin...

There are no details on how Tory would have disassembled the education system and gutted health care because the Liberals (as usual) just used it as a scare tactic to make sure their core supporters voted them in again. My favourite Liberal ad was the one where Dolton McGumby was talking about what he has done for health care and at the end he says "You know what to do." and puts that smarmy smile on his face. I wanted to throw something at the TV. I swear we live in the dumbest province in Canada.

Ahhhhh excuse me but they're all politicians. Of course they all lie. And it doesn't matter which party you favour, they're all a bunch of snakes. Did you really expect anything else? :confused3

As for my vote, it wasn't so much who I thought would be the best leader but more a case of who I wouldn't want to see voted in. And I don't think I'm much different than a lot of voters out there.

Obviously someone voted Liberal.

Gee, how about the fact that he couldn't win his own riding. All 3 parties resorted to smear, it is what they do. Politicians lie, cheat and steal, and their only interest is their own.
Tory lost, because of two reasons, his original stance on faith-based education, and his promise to follow Harris' lead when it comes to public services. As for the question about his method of ruining healthcare....2 tier healthcare. Opening a private clinic, will rob the public system of the best doctors and nurses, and the only benefactors will be the staff, and those who can afford front of the line service. We will end up with the American system, where ambulance drivers will be asking at the scene if you are private or public, and passing hospitals get to the public hospital. The P4P plan also has proven a big failure, as the debt load (and liability) falls in the public forum, while the private side splits profits. While McGuinty was inactive, and failed to follow up on his promises, at least he didn't destroy the services we had, nearly bankrupt the province, and sell off the little assets we had left (at a fraction of their value). Our social system, healthcare, policing, and education, will be years recovering from Mike Harris.

While I can't argue with most of what you said, there was one comment that I can't let slide. In the US or at least I know this is true of Florida, a hospital cannot turn away a person who is in dire need of medical help for lack of payment. It's against the law. That's not to say you won't be shipped off to a public facility the moment you become stable but they must, at the very least provide emergency service.

I think it is our electoral system that is completely embarrassing -- never mind the politicians.

22% of the people eligible to vote in the province gave 42% of the total vote to the Liberals who get 67% of the seats in Queen's Park and 100% of the power.

Through the antiquated electoral system we use -- which isn't even useful in a two party electoral sytem -- millions of voters have been effectively disenfranchised.

Two tier health care doesn't have to mean that the "best and the brightest" will only work in private clinics. Who's to say that the government couldn't set the rates the clinic could charge to be the same as OHIP pays for them now. Just because somebody is willing to pay cash NOW instead of waiting to get the service for free doesn't mean that the service would cost more. I am sure that the private clinics would be monitored to make sure the fees charged, and the salaries paid out, were not excessive. The private clinics are meant as a companion product to the existing health care infrastucture. It those who can pay for the same level of care (albeit faster) chose to do that, wouldn't that help to unclog the wait times in the current facilities?

Wow, where were those rose coloured glasses? Yeah, the government is going to promote private healthcare, then put a cap on spending, just like they have when the regulate everything, just like they have when it comes to insurance coverage. Go to a dentist, and tell them you don't have insurance, then after the bill, let on you forgot you were covered. The original bill will be half of what the insured bill is, because they are allowed to jack up their prices. The government turns a blind eye. The Tories promote free enterprise, they aren't going to hinder it there. They don't cap tuition at private schools either, if you have the dough, you can go.
This is a system that enables those who have, to bypass the line, and get service before those who have not. When a cap was placed on OHIP billing, doctors by the hundreds, bailed from the province, to areas that paid better. When full-time jobs were reduced, and lower paid part-time and casual jobs (sans benefits) were put in their place, nurses flocked to the USA like never before. Nursing homes are begging for RNs, why? because the pay their is a fraction of what can be made elsewhere. If you were offered more money, to work in a controlled environment, wouldn't you take it?

I don't have any problem with two tiered health care. Canada already has a tiered health care system, if you consider that the availability of health care in the "have" provinces vs the "have not" provinces. To be able to walk into a clinic any day of the week, most nights until 9 or 10 PM, and be able to get bloodwork and xrays is a perk of living in a big city in Ontario that is not available in small town Nova Scotia or Newfoundland. That is a fact. If somebody wants to open a private facility and let people who can afford it pay cash, by all means. That means less people in the public system and shorter wait times for treatment. I don't see it as buying better treatment, I see it as buying faster treatment, which ultimately pays off be speeding up treatment times and freeing up facilities for everyone else.

The worst thing I hate about Dalton is that he implemented the health tax because they needed the money and then gave themselves a $40,000 pay increase (not the $1 an hour I usually get) and on top of that they gave (I believe it was a Cricket club) 1 million dollars when they asked for I think only $100,000 so excess money sits in their bank account gaining interest because they can't spend it all. It's rediculous!

Why didn't we have a referundum on their pay raise?
