Well THAT was embarrassing!

We were out on a date and came home and dd came down to say goodnight. I was talking to the babysitter and I told DD that it was time for all of us to go to bed. Then she says " Ok mommy, time for you to go upstairs and get nakey so you can go to bed" I thought I had it covered when I chuckled and said " Oh do you think mommy needs a bath before bed?" and she said very emphatically "No, you and daddy need to go get nakey and go to BED!"

Well there was no way out of that one so I just smiled and handed the babysitter the check.

What else could I have done?

Ooh, ooh, I got a good embarassing child moment. When my son was about 3 years old, he was absolutely thrilled if we ever had company who spent the night - didn't matter if it was Grandma & Grandpa or friends from out of town - he just loved people to spend the night. Anyway, I was going out on a first date with this guy that I really liked. He came to pick me up and while we were waiting for the babysitter to get there, my son says with such an air of expectancy, "Are YOU going to spend the night?" Like it was a regular occurrence!

Omigod! That's almost identical to when I met my DH's daughter for the first time!

I went to his place so I could meet her for the first time. Almost as soon as I walked in, he had to leave the room to get something.

She looked up at me and said, "Are you going to spend the night tonight?"

I didn't know whether to laugh, or to run!

She was five, so I cut the kid some slack. Three years later, I'm her step-mother.
