Last month we bought a pair of sandals for DH. They were $70. Now they are on sale for $50, but he has already worn them and they are past the 10 day "price adjustment" policy. Hmm.

I decided to buy another pair for $50 and return the brand new ones with the receipt for the $70 sandals. You can return things for 6 months, so no problem.

I bought the second pair, then went immediately to return them at another location. The lady pulls them out of the box, scowls, and calls a manager! Those shoes had OBVIOUSLY been worn! :furious: The soles looked a little scuffed and there were visible toe imprints - somebody wore them much longer than just trying them on! The manager approved my return, but I was SOOO embarrassed! My receipt was from last month so I am SURE they thought DH had been wearing the sandals for a month and decided he didn't want them anymore. I guess that's what I get for wanting my $20 back!

DH said next time I decide to do that I better check the 2nd pair carefully to make sure they are NEW.

:rotfl: I can't believe they would even put them back on the shelf if they looked worn. Obviously, someone did bring them back after wearing them!!! You should go back in a couple of days and see if they are back on the shelf :rotfl:

Doesnt surprise me any at all! I remember me and my Mom going to a shoe store once and shoes were on the shelf that had obviousy been worn. I was looking for some BASS sandals and they had them, but they were dirty with feet and toe imprints all over them. Way more than just trying them on, I couldnt believe they'd even put those out on the shelf. Donate them or something, but dont expect people to buy them for cryin' out loud. :lmao:

Thats why many shoe stores are not very well lit.

I have a story KINDA like that.

When I was pregnant with son #2 - I was convinced - CONVINCED - he was gonna be a SHE.

I went to Target picked out a car seat from the ones on display - mostly purple with some blues. I grabbed a box & bought it. I got home opened it up - they had changed the fabric pattern - it was really, really all blues. I was upset! I just KNEW I was having a girl and SHE needed a purple car seat.

Went back to Target, threw a FIT! "How can you show items on display, when it ISNT what's in the box?!?!? I want the one on display!!!!' Had to get a manager to approve it, I wasnt allowed to have a box - yada yada yada. Left with my purple car seat and a big smile.

3 days before they induced me - they did an ultrasound. Uh oh. It's a boy. I not only have many pink items - I have a purple car seat with no box. Being 9 months pregnant, feeling feisty, and wanting my way, I thought "Ill just exchange it for that blue one"

I go to Target and Ill be danged if it wasnt that manager I yelled at just a few months earlier who was working the Customer Service Counter. I made very litttle eye contact, and exchanged it for that blue one. She was giving me the evil eye the whole time - I could feel it. :bitelip:

So... kinda the same - the "Im embarrassed" the same. ;)

This was at a department store where they keep the shoes in the back! I had to find a guy to go in the stockroom to get the shoes in the first place - the least he could have done was brought out NEW ones! ;)

I bought a pair of shoes at Nordstrom once. They were way more expensive than what I normally pay for shoes, but I had a specific outfit that I needed them to go with. When I tried them on (at home, on the CARPET) they looked stupid with the outfit so I took them back. The guy looked at me and said "Have these been WORN?" I told him they hadn't, and he took them back. Now I know that Nordstom's policy is to take back shoes NO MATTER WHAT, so I don't know why he bothered to ask and glare at me when I answered. (The sandals for DH aren't from Nordstrom, but when I bought my Crocs the girl said they take back shoes even if they HAVE been worn.)

I'm sorry but I think you were out of line. He wore the shoes, you were past the price adjustment period. You tried a trick and it barely worked.

OP, that's great :rotfl2: Hold on, I'm going go pop some popcorn... :lmao:

If they're going to sell shoes that have clearly been worn, the least they can do is mark them down!

Who would've thought it would be popcorn worthy? But I suppose things could start to get ugly, so might as well be prepared! :thumbsup2

So there you have it! They are $50 now because all the ones left in the store have been worn and returned! :rotfl2:

No no! I meant marked down way more than $20. Like clearance bin!

I am pretty sure it is a health code violation to sell merchandise as new that has been worn. Those shoes should never have been returned to stock. They should have been marked out and disposed of according to the store's policy. When I worked retail it was up to the vendor. Some vendors wanted their damaged merchandise sent back to them, others wanted it destroyed.

Do I find it ironic that they sold me worn shoes? Yes. Will it stop me from buying something on sale and returning it with a full price receipt? No.

Sillyme, pass me the rum for my sno-cone.

JSGirl- You don't seem to understand that YOU are the kind of shopper that makes the stores have to have the stupid return policies to begin with. Once again, I weep for today's youth. :sad2:

As someone who works at a store that has a policy where we do not take back worn and used merchandise I would have done the same thing the sales associtate did. I'm guessing the associate did it because for one your reciept was a month old and the shoes looked worn(obviously your DH had not worn them). You would not believe how many people buy things for a wedding or a night out and come back and want to return it a few days later(reeking of smoke or full of stains no less!). Unfortunately the shoes shouldn't have been sold to you if they had been worn that much and the associate should have checked them in your presence.

I was wondering how long before all of the "goody two SHOES" would come out. *slaps knee* :rotfl2: I kill myself.

Thanks for the laugh. I would have done the same thing and I have worked in retail most of my life.
